  1. Poe's the most overrated crankbait I ever brought sooo much of! Good bait but even David Fritts himself said he would go through dozens of packs at the factory before he'd fine one that ran true. I had the same problem most of mine were not true. try explaining that to a tackle shop when you're shaking all the boxes trying to see if the eye is bent or not
  2. Look at the bank!! If it looks good, rocks, lay downs, stumps then that's a good sign of whats below. once you establish a pattern it'll be easier to pull out a map and look for other similiar spots on the lake. I've never been one who could look at a map and pick a spot before ever fishing the lake. What looks good on paper could be a red clay bank on the lake or some guys cow pasture ;D
  3. It's all in perception! One mans catch is another mans disappointment. If I'm fishing for fun as long as I never feel like I'm spinning my wheels it's a good day. If I'm on a new lake 5 or 6 good fish Practicing for a tourney at least 5 solid fish
  4. There are NO good fishing shows anymore but the ones I can tolerate.... Hank Parker (Sometimes) Bassmaster CAN"T STAND (Most times) Bassmaster Anything Roland Martin In Fisherman...unless yer from Minn aa sotaa eh! Remember when Bassmaster had actual fishing instead of talking from a desk???
  5. The Ol timer comment was just making the point that Larry Nixon and Rick Clunn were winning $$ without it! I know times change but you can stay low tech and catch fish. The "I am man hear me roar" comment about fish caught is just stupid! If you wanted to get into it you'd have to compare time on water, I DON'T live in Texas, and the size of our..."boats" :-? I'd love to see all your FLW/Bassmaster trophies please invite me over sometime!
  6. Rapala DT's best crankbait ever! Go Fritts
  7. Excalibur has the same color on it's baits (pearl shad). For the price I'll check it out though!
  8. Lead it's cheaper and tungsten is NOT that much smaller. The cheapest and most expendable thing in my tackle is the sinkers why should I change that?? I guess those Ol timers didn't know what they were doing after all
  9. Black Red or black blue I have the pumpkin colors but never do any good with them. I had some white ones one time and would've sworn I'd kill the fish..might of caught one total??
  10. I've done it for years and live by it!! When it's cloudy and especially rainy a spinnerbait will slay the fish, you can catch them on top waters but you won't catch as many as fast! Now the best time for a top water is bright blue bird sky. I have my best luck with this formula. It's all because the fish's relation to cover. I've even talked to Zell Rowland and he has the same philosophy.
  11. MALTESE FALCON... I'm glad you're having luck with your Abu Garcia's. I have a lot of the C3 4600's from the early 90's and love them. But when I went to buy some new ones last year a Abu dealer showed me how the quality had drastically went down. I sent one of mine to be fixed and was charged $20 my buddy was charged $60 and it was a new reel and only used once!! I've disowned them and went to Shimano Cardiff cast like a wet dream!!
  12. I started fishing tourneys with my dad at 15yrs old we had good success and I wanted to turn pro at 18! Well poor people can't make it on the Bassmaster circuit and me and my dad started spinning our wheels on the water and bumping heads so I quit fishing completely :'( I maybe fished 5 times in the next 5yrs as well as getting married and having a baby.A couple years ago the bug was to much to handle and me and a buddy started fishing again after catching up on the latest trends I went out and started slaying them! I even zeroed my buddy on his home lake from the back of the boat. I had all these new ideas and Zen thoughts about bass and started to realize how small minded I was as a kid about everything. Well the reason I'm not holding up a 100G check is mostly because my buddy sold his boat and ended our tourney dreams.I still fish just not as much and at 30 I hope one day I to can afford a boat with 2 kids and a stay at home wife!! : The point yes a break is needed to get your head back in the game. Some of us can take longer then others!!
  13. Ditto, Quality spots will always produce!! Usually though quality spots come with quality company! It's hard to hide good spots in lakes anymore. I use to wade a lot in rivers growing and we found this back water area where no one fished man was it loaded with bass and snakes!! As far as dragging your boat to get there, in my poor experiences every time I really did some off the wall stuff to get to a "secret" spot it never paid off ie...purposely half sunk a boat to get under the only bridge in a flooded flat, ran full speed over a sand bar flat to get up the "secret" part of the river, almost tearing the prop off on stumps to get up the "secret" part of the river, and many more!!
  14. Loyal Companies: 1)Bill Lewis "Traps" I just can't catch fish on any other rattler! 2)Berkly Big Game line pound for pound the best for the money 3)VMC Vanadium hooks 4)Rapala DT's are the best 5)Shimano Cardiff reels are awsome! 6)Xcalibur Baits IMO smokes Lucky Craft!! 7) Slug-o still love'm 8)I'm sure there's more?? Companies I have a problem with: 1)Gamakatsu I had some issue with their worm hooks but they're slowly winning me back 2)Zoom again use to love'm but now another over priced plastic! 3)Abu Garcia my original loyal company from day #1. till I found out the new 4600's were plastic junk made to sell fast and cheap at Wal-mart 4)I'm sure there's more??
  15. Started off with Stanley in the early 90's. Then went with the Hart Sniper's (very progressive for the time). Now I make my own using thin small wire and heavy heads, makes for great vibration. If I tear it up only cost me $2. My buddy uses War Eagles and I've just bought a couple Screamin Eagles they have the same idea I do...small bait heavy head!!
  16. They're probably good. I've been using VMC Vanadium hooks for years and love them. I've never seen Fritts' name on something he didn't truely like!
  17. On of the biggest fish I ever hooked was from a pond that looked like split pea soup.I worked my spook in the shallow cove and BLAM! he shot straight up like a rocket with the bait laying sideways in his mouth,I set the hook in mid air.he fell back down and fought for a couple sec's and was loose.Worse place to hook a fish, sideways in the mouth!
  18. Yeah and they've been saying that since I was alittle boy : I don't think that fish he's holding is even real!? Field and Stream had an article these guys have entered several record bass close to 20lbs....all from this one lake??????? :-? Wow we've found heaven,it's alittle lake in the middle of no where..RIGHT!
  19. I caught a yellow eagle claw rod out of Belews Lake NC when I was a tenager
  20. Growing up in NC there was a shallow river behing my house I caught the larger smallies on 1/4oz. rattle traps and the smaller ones on grubs and craws!Any color will be just bounce it off the rocks.
