  1. i just bought one of those about a week ago for a first time baitcaster. (except i got the rod/reel combo for $100) and i love it, it backlashes alopt less than i expected because of the magnet and friction thing that controls how fast the spool goes. i didnt get the 7.1 tho i got the 5.4 id recomend it to anyone
  2. i just started bass fishing this summer in a part of a lake where its hot shallow and murky with lots of vegitation, but i dont know if its from the changing weather or not but the part of the lake where i fish now is cold clear water. and i dont know how to fish clear cold water except use lighter colors and fish slower. can someone give me some tips on techniques and lures i should use thanks
  3. i dont want to fish in another spot because this one is close by to my house and in peoples backyears that let me fish there but ill try the floatin frogs and worms
  4. Ive been fishing in a part of a lake where its about 2 feet deep with lots of lilly pads and floating patches of grass, the water is murky and usually warm, and the bottom of it has very little structure and it has a thick layer of decomposing old trash, leaves, and mud (by thick i mean a 2+ feet thick). i usually use a fake worm, spinnerbait or topwater. but what else works well in these type of conditions? thanks
  5. Ive been wanting to get a topo map of my lake to find some good drop offs and things to try some deeper water fishing. so i went to my local tackle shop today and asked if they had any maps of lake whitehurst and the guy told me that awhile back the city dredged lake whitehurst, smith, and some other nearby lake. and they got rid of all the structural properties of the lakes so now its all either 1 foot deep very very close to shore where no houses have been built then it quickly drops from 4-8 feet. or its just 6ish feet all the way across where theres houses built. i think theres some parts in the very middle where its about 10 feet at most. (except the part where i fish has never been dredged, which explains why theres about 4 feet of trash and leaves and mud and 2-3 feet of water) anyways, norfolk city put a copyright on the topo maps so none can be sold. and im too broke to get a boat with a fishfinder on it. just thought id tell yall cause i think it sucks
  6. i go every single day, usually about 3 times a day. around 10 in the morning, then if im home doing nothing in the afternoon and then at night.
  7. yallve only caught 2 turtles when i used to fish with worms and a bobber id catch them all the time. and whenever i carp fish turtles mess with me. but i just wish fish were like turtles. the turtles in my lake will swim from across the lake to see whats on the bobber. turtle story: when me and my friend were on his boat we road out past this very big tree that had fallen in the water, probably 100ish feet long and there wasnt room for one more turtle to fit on the tree. then when we went into another part of the lake there was another tree (not quite as long mabey 20 feet shorter) filled with turtles too. atleast their not snappers
  8. if you have a pond/lake with thousands a dense lilypads and thick heavy surface grass and a very shallow bottom with a whole lot of leaves twigs trash mud then thats exactly what i fish. if your bottom is as dirty as mine then you cant use bottom lures because every time theyll get covered in crap. its good to use topwater lures because you can fish the few open spots there are and theyre good in the summer. or set up a texas rigged worm with a heavy sliding weight (3/8+) to get to the bottom. but i recently got onto spinnerbaits and theyve been working for me when you yank out of cover they get alot of strikes.
  9. the whole thing about catfish whiskers being like jellyfish tentacles is BS. but i wouldnt lip a catfish because of their rough mouths. hold it with your finger facing down with the fishes body inbetween your ring and middle finger with those 2 fingers keeping its 2 side fins out and your knuckle against its top fin
  10. dont know the technical names but the front side fins and front top fin. and they hurt alot. i caught one a few weeks back and went to kick it in after it feel off my hook and was flopping on the dock but didnt realize i had flip flops on and it went in the side of my hurt and burned for a while. then a day or 2 later my friend caught on and had it in the air and it swung and stabbed me in the back.
