Carrot Stick Actions
Quote from RayRe "I'm confused by the action and power listings. Delo's has all the powers listed as Fast. And the actions as MH and Parabolic. How can you have a Parabolic Fast Action rod?" Ya that is confusing. Fast and parabolic are action ratings, and MH is a power rating.( At least this is what I thought. ) On the e21 web site the action and power ratings seem to be different than Delo's http://www.e21fishing.com/catalog.php

Carrot Stick LTX first impressions.
I have been able to fish with the spinning model a few times. I've been using it as a search bait type rod. Lipless cranks, and shallow-medium divers mostly. Not ideal but I also used it as a drop-shot rod fishing for crappie. It is a very light rod(lightest rod I've used to date). As far as sensitivity goes it is very sensitive, closest rod I own and use to compare it with is a Avid 7' MH/Fast. It has plenty of power to bring in a 3# LM bass(unfortunately biggest caught on this rod so far). I guess grip material is personal preference. The foam grip doesn't seem to lose grip when wet to me. One draw back in my eyes is as LBH says, the guides do seem to be a little flimsy. The rod I got seems to be a little tip weighted too(not bad, just not perfect). But e21's web site says the rod can be balanced by removing the butt cap and adding weight. I'm going to see if I can find some weights that will work or see if switching the reels will help balance it out. Right now I have a Symetre 2500FI on. As of right now I think it is a great rod for price. BR

Calling Dodgeguy!
"The basic conclusion of this test would suggest that LINE VISIBILITY is an important factor in bass fishing."-RW I have to agree. I haven't done any scientific experiments but I have noticed a difference in the number of strikes and bass caught this year. This year I started trying floro and copolymer leaders with my braid reels. My success rate has increased. While my fishing buddies that use straight braid have stayed the same. So far after a year of using a leader with my braid I have nothing negative to say about it. Well it could be the line or all the advice I get from this forum ;D BR Will

Hi, Thanks for the info. I assume this is a Tidal area of the river. Morattico is about half way between Tappahannock and the bay(16-18 miles from the bay). Thanks again for the info. BR Will

VA. Guys/Gals need info/insight
Hi, I'm from NC, I'm going to visit wife's family over Thanksgiving. I will be staying in Morattico Va. on the Rappahannok River. I do have access to a boat(maybe). I've never been there before and wife's family doesn't fish so I'm looking to you all for some help. Is there Bass in this area? If not, what can I fish for and fish with? I assume it will be cold there around this time of the year. What are my chances of catching anything in this area? I'm not asking for any secrets here , just some help for an out of towner. BR Will

To C-Rig or not?
Thanks Guys, Just wanted to see what other's thoughts were on this. The bass(LM) seem to be bedding along a flat in front of a grass line. The water in the bedding area is about 4-6 ft deep. There is deep water close(5-10 ft) to one end of the flat. Its alittle farther away on the other end. I think I'll use a C-Rig or a jig and work the deeper water first. Then use T-Rig or Shakey head on the bedding area.

To C-Rig or not?
I was wondering if a C-rig would be too noisy/flashy for bedding bass? OR Should I use my lizards/salamanders with a T-rig or split shot?

crappie lures
Small jigs and beetle spins get my vote. Has anyone used mini sweet beavers? They are just over an inch long. I'm going to try them this year. Just wonder if anyone else has used them.

Question about Jon boat Moding/Building
I would like to build an Electric only Jon/bass boat. My question is, Which of these boats would be better for me to use for my first project boat? 1) 16ft Lowe Riveted Alum. Jon boat w/ new magic tilt trailer 2) 14.5ft (unsure of the maker) Fiberglass Jon/bass boat (very old). w/ original trailer (Both hulls would have to be repaired in spots.) I can see pros and cons with either boat. Just wanted to see what you experienced builders thought. I would have to power it with the 3 TMs that I have now(I want to get better/newer motors later). I have 2 40# 12v Minn Kota foot controlled and 1 36# 12v Minn Kota hand controlled. Both these boats would be free, so price is not a factor. Just let me know if you need to know anything else. Thanks, BR

Is there such a thing as too much fishing?
I agree with RW and others. If you say "Nothing bad" and this is true then BRAVO! If fishing is your only vice then don't worry. Your mom just worries about her kid as all parents do. If this comes up again just remember, keep your cool explain the facts as you have explained to us. Communication is the key. Let her know how you feel and respect her opinion. You started a great hobby way earlier than than I did. You have alot of time to fish ahead of you. Keep at it and this will work itself out. IMHO, keep your cool when trying to talk with worried parents. If they are not there with you then they worry. It's just their nature BR

Big Industry News!!!
Interesting(#1)...That would explain what I have seen at my local WalMart. They have down sized the tackle/hunting section from around 4 1/2 aisles to 2 aisles and 1/2 of one aisle is all clearance stuff. They only have a few rods and reels left and most are on clearance. They have no guns and very little hunting supplies(clothes, calls, ammo, etc) BaitMonkey wonders why this is happening... :-[ (Bass Pro is so far away) :'( As for #2 and #3 I can only see things getting better

Shoreline Fishermen, Storing your baits?
Here's a pic of my bank beater set-up. The utility boxes are homemade. I made them out of Data cassette cases. I've made 7-8 of them. I keep all my boxes and tools in a large butt pack. My scale, water bottle and rod holder clip on the outside. Works pretty good for me.

Tube Rigging
This doesn't answer Papa_Tom's question(sorry) But... From:portageriverangler I use a jig head with a fiber weed guard for my tubes. To rig it, I push the weed guard forward and insert the guard first. When it hits the front of the hollow chamber I push it thru the tube, Then I grab the guard and pull it out. Next I push the eyelet thur the tube. Then I set the hook where I want it and "tune" the weed guard back to where it should sit. just my .02, hope this was helpful

Storing rods inside car
I have a '99 4runner. I'm looking for a better way to carry my rods too. I like ghoti's idea. But what I have been doing is this, from the back(tailgate) put them in tip first. I have a short bungie cord(maybe 6-7 in.) that goes around the handles and hooks to the clothes hanger hook in the back. For the front I have a soft velcro strap that I use to secure the rod tips to the handle above the door( the back door handle gives more support than all the way in the front at the very end of the rods). This works for now, but I am always looking for new ideas.

Looking for new reel...
Thanks guys, The 7' MH/fast rod and Symetre sounds like a good set up. I know its not a perfect frog/fliping set up, but I think it will work for now. It will be the best outfit I have for this purpose. I'm still learning so the rods I have are multi-purpose. Maybe one day I'll have a rod for every presentation. I'll keep my fingers crossed

Bass Clubs in NC
What/Where are some of the clubs in Raleigh? I live in Raleigh and I am always looking for people to fish and learn from. I've only been bass fishing for about 5 months. Do you think any of the clubs you have fished with would be for me?

Looking for new reel...

Looking for new reel...
I'm looking for a spinning reel to put on my 7' MH/fast All Star Rod. I want to use this as my frog/flipping rod. High speed would be nice and I would like a front drag. Unsure about the rest. I guess that is why I'm asking for help. Price is also a concern. Under $60 would be great, under $100 might be workable. I had been looking at the Penn Captiva(CV4000). It's under $60 but the reviews I have read are 50/50(some love it, some hate it) I haven't been fishing that long and haven't used that many reels. Just wanted to ask you guys/gals for suggestions/opinions. BR

What knot to use to tie braid to mono/floro?
Double Uni knot here (or Uni to Uni). This is the only line to line knot I have used so far. I have had no problems with it yet. I guess when I do I'll start experimenting with some new knots. When I tie it, I double the braid end and wrap the braid 3-4 more times than I wrap the mono. Here are some knot tying websites. http://www.animatedknots.com http://www.netknots.com

Fishin show or 30min infomercial?
Roland has two products that he always gets in there. The sunscreen and his rain gear. He will come up with any reason to put on his rain gear. 75* and sunny, not a cloud in the sky. "Son, you don't need rain to put on this great jacket. It keeps your collar down when drivin" I stopped watching Roland because of all his product plugging.

Old baitcaster, Need help
Thanks, I don't fish with anyone that uses a BC so there is no one to slap my thumb went it does the wrong thing. Its all trial and error for me. I'll try not holding my thumb on the spool so long I think that might get me in the right direction. I'll get that thumb whiped into shape before spring. ;D BR

Old baitcaster, Need help
I have a Abu Garcia 5500c(I think pre '79 model?) It was my grandpa's so I have no manual. I set the spool control for the practice plug I'm using. But my overhead cast goes straight to the ground. Is the brake system/setup doing this?(does this reel have a brake) Or am I doing this with my BC noobness? My sidearm cast isn't too bad, accuracy is getting better. My back yard isn't very long so I haven't worked on my distance yet.
