  1. Well it's been a long time since I've been here. My little boy turned 3 and is asking me about fishing...so I have to knock the dust off the rods and re-spool the reels. Anyone have any new advice for local fishing down in SE PA or South Jersey? I saw a few names I remember from 3 years ago...anything new happening in our area?
  2. It was 3lbs just about on the button. Vince
  3. This was my fisrt trip out for the season. I took my cuz from Florida who despite having some great bass fishing in his area, has never been freshwater fishing. We were fishing from some of our family's property so it was a really nice day. Nothing like catching bass from a bench with a bathroom and grill 50' away. We got lucky early as we knocked the cobwebs off the gear and each Rob scored a mid 2lb LMB, and I landed my first (almost 2lb) within moments after releasing his. We then had to wait a few hours for the second strike...His was right under 2lb then mine right after was 3lb!! Was a great fight as this was weedy as hell! My new PB and just a great day overall. Rob later got one last decent fish so he could brag all the way home I'm just glad I found a new lake close to home that I can fish whenever. Rob's 1st LMB Vince's 1st LMB Rob's 2nd LMB Vince's PIG!
  4. Just bought a Shimano Sahara at Dicks for $39.99 minus 10% for my Dicks club card and I added a few other things to total $50 and got $10 off with a coupon in my local (PA) fishing guide. I already owned the Sahara 1500 and I love it! Vince
  5. I have not been around much through the winter, as I can't stand the cold, but if you plan a meetup there...I just might have to join in. When were you thinking? Vince
  6. Can thisbe done with spinning gear? Or will I drive myself nuts? Vince
  7. I think my "thank you" can be summed upwith one phrase..... One of the mods said that "they are happy to see people learn a lifetime of fishing in a few months of reading here"...and that is me! I feel like I have learned a lifetime of information in just a few months! I have been able to teach some of the basics to new anglers, and for that I am grateful to the staff and everyone here! Thanks all, Vince
  8. You know...there is the possibility that we can share some secret PA locations I mean the lake sounds pretty big...and well....dangit...just share already!!! Enjoy your new hole! Vince
  9. With my limited glass knowledge....don't you have a decent template already? You have a support system on your jon right? Take that out, spread your fiber, and glass that sucker! You could use a nice thin sheet of luan plywood. It will bend with the curves, has almost no weight, and you can remove it later to put your decking back. Just a thought, I may be wayy off base, as I've never actually glassed anything myself, only watched as friends built panels for my car Vince
  10. I thought anything over 55lb required 2 batts? Does that defeat your goal? Vince
  11. I saw an article somewhere where a guy took an old fiberglass bathtub and strapped a lil 35lb TM and a batt and was fishing from it. I swear it looked like he was using waders. But just the glass tub was enough to float this guy ~200lbs a battery and motor and all his gear. The tub had to weigh about 25lbs at most. Story 2: There is this work crew on the DE river fixing bridges. They have this little runabout w/o a motor. They use a tow line to get from shore to the floating platform. I think it's glass...but I'm not positive. I know I've seen them pull it from the water with one guy. That was about 4' from the water to the bank (sea wall type thing). And I've seen him load all kinds of tools and equipment on it. There are two quick examples of light floating devices that will support weight. Now will either win a race...doubtful...but it's possible.
  12. If you go to the Clorox site they tout how biodegradeable their bleach is. And How safe it is around people. I'm sure with enough of a rinse is would be fine. I also like the oda of running some lake water through it a few times prior to putting fish in it. But I don't own a boat, I've only used it to clean a few fish tanks in my day.
  13. I think it may have something to do with a not so picky woman/man with whom it may or may not be easier to have carnal relations. or promiscuous. Just a thought. Vince
  14. LBh needs to pick up Sony, Panasonic, Cannon as a sponsor! Talk about flooding the site with vids I really need to be comfortable with a product before I would rep it for anyone. Just because someone throws product at you...it's not enough. If they have cruddy products....I'm not going to say I like em. Now if they want to throw products at me to make sure I like them first...then we can talk. On that note...I'd like to test products from; Ford Trucks Tracker bass boats MinnKota I need to find a fav rod builder I need to find a fav reel builder (although I'm liking my Shimano) Reed's Bloody Mary mix (So Tampax will leave me alone) Trojan Condoms (the anti Tampax)
  15. I don't think that moving up in your lince choice is going to help, unless you are using a "springy" mono type line. Then moving to braid or fluro might help with the hookset. I love a nice tight braid for soft worms. Great sensitivity and near instant reaction with hooksets. 8lb should be plenty, unless you are worried about weeds and snags. (I have got my fair share of underwater logs and overhead trees) Vince
  16. vincedia - AIM Feel free to say HI whenever you see me on! Vince
  17. Thanks for those tips. They all sound solid to me. One question tho....how do you know if there are even bass in that small pond? I mean I can spend hours fishing only to find out that it only have cats and bluegill, or nothing at all. I have a small creek fed waterfall near my house. It's only 50 yards across, and 100 yards long. It might be 15' deep at it's deepest. Any suggestions to find out if there are even bass there? Thanks, Vince
  18. How do you keep your plastic? I now have (thanks to the bait monkey) a few dozen plastic bags and they are getting hard to handle. Any suggestions? Will they dry out in hard plastic cases? Thanks, Vince
  19. Thanks man...that would be great! I've seen them at Cabela's but I didn't pay much attention to them. I'm emailing this guy to see if it's still avail and see if it fits in my vehicle. VInce
  20. As I've said in the past I'm a bank fisherman for now. I'm thinking about getting something small for myself. I just have this urge to get into a little deeper water. (deeper than 4-6') I saw this on Craigslist and thought it might be worth it for me. http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/boa/203386777.html Does anyone know the make or have any comments on plastic boats. I really need something that will fit in a SUV and light enough I can launch it with little to no help. I also really want to add a TM and have room for my gear. Does this thing have a solid bottom? Is it stable for a bigger guy? 200+ lbs Thanks all, Vince
  21. I caught two so far...neither were complete or worth a darn. The first I snagged a tree, and as I was trying to get it un-snagged, it got tangled in some line. Attached to the line was a rod tip...only the top half of the rod, the line, and a hook were left. Then when trying last months challenge of deep water cranks, I hooked into something down about 40-50'. It was half a rod again. I got it hooked right in the top eye. It was broken, and I got the top half. I was scared pulling up the second one, I thought it was some type of snake. Vince
  22. Welcome!! I went from knowing nothing about bass to a moderate angler just from this site! Seriously, I have used nothing but the combined knowledge of all of the members and the fine articles in the tips and tricks section! I even got my own personal monkey from bassresource.com! Wait till you meet him, I hear he has a cousin that is looking for work! Enjoy your time here! Read everything you can...it all helps! Vince
  23. [ftp]http://www.amazon.com/Bushnell-Outdoor-Resistant-Digital-Camera/dp/B0007PEOMI/sr=8-13/qid=1157299480/ref=sr_1_13/104-4929917-4243923?ie=UTF8&s=electronics#moreAboutThisProduct[/ftp] This is a decent outdoor camera. I would not make it my main, but it will not die due to wet conditions. I also don't think I would trust it to fall into the water. The SD card is the least likeley of all the storage formats to be destroyed by water. Bushnell also has decent optics, so the picture quality should be decent. Just a suggestion. Vince
  24. I would love to do that...my problem is location. The one lake I get to fish at where there are other people...they all seem to a little on the anxious side to get their own fish. I mostly fish from the bank, and when I end up pulling something in, even a bluegill, I get two or three boats that end up on top of my bank throwing lines at me. I rented a boat to try my challenge in the member challenge game, and my brother-in-law pulled in a bass we, no lie, had 5 boats surrounding us casting within a boats length from us. I had a guy ask me if I got anything as I was packing my gear at the end of one day. I told him I didn't, and asked him if he did...he told me he god about a dozen 1-2lb fish. So I asked him where in the lake he was and what he was using. He told me where he was, but that his lure choice is top secret. Now I know it was just bad luck, and I'm sure that 95% of fishing people are great people. I think that my lake selection is bad. This lake has too much pressure on it. My other locations have little to no people, and the few people that I have talked to have given me the same advice. "You'll never catch anything using plastic, try some live bait!" I get sick of that after a bit. Thanks for the tips. I'm not giving up yet Vince
  25. Wow everyone! This topic got a lot deeper than I ever imagined, and thank you all for that. Besides making me think about guides and their services in different ways, you got me thinking about the different "types" of guides that are out there. Mainly I started thinking if it was really a guide that I was looking for. I think teacher or mentor would be a better word. I don't think I am at the point yet where I need to know everything about the waters that a guide in my area covers. What I am really looking for is the ability to watch and learn from someone more experienced than myself. I would like to see things like cadence and how different lures are suggested to be worked. Those types of things you just can't get from reading a site (even great sites) or watching a video. Sadly video's mostly show anglers reeling in the fish, not how many casts or lure changes it took to get that fish hooked. At this stage in my fishing experience I would hope that my guide or teacher would be fishing along with me, but now I know to make sure that expectation is known up front and to let him know why I want him fishing with me. I would make sure that my guide would be giving me pointers and be willing to put the rod down to show me the technique that was working for him. One last thing about guides suggesting me to use their lures and equipment. I want to learn how to use my equipment and lure selection. I hope that my guide would be able to show me what types of lures I already own work with my rods/reels and fishing conditions instead of suggesting I go and feed the bait monkey. I mean giving me an opportunity to try something new is never a bad thing, and some people may have crud for lure selection, but I would like to think that I have something in my tackle box that is useful. If that is the case...teach me how it's used. If I do have crud for tackle, please explain that to me, and then show me what I should be using. I believe a good guide/teacher should be able to use what is readily available to me, and catch some fish with it. Vince
