I owned a 2000 Champion 193 DCX Elite with a 200 Mercury EFI. I had that boat for about 10 years and never had an issue with it. Boat was garage kept, waxed a couple times a year, and wiped down after each trip. Boat looked showroom clean when I sold it. Those old Mountain Home Champs were special!!

You'll have no problems with sensitivity pitching with that 735

735 is a very good rod for pitching and flipping, with that being said I probably wouldn't recommend it up to 2 oz jigs. I would say up to 1 oz is definitely in it's wheelhouse. Anything heavier than that I would look into am 805 flip punch or a 736. I also love my 735 for frogs and Carolina rigging.

I used to use a lot of Big Game, I feel like maybe 5-7 years ago they switched the formula and I don't like it as much. Seems to have a lot of memory. I picked up a spool of Izorline XXX last year and love it. Its not as cheap as Big Game, but its tough with much less memory.

If you liked the rod exchange it. If the rod broke after the first couple of times using it, something happened to the rod to damage it.

Frog rod...7'3" or so heavy power Crankbait rod...7' medium power/moderate action jig rod...7' to 7'6" medium heavy power finesse rod...I prefer spinng rods, but a 7' medium to medium light

I'm a Dobyn's guy and I would use the 733 with braid for the swim jig, the 734 for the spinnerbait and chatterbait. I guess there are other factors like cover, and weight of spinnerbait and swim jig. I fish fairly heavy grass with the swim jig and use a 733 with braid. I throw 1/2 oz spinnerbaits on the 734. The 734 is an extremely versatile rod which is why I own 3, and should have 6!!!

Perfect action for jerkbaits, poppers and squarebills.

Simm's raingear is expensive, but in my opinion well worth it. Light enough to wear in summer and not sweat, yet can be layered to winter. Good warranty too.

I switched over to all Dobyns and never looked back. Mostly Champions with a few DX's mixed in. In all honesty if you like your Savvy I'd highly recommend the Fury. For a $109 its a lot of rod. My co-worker didn't want to swing for the Champions so he bought a bunch of Furys, 705cb, 733c, 734c, 735c and a 703sf. I've fished with all of his rods and can honestly say the Fury is a dam nice rod. Plus the no questions asked warranty is second to none.

I had a pile of them, fished them hard for years. With that being said not even close to the sub $100 club of present day, not as refined. Keep them cleaned and lubed and you'll get a lot of service out of them.

If your fishing smallmouths with the spinnerbait I like them post spawn through fall. Not that you can't catch prespawn fish but I think theres better options. I love throwing spinnerbaits in the wind, wind blown shorelines, flats, breaks. I tend to keep the spiinerbait high in the watercolumn, usually a foot below the surface. When they bite they try to rip the rod out of your hands. I like 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz baits, Zoom Fat Albert grub trailer and try to match the blades to the weather condition. If its sunny I like double chrome willows, if its cloudy double painted blades. Can't go wrong with chart/white skirts. Dobyns 734 rod with a Daiwa 7:1:1 reel and 15 mono or flouro

versatile bait that I've gotten away from. Used to C-rig it, drop shot it, and fish it on a shakey head.

I love the plopper 90, but I loose a lot of fish on it. Started throwing it on a Dobyns Champion 734 with braid, I've backed off to a 705cb with mono and its gotten better.

How small of kids are you talking? I started my kids fishing local ponds for bluegills. As they progressed they learned to fish a senko, topwater, and frog. Visual strikes for obvious reasons can get kids hooked. My usual fishing partner has an 11 year old that can tear them up on a jerkbait!!!

Door County/Sturgeon Bay is an unbelievable fishery. It can be good from the opening day until ice up, but the best fishing is from mid-May until 4th of July. Fish can be caught in all phases during this time, and caught shallow. Swimming a grub or tube, and a jerkbait can be great early in the season. As the water warms spinnerbaits, topwater and dropshot become major players. Water is gin clear with visibility of 20' being common. In the spring the southern bays like Little Sturgeon, Rileys and Sand will be a lot warmer depending on wind direction than the northern bays and the main bay.

Lake Columbia died about 5 years ago with no plans to restock...used to be a great lake.
