  1. I saw some posts on people building these so I figure I'll ask. Back in the late 80s i had about six seemingly rare crappie type inline spinners. These were one size bigger and had a small weight between the spinner and body. I'm guessing the weight was about 2 Number 2 shot shotgun pellets on the stem , the stem was longer and there were beads on it. I lost all long ago and have been looking for years. Anybody have any idea what it's formal name is and if anybody makes them anymore. I've tried weights but all mess up the spinner or if mounted high up it swims like a stick.. I used to catch 2-3 lb bass all day with those skimming hydrilla and around trees. They were great as everything would hit them, they were my poor mans fish finder. Note the weight was very small, just enough to get a slow jigging action in the grass when you paused. Thanks
  2. Good luck... I won't mess with that contraption ? BTW: Came standard on a Load Rite trailer as far as I know
  3. Now that I've looked it over it's not to bad. This is much different from last boat with self centering rollers and it was only 300 Lbs. It's raining the river is fast, i have a least a week before it's calm enough to mess with ( Upper Potomac, lots of rocks, floating trees, houses, cars, docks, etc). Thanks to all
  4. 17 foot crestliner cx1754 semi v crappie/bass. Merc 50 hp. Come to think of it it does seem easier to steer. I just thought i had gotten used to it. I have all the documents and the safe t steer is in there. I'll look into this week. Thanks Loaded around 1100-1200 lbs.
  5. It's strange. Multiple swinging brackets. Can't lock them down but can limit there range. It will be cooler monday. It looks like i can now ratchet strap the front over. Flip one of the back brackets and remount. Thanks to all.
  6. Yep...it was the deepest I've ever loaded. Just was to lazy to crank that winch. Won't happen again. It's nice to know although i might be the first to rip out the lag bolts I'm not the first that it's happened to. I usually load with half the bunks in the water and half out. More i think about it I'll put side bunks on the front as i use rivers a lot. To bloody hot today to mess with it. Oh to jump off the dock to the ramp at the water line is 4 feet down and a minimum of 3 feet wide... Yep side bunks up front. If i can I'll limit the swing from 90 deg to 30 to 40 degrees.
  7. Just a fyi thing. Found this on my trailer. I'm not messing with this. Can't post the pic it I'll try a message. It's kinda worth a look.
  8. Wow... your exactly right. It's impossible to load this boat at this ramp by yourself manually without swiming in 6 feet of water. I have tall white guides on the sides in the back. It cam in at a weird angle. I pushed it half off then it straightened up and loaded fine. Note at this ramp you have to deep load with a 100 ft bow line. With two people it's easy. But you'll never find anyone there that knows how (all inflatables out of their trunk). Thank you extremely much. Once i get the boat in the air I'll see what i can do to prevent it happening again Front side runners i would guess. Can't get the pic to move with this phone. Thank you...i still feel dumb but not a complete a...... Either that or load shallow and wear swim trunks.

  10. Ok. I figured out a long time ago to have the tail of the outboard in the water when using the Bow mount so you don't spin in circles. Ok fine... that was a 46 lb thrust. I have an 80 lb now. At 80% to 100% power I sit at the console holding the motor centered and the tail in the water ( not the prop) and steering the bow with my foot or other arm. I see people cruising around with the entire motor out of the water and some with part of it in. Now today was the first time I used it. So at high power I raise the motor completely out and it's a little squirrelly at first but settles down. At slow speeds that outboard goes full left or right and you change it your then headed in a whole different direction real fast even at 10% power. what pray tell is this idiot doing wrong????? Should I attend cheap bass boat driving school?
  11. Hey last year i was skunked badly. Does two about 8 inch yellow perch count?
  12. I looked around and didn't see any thing about this. I have a loadright trailer with bunk boards. they are semi floating as the front can pivot 90 deg. Somehow beyond my knowledge and comprehension that's what one did coming home. Ripped the bolts completely out of the rear. The front mount was turn 90 deg inward so the boat was on the edge of the board. The back was on the trailer frame ( no no holes, didn't dent or even scuff the paint) . It's sitting on both boards now but one is out of wack in alignment. I'lll cut some old 2X4's for a frame and jack it up. Probably put in some extra bolts to prevent that extreme movement. just a weird fyi????
  13. It worked pretty darn good. It got me out and back in headwinds about 5.5 -6 miles total at 4- 5mph out and 3-2mph in. Took about 30 min to get a decent hang of it. Oh....NEVER USE THE OLD AUTOPILOT... that thing is wacky. I can see why people don't like the steering. It's much better than my cable steer bow mount was, but horrible compared to tiller steer. I just took it out found a likely spot and dropped anchor. Caught a few Yellow perch. The rope and handle made life much easier, I can see why people didn't like it that much.
  14. Maaaaaannnnnn I was there late today and only got two small ones. Over under the bridge to the left in one of the coves in some grass Me and blackhills are getting to be on no speaking terms. On the way back my trailer broke. I know what happened but there is no way it could happen unless messed with. Bunk board flipped 90 deg and broke off in the back mount. Oh, I didn't go all they way down to the end, battery power kinda low. I think I fished that spot for a hour, but it was around 4-5 pm. Congrats.
  15. My thoughts exactly. I'll risk $200 and a little bit of work now verses $1,600-4,000 and a long backorder wait. My 46 lb cable motor just flat out wasn't even a close fit for that boat. It goes out today after i remove 100 pounds of gas.
  16. I didn't know that either. I guess it's time to jack it up after a trip to see if there is any play in them. I do check the temperature on the road every 2 hours. I see way way to many trailers sitting on the side with just a spindle on the ground. So far everything has been cool to the touch. I rarely go more than 3 hours away.
  17. Yeah sir, you are right. I got it mounted so that if it rips out the boat will be torn apart. 4, 5/16 bolts with 2" washers on the bottom of the plywood/aluminum top.. Anyway, yeah it's a little cumbersome to pull up and stow, i put on a small rope and handle which helps. The steering is slow but for my use i can live with that easy. It has Autopilot which i hope works. I can kinda use it now but have the 60 Amp breaker ordered, be here in about 5 days. I know I'll want to open it up when i take it out. Besides i need a few days to recover, I'm not 20 anymore. If it actually works in water it's a good learning motor at a decent price. Thanks for everyones opinion it all helped greatly.
  18. Just a FYI from my screw up. 1) Make sure it will fit over your windscreen and still go over the sides. 2) Make sure it has enough space up front to handle a trolling motor bottom and prop. I have to drop down the windscreen for it to work on the road in bad weather otherwise it tends to rip the side lanyard straps off. I've resewed them on 4-5 times now.
  19. I had a 1969 Wards 13' row boat and trailer. I had to repack the bearings after every third trip you could hear the scraping in the wheel. Thankfully they never gave out but it was a pain. I always changed the outer bearings as they were very pitted. My new boat has bearing buddies on it. I looked at the instructions that came with the boat and they seem very involved, it doesn't seem like they just change the outer caps. Anyway I love these things 10 years and no issues. Just 2 shots of grease a year. The trailer came with them installed. They are beyond my skill and tools so I take it to a pro.
  20. I'm trying to find a place that sells rubber grommets, rubber plugs, misc boat hardware, high amperage VDC plugs and sockets and other little stuff. There was one in Baltimore but closed 20 years ago and I can't remember the name. Specifically I'm looking to change my 12V trolling motor socket and plug to a 24 V 60 Amp one if possible. I need strain relief at the least. If there is such a place I can find something that will work.
  21. This is a 2005 Model, waiting on the circuit breaker to arrive. A place in MN repairs that particular model of foot pedal or did. The motor also has Auto Pilot which would be cool if it works. Should be fun finding out if and what it will do. This forum is a real benefit to newbies like myself, thanks
  22. I noticed the speed of the steering. Yep it's slow but fine for my needs. I sent out a request to minn kota for the manual and the circuit breaker size. I have it strapped down to the boat and hope to have it mounted and wired this week. My arms are a bit told old and short for mounting. Also I'm putting in a backer plate as that motor is very heavy 80 lb thrust. It's a good starter motor i hope.
  23. For better or worse it's mine now. Worked out a respectable deal for everyone. Checked everything and things seem cool. Shaft length is perfect and mounting doesn't seem to be that bad. The overall cost was worth the risk in this area at least. Man thanks a lot for the info it really saved my bacon. The guy had it on a 14' jon boat and said it was too much for his needs. If I get a consistent year out of it I'll be happy.
