Drag slipping - C0ncept A
Thanks DVT (Mike right?) That C0ncept A is supposed to have 22lbs drag, and while I'm willing to accept that maybe that's a little bit of fancy marketing in terms of absolute numbers, my reel's drag is actually underperforming my abu silver max (18# drag) and my BPS PQ (Ver 1 -- 10# drag). Here's a little slightly scientific and wildly imprecise experiment. I poured water in a bucket -- the weight is just under 16 pounds. I tied all three reels to the bucket -- (1) C0ncept A (2) Abu Silver Max (3) BPS PQ (Ver 1). I tightened the drag down on all 3 reels. I took the rods out of the equation by just pointing the rod directly at the bucket. My C0ncept A is unable to pull the bucket at all. You can see I am turning the reel handle but the spool is not moving. Both my Abu silver max and my BPS PQ are able to pull the bucket across the floor. Again, I'm not looking to confirm exactly how many pounds of drag my c0ncept A is mustering. Just proving the fact that whatever it's able to generate is less than the other 2 reels. And to recap my above post -- the c0ncept A does have mono backing, and the mono backing is looped through the holes in the spool before tying an arbor knot. There is a piece of tape over the knot. I respooled the c0ncept A super tight prior to this little experiment. So ... the drag on my c0ncept A has to be malfunctioning right?

Drag slipping - C0ncept A
Hey guys, what do you think of this drag slipping issue? I was certainly intrigued by the idea of the bulldog drag. well lo and behold, the drag slips even when it is tightened down as much as possible. I have never opened up the reel. I always loosen the drag when I'm done fishing. 1) Is there 1 single obvious explanation? - I ask this because I am not really inclined/mentally equipped to open the thing up and troubleshoot it myself 2) Would I be better served sending this back to the original company? Or DVT? Thanks in advance.

Dropshot from the bank -- questions (weight, leader)
my pond is just a subdivision pond. bottom composition is mostly pond scum, leaves, some standing vegetation but rarely emergent. no wood. i have just been using a water gremlin dispey swivel sinker with no snagging problems. for some reason i thought i read dropshot required a finesse weight sinker. but this year after ice out it has remained pretty cold. my pond has a shallow perimeter that is maybe 10-20 yards around, and there are definitely no bass to be caught there, so my only success has been trying to cast to the deepest part of the pond. that just wasn't possible with lighter sinkers (even with spinning gear). i am targeting largemouth Crestliner2008. i know spinning might make life easier, but i'm just forcing myself to learn baitcasting, if nothing else so i can teach myself the limits of what can/can't be reasonably done. i am using braid to a 15# fluoro leader, which i know is way more line than the job requires, but it's what i have a spool of and it works.

Dropshot from the bank -- questions (weight, leader)
Thanks BobP. I know you can get away with a lighter DS weight, but what's the benefit? Is it so that you can use a lighter powered rod? I'm just wondering why I can't just use a 3/8oz weight all the time -- not just for powershotting with larger baits, not just on windy days -- but all the time.

Dropshot from the bank -- questions (weight, leader)
Still pretty cold here in Illinois so aside from a couple jig fish (mostly 1/4 oz with a zoom chunk jr, and a couple on a 3/8oz swim jig with a twin tail grub), the rest of my bites have been on a dropshot. I only fish small ponds from the bank. I've been forcing myself to use a baitcaster, regardless of presentation. Because of that, and the fact that it has been windy, I've upgraded my dropshot weight to 3/8 oz, although I'm still using finesse plastics (3" evolve vibra grub and 4" zman ez tube). questions (specifically about dropshotting from the bank) 1) Is there any benefit to using a lighter dropshot weight? the 3/8 oz weight has allowed me to cast farther and even directly into the wind. plus, it certainly makes it easier to feel the bottom and work the slack. 2) Doesn't the leader have to be quite a bit longer when your'e dropshotting from the bank? I mean I read about 4-6" leaders, but that's a completely different game when vertical fishing. from the bank, considering the angle of the line after you've cast it out say 20-30 yards, that 4-6" leader is going to leave your plastic like 1" off the bottom. I randomly chose to tie on a ~ 18" leader and that's been getting me bit when casting out to the center/deepest part of the pond.

Tom H - looks like the bass grow larger in all of your left hands!

BPS PQ
Oops i meant magnetic brakes on 5. Two centrifugal brakes on.

BPS PQ
1/10oz jig. Not sure how heavy the bait is. Z-man FattyZ. I can tell you that this same setup is able to capably cast a 1/16oz freedom tackle interchangeable jig head with a finesse worm rigged up. I have also been using it to cast a dropshot setup with a 3/16 oz sinker. Brakes on 5. Just enough spool tension that the lure barely drops. I'm certainly not suggesting my $140 rod reel combo is BFS capable. But for about as finesse as i desire to go (nothing below 1/16oz) it does the job.

BPS PQ
I have been using the PQ as my first baitcaster for about 6 months. I have it paired with a 14minus1 medium light casting rod. I can cast a 1/10oz ned rig pretty effectively. 10# spiderwire braid. It can be done, but definitely need a medium light rod, and the thinner line helps too. Personally i prefer the mechanics of having my hands closer together, like with a baitcaster, vs using a spinning setup. I realize life would be easier throwing light baits with spinning gear, but I don't enjoy it.

$50 is nuts for the PQ. Is that a new model for 2017? Or just the same model from at least the last several years.- Where are all the Illinois Guys ?

Yeah she's a b*. But the outer 5-10 feet of my local ponds are thawed. Even if it's just a day or two of fishing, I'm going to soak a worm. I just need a hit man!- Where are all the Illinois Guys ?
I'm thinking I'll be able to fish the western suburb ponds by the end of this week. Hell, looks like i can summerize my snow blowers and move them to the back of the garage.- Swimming frog set up
These hooks are for hollow body frogs. If youre looking to rig up a solid body horny toad type frog with a double hook, you need something like a Ribbit Double Take hook.- BPS JM Carbonlite BC reel -- rough spot?
Great information, thanks goose! So this white one is considered the second generation?- BPS JM Carbonlite BC reel -- rough spot?
Does anyone have experience with the current version BPS Johnny Morris Carbonlite baitcast reel? Specifically does it still suffer from the universal rough spot problem? This version - Spring Classic flyer out
