  1. I've always heard bass feed more with their latteral line and 30x stronger sense of smell at night. Dark colors by far have been more productive for me and everyone I've fished with. black blades, black buzzbaits, black torpedo's,black poppers, and black jitterbugs would be the most productive in my time of fishing. The 10" worms gets alot of play out here in Cali but I've yet to put time in on it.
  2. or you could go to Chevy's and say it's your b-day ;D
  3. seriously though why don't you look into hats...either a Giligan style hat, long billed, or straw hat....you don't have to rock the sombrero that was just a joke...my lady has a skin disease from excessive dry skin and she brings out her big Jackie O hat and it works great.
  4. sounds like a big sombrero would do the trick ;D or try a long billed hat that might help....I know I need to figure somethin' out....my g/f has been callin' me her teenage mutant ninja turtle the last couple of years!
  5. sure Jed's fish happened awhile ago and is probably old news to most of you, but I'd think more of you guys would be standing up for this guy considering he was misled into thinking he didn't have a chance...I mean chances are the fish that would beat Perry's record would be caught during the spawn... did the rulemakers not think the fish would lose fluids/eggs over the course of waiting for the DFG in ANY case? sorry if I'm reitterating here A good friend of mine growing up went on a fishing trip to the Potholes Reservoir in Washington around the early 90's and stuck a 11# 13 ounce after loading the boat on the trailer! The state record is/was 11.3. He couldn't officially weigh it cause it was a sunday and no one was returning calls. 45 minutes later the fish started to drop considerable weight and he had to work the next day and still had a 5 hour drive. He decided to keep it on ice and when he got home it was 11.1 or 11.2 on the same scale which he later checked out to be true but not "certified". He kept it for a mount and nothing was made of the situation..its now on his wall with a frown how many cases are there like this one must wonder? certified starts to take on new meaning..more like de-certified Sometimes politics are too much of a headache when eye witness' have nothing to gain. Considering the fish didn't drop 5# when the DFG got there I think its fair to give someone the benefit of the doubt in this scenario especially since him and his crew have been so persistant! how about releasing the facts and voting on it is there a show of hands here?
  6. so you went trolling at the mall ay? ;D ....there's an old saying never bring fresh fish to the ocean ;D j/k
  7. my girl likes to go fishing when its warm out....its actually pretty sexy seeing your lady fish in a bikini ofcourse that's all lost when she says I have to pee or I'm too hot. LMAO its funny I tend to use those same excuses after being in the mall after an hour. ;D
  8. Jigs Tackle is a popular store near the "alleged" site and they have no record of at WRB caught. being that the dude was japanese you know there'd already be 100 pics taken and floating around by now ;D ofcourse I can say this being japanese
  9. socially fishing can take a toll on you as you don't have alot of interaction and you are often concentrating pretty hard...I've noticed this since I like to fish more by myself(due to wanting to stay out LONG hours despite the action) what I do now is take the radio out and listen to talk radio in one ear as it helps me focus on other things and allows me to work slower and more methodically. my advice is to invite a girl every now and then and let her hold your rod ;D :-* ;D 8-) mom will always worry about her son
  10. thanks for sharing bro...always artificial unless its pig.... I did just watch Larry Dahlberg last night fish some real leaches for some MONSTER Golden Dorado in Argentina. Man that dude can catch! I think he just might find the loch-ness
  11. nice fish bizzle....ds'n a leach ay? nice. I think you should have checked that first fish into rehab however
  12. LBH there really isn't too much down in the creek channel as this is a man made res. Erosion has placed some nice rocks, willow trees, and slack water in 20fow and less. Unfortunetley I am using a Garmin 160c right now and it only puts out 150W RMS and 1200W P2P. http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:3nysEOSOYdcJ:www.garmin.com/products/ff160c/+Garmin+160c&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us&client=firefox-a I am looking at getting a Lowrance X 95 since I've realized this finder might be limiting some important details. However it reads humps, big rocks, etc in 60-80 ft. From what I've noticed fish will suspend during mid-day around 30-40 ft in 50fow and are tough to catch. Finesse applications have been the only ticket here. Most guys that fish this res with the same dshot, dhead, jigs so the fish have seen quite a bit of the same look. I've been trying to give different looks by slow rollin,yo-yo'n,and spoon'n and have had little success. That's why I posted here to see your guys' take on Creek Channels and the importance. Rolo thanks for the response...you are correct in that there isn't much weed growth here. The channel ledge really does not carve into 20fow maybe around 40-60 at the most shallow. It runs from N to S for the most part right through the center of the res not deviating from the middle much. There are roadbeds I've been keying in on but the coves they start out in are only 15ft now. So most of the activity is around main lake points and bluff walls where the fish are suspending. here's link to the res if anyone is interested....its a great all around fishery but its just hard to get a pattern on the bass even more so with the smallies (and the LR smallie is 5.5) http://www.ebparks.org/parks/delval.htm if anything maybe someone can post an example of how they pattern fish on draw down reservoirs. My understanding is they are more difficult
  13. some good responses here guys! LBH I hear what your saying and have always tried to pay attention to the creek channel when looking at my topo maps. However the creek channel I am referring to runs at an average of 80-140ft. I've only seen bass as deep as 60' on the graph and haven't caught anything deeper than 45'. I am targeting bigger bass so I am looking for that prime real estate(bluff walls, rock to mud bottoms,main/secondary points). Problem is most of the prime real estate I used to fish is now exposed! So the emphasis is on the draw down I believe and how the fish would relate to the creek channel over these tougher times when cover is more scarce. maybe someone could give an example of another draw down rez that runs deep that they have fished before. this would be a good article to write up
  14. water clarity is clear 10-12ft.. .structure and cover are great but I think the main reason for it being a tough fishery is the water draw down in the fall. Over a two month period they drain over 25ft of shoreline! seems so unstable for the fish to have to relocate so drastically. Lake record is around 18 lbs and only a few years ago as well as other teen bass have been caught.
  15. in a deep resevoir where the channel can run 80-130 ft? how do bass relate to such a deep channel?
  16. definitely the red-eye-jedi as SK has really been pimpin' that lure out....both Shaw and KVD cannot talk enough 'bout it and its been in both of their fishing shows.
  17. deepsessions replied to Catt's topic in Fishing Tackle
thanks Adam gonna try out some different screw lock sinkers
  18. funny I picked up about 15 of them last year when Sportmart was liquidating them for around $2! They are the newer ones but really bring back some memories of when I was younger. They have stood the test of time they might not have all the color selections that the Lucky Crafts have but they are proven and are a 1/3 of the price. add some suspend dots/strips to the lower bill if you want to get it to dive a little faster/deeper
  19. jigs seem to be working at the Classic and worked at the Delta for me
  20. deepsessions replied to Catt's topic in Fishing Tackle
haven't caught a fish on one yet....then again I haven't devoted alot of time
  21. freshwater- catching yellow perch off the dock at my local lake in grade school only to reel in and get smashed by the big brute largies underneath us...we actually hooked a few 4's and 5's over time once figuring out not to bring in the perch too fast and use bigger hooks. Runner up would be catching a 4lb cat last year on a trap. After getting him in he had t-rigged 6" worm in him also with a 3/0 Gama. saltwater- would have to be the classic "seagull mischief" I used to throw buzz bombs alot for Salmon in the Puget Sound. One time I casted out and I thought to myself man that's a hell of a cast its still in the air ;D well needless to say a seagull caught it or was snagged and was doin' figure 8's 50 yards out. I ended up cutting the line after a few hard jerks.
  22. I think the 30 is what I'm after...casting distance is important to me for the more clear lakes around here. balance is important so we'll see how she fits. I wish there was a store around here I could take my rod to believe me. As for multi-species fishing can't say I'd use a 40 on anything aside from maybe a steelhead and haven't done that in ages. boy do I miss the good fight of a steelie!
  23. some funny bizness goin' on here..... I've been using 6lb G-string on my drop shot setup and haven't looked back...a guy at the tackle store recommended it for clear water....we tested it against regular 8lb Stren Blue and 8lb P line and it was stronger than both! I highly recommend it for finesse presentations. I'm also a fan of Vanish Transition btw I've always been a fan of G-strings just never knew how much ;D
