  1. I need a little help. I bought a new boat last fall and it has a little quirk every time I recover it. I can never load it all the way to the bow roller without winching the last 18" and it always still lacks a couple inches from touching it. The boat is completely on the bunks. Ive tried backing in farther which just runs the bow under the roller. If I dont back the trailer in as far, I just have to winch more and I can tell its straining the strap. I haven't seen any "no power loading" signs but I dont think I should have to turn 4500 rpms to get it to the roller either. Is there anything I can add or try to recover the boat correctly? I've gotten used to it and still get in and out quickly but it is kind of an unneeded inconvenience.

  3. I liked the answers. I just felt stupid for asking.
  4. Did you have the vent open on your new gas tank?
  5. Thanks for the quick replies. So it doesn't matter if I use the trail lock as long as I use a transom saver? Does having the motor tilted up more take away from the effectiveness of a transom saver?
  6. I have a 88 16 ft Bomber fiberglass boat with a 90 hp Johnson. My neighbor recommends I use a transom saver. My motor has a "trail lock" bracket to lock the motor in almost full tilt position. The manual states to not trailer motor in a tilted position unless the "trail lock" is engaged. In addition, it recommends to secure the gearcase to the transom or trailer. Do I trim down on the transom saver like the other boats I see? Or should I use both the "trail lock" and run the transom saver at almost a 45 deg angle from the lower unit to the trailer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  7. What kind of gas tank do you have and has gas sat in the tank for an extended period of time? I had the same issue with a 9.9 Mecrury. I cleaned the carb a couple different times and it would run fine until trash clogged it up again, usually after 5-10 minutes of running. The fuel filter will stop the larger trash, but won't catch the small stuff that will clog your jets. I ended up buying a new gas tank and primer bulb with hoses and never had another problem.
  8. I will make sure to install one when I hook the new motor up. Thanks for all your help!
  9. I just looked at the wires. It looks like 6 ga. I couldn't get much off the plug as the numbers were worn off. It is a 3 prong push and turn model. Two red wires and a black wire runnning into the back of the receptacle. I guess this looks like I need a new plug and receptacle too? Since the old one was a 12/24v motor could I just not hook up one of the red wires and it still work?
  10. Thanks for the good input, please keep it coming. I was thinking about buying the 55 lb 12 volt motor. The boat is a 88 Bomber Crappiemate. I am worried putting a 70lbs trust on a 20+ year old boat may not be the best investment. However, the boat is in decent shape and has been in the family since new. I just don't think I would get full use out of the 70 lbs. I will go check the plug and wires again and let you know how it looks.
  11. That is the way I was leaning. Will I have to buy a new plug and receptacle too? If the new charger says its recovery time is 10 hours, will it take 20 hours if batteries are wired parallel?
  12. I am in the market for a new trolling motor. My boat currently has a 12/24 30lbs Johnson that makes too much noise. I would like to upgrade to a MK Edge 55lbs 12v or 70lbs 24v motor. The price difference is about $200 including the free one bank charger that comes with the 55lb. I already have two trolling motor batteries that I bought before the season started. If I go with the 55lb 12 V and run the batteries parallel (or just keep one charged for a spare) would I need to buy a new plug and receptacle and run new wires from the batteries to the front of the boat? My plug now is a three prong Marinco. Would the 70lb 24V make that much of a difference if I just fish a couple hours after work and on the weekends?
  13. Im looking for a good jig rod in the $150 dollar range. I was thinking about a Crucial CRC-X66MH, i use 1/4 3/8 and 1/2 oz jigs, anyone have any suggestions or use this rod for jig techniques?
  14. Does anyone use a portable fish finder? I usually fish out of a jon boat and sometimes I go to places where I have to rent a boat. Can I get some input on what you guys use/recommend?
  15. My girlfriend bought me some wobblehead lures and worms and i didnt think much of them, but she SWORE they looked cool in the video at BPS. So i tied one up for her to use a few times this year while i fished with a worm/jig/etc. I cast out the first time to see what they looked like and they did look like a snake swimming back towards the boat. Anyways, she ended up catching a few decent size 2-4lbs on them during the summer. Now all she wants to use is a wobblehead. Its not necessary my go to bait, but she can fish with those easier than teaching her to fish a worm or anything else, and she caught some decent fish on them. I would use them more often, but i dont have the confidence with them that i have using a jig or a worm.
