  1. i i hear that...i'm 50 on sunday and i'm still keeping up with the 20 somethings....and yeah on the intervention....massachusetts boys !!!
  2. ranger7717 posted a topic in Fishing Tackle
last year i used spinning drop shot hooks without any issues, but a fishing buddy of mine says that he doesn't think they are very good....says they're weak . drop shotting is something i do a small percent of the time, but plan on doing much more....any opinions on the spinshot hooks ?
  3. just got a lucky craft slender on e-bay for 9 dollars( + 3 sh)....had real good time with the shadow rap last season...like 'em both
  4. i hear a lot about california's giants....is that exclusive to certain waters or pretty typical throughout the state?
  5. not sure what this "dreaded winter" comment is about...live in central ma most of my life and this is by far one of the easiest winters we've had in a long time - i work outside most of the time. but anyway, i agree with you about the conn river - great fishing and great scenery. as far as best fishing for a northern boy, i absolutely LOVE lake champlain...so many choices - so many types of fishing
  6. i hear ya...just get a line back in the water and work your magic !! the first fish will make it a little better - who knows...you may catch a pig with that cheap crap !
  7. sorry to hear that ....been there - last summer - about 2500 dollars worth of gear taken out of my truck after a tourny....just about back to fully stocked, but i'll never be the same - feel your pain ...go to walmart, get a couple their best rods and a couple pflueger presidential reels and get back on the water...you'll rebuild, and you'll be alright - peace
  8. knowing the oil is there is comforting - so i can focus on fishing. i've seen where the black max has a plastic gear inside the motor to drive the pump...that's the scary part - if the motor gets hot, that gear can strip easy, and you have to take the motor apart to upgrade with a new gear, which a shop will charge over $1200 for according to forums...what i really was looking for is if anyone here knows about after market electric pumps and their reliability. i'm willing to put one on myself for $300 ,if i can count on it working..to me, the cost is worth it. i'm going to premix until i know - but i have 2 months to get it done..do you just dump the oil into the gas and let it splash around on the way to the lake?
  9. I was thinking of doing something like that.....I'll just have to pay attention to how much gas goes in and do the math on odd amounts...maybe have marks for each gallon....the guy I bought the boat from said the injection always worked good, but I'm scared to rely on it
  10. thanks for the info...looking forward to going there - heard it's great
  11. i was gonna do the labor myself...new to outboards, but i'm pretty handy with tools and i research the hell out of everything...how do you go about your premix - seems like a pain, especially when you're on the fly
  12. hi guys - CD1542....i have a tournament at the end of april on mashpee wakeby and was wondering if i should focus more on large or smallmouth... not trying to steal any secrets, but since you guys are talking jigs, are they good there?
  13. seems like us northern guys don't get much love from dick's - they're just like all the big stores....sit around in meetings deciding what we need by demographics....bass pro isn't much better. they've decided to sell mostly johnny morris and bps more than anything else. you used to be able to get anything you wanted from them years ago. corporate america rules !!
  14. i bought my first full sized bass boat last summer . it's an 82 ranger 375v that is in mint shape with lots of uprades including a full front deck with lockers...it's got an 86 blackmax 135 that has oil injection. i'm little worried about this system because of all the comments i've seen about the oil pump gear stripping because it's made of plastic and it's inside the motor.... the common opinion is to block the system and premix, but i don't really want to premix....to make a long story even longer, i'm thinking of putting an after market electric pump in and so far i've seen one by sei ( marine solutions ?) for 300 dollars....any thoughts?
  15. still looking at my options....next question : i've seen cheap hds7 on e-bay , just the head unit. i assume these would be what they call gen 1....if i buy that along with a new ( or older) structurescan box and transducer , i'm thinking they will all work together, and i will have sidescan?
  16. that's exactly what i'm talking about blck....,.... i really did like it besides that - and true with the limited use, but i new that when i bought it - i probably thinking a light presentation.
  17. I still see nanofil around and I'm wondering if anyone uses it...I tried it when it came out and even though it does cast a mile, it seemed to snap off pretty easy . was that just me...maybe my knot choice or fishing style ?
  18. thank you very much for the help.....one more question ( please ) i'm looking at all the brands out there, and i like the gen 2 touch, but having to buy a side scan transducer is pushing me away because of the added 2 - 300 dollars.... if i find a lss-1 transducer, can i use that on the gen2 touch?
  19. how did you record....with genesis ?
  20. will a lowrance ( or any ) unit with gps show me that i'm on a body of water( and the shape of it ) or does it have to have pond / lake information from a card .... a car gps will show you water as you drive by it
  21. If you want it all (except 360 degrees), and can do the money , you can search around for deals on lowrance 7 gen2 touch. The touch screen model is capable of many future add ons ,like networking - using either ethernet cable or nmea 2000 bus system .. some come without transducers.... be careful.....i've seen packages with navionics and insight for around 700 and up...the thing is worth every penny and way more
  22. I don't believe the 73dv has side imaging.....I just saw during my own research for a unit that you can get the lowrance gen 2- 8 for a decent price....I think i'm leaning that way
  23. i'm a bit unclear about chart cards for fish finders....are all cards compatible with all units (lowrance, hummingbird, raymarine, garmin) ?
  24. i plan on using the striker 7sv on my dash next to a garmin echomap 50s.....side by side they should give you all the hi-tech you need for $900 total, but with your lakes you probably don't even need that much
