Leader, or not?
Thanks guys, If there is no down side, I'll try using a leader. Most of my presentations are very slow this time of year. So I guess it can only help

Leader, or not?
Thanks, That knot tying site is great, got it bookmarked The fishing glue...where can you get it. Don't think I've ever seen it in the store. Will Krazy Glue work?

Leader, or not?
This year I would like to use more jerkbaits, swimbaits, and crankbaits. I have never used a leader before. Most of the places I fish are stained to almost clear(nothing clear though). I use 8-10lb braided line on my spinning outfits (I have mono on my baitcasting outfit, but I'm not ready to take it out on the water yet :-[) What I would like to know is; Is using a leader helpful when fishing these types of baits? Should I use a leader or is it only necessary for clear water? Can I tie a mono leader to braided main line? What knot should I use to tie a leader to a braided main line? BR

TM/Batt., How long can I stay out?
Thanks, I'm not planing on running at full power the whole time I'm out. I will mostly be trolling at low speed. I was just looking for a round about figure, so I can head back to the car before I kill my batt. btw the TM is going on a personal pontoon, so at most it will be pushing/pulling 350lbs(and wind) Thanks again, BR I hate to start a new topic with one reply to this one. I guess someone will let me know if I should. ;D My batt. charger has a float/maintenance mode. After charging should I leave my batt. on the charger in this mode when not in use? BR

TM/Batt., How long can I stay out?
I know I've seen the formula but I can't seem to find it again. I want to know how long my TM batt. will keep me out on the water. I have a 36lb TM that draws 32 amps at full speed. My batt. is a deep cycle with 115 amp hr rating. If someone could let me know how to figure this out it would be great. BR

hand carved cranks ????
I've only made a couple of lures, but I used a rasp on the one I made with a scale pattern. It was a very course rasp. I lined it up with the lure and rolled it on the rasp's teeth with a good amount of pressure. After sanding and painting the pattern left by the teeth was faint, but I liked the way these little diamond shaped dimples caught the light in the clear coat. I don't know if this looks like scales to bass, but it has a nice look to me. BR

Feisty little fish!
I've been busy latey and haven't had a chance to put a line in the water. But today my outings led me pass the pond. So I threw a rod in the car and head out. The shad swimbaits got me nothing, but I saw a swirl in the water so I tied on a senko and tossed it out there. Bam! right off a hit. Not a big fish but this little guy put up the fight of his life. This little fish fought harder lb for lb than any bass I have ever caught. He went left and right, darting back and forth. He jumped twice with his head almost a foot out of the water. He was only about 8"-10" long and under a pound, but he had the soul of a 10lber. ;D Its nice when your're only catching dinks and they fight so hard. The little guys don't get their pictures put up very often, But they do make for a good time. To the fiesty little fish! BR

Farm Ponds done for the season?
Here in NC the pond bass are still hitting my lures. Although it is getting slower and slower. I went down to the pond for about 30 mins the other day and caught a 2lber and had a few nibbles. I'm going back again tomorrow. I'll see what happens. Weather here has been wierd. One day we'll have lows in the 20's and highs in the 50's, next day it will be lows in the 50's highs in the 70's. I'll stop for the season when I see Ice.....or maybe I'll just go out all winter for the peace and quiet ;D

Hydrilla!!! EECK!
Thanks for the tips guys. I'm going back out there this weekend. I'll try flippin some senkos on to the holes and edges. I'll try jiggin some more too. Oh man! This means I get to take out the BC setup for the first time. Ive been practicing my cast in the yard and flippin into buckets in my garage. I'll see if all this practicing pays off. Hopfully it pays out in hawgs. ;D BR

Hydrilla!!! EECK!
Hi, I found a nice size pond near my house. The only problem is a 10-20 ft ring of hydrilla all the way around the pond. I'm having a hard time catching anything or even getting a bite. I know there are bass in there. I can see little bass swiming back and forth though the fish paths. There are minnows galore and one (I guess) carp the size of my leg. I also saw two blue herons, so there is a great ecosystem here. I was using mostly a topwater(pop-r and jitterbug) and a crawbug(1/8oz jig hook). I'm wondering what is the best way to fish this type of pond.(I do have to fish from the bank) Any suggestions about lures or how to fish them would be a big help. I've never fished in hydrilla like this. There's a hawg in there with my name on it. I just got to figure out how to get him. ;D BR

What did you learn this year?
Well I just started bass fishing this year. Thanks to this forum I've learned alot. Haven't got to try everything I wanted to this year, but there are a few things I've gotten pretty good at. I've learn to use Topwaters and Jigs well with good results. My casting is also getting better. Next year I'll try and work on my baitcasting (just fixed up an old Abu Garcia Ambassaduer 5500 C) I would also like to work on my crankbait and jerkbait skills too. Well...May the skills of 2006 let everyone fish better and learn more in 2007 ;D BR

No more Strike King Rattling Pro Model Jigs???
I am not 100% positive(maybe 93.7% ), but I think I saw these jigs at Dick's today. They came in a black skirt and brown skirt. If they are stopping production of these jigs they won't be at my area Dick's for long....... ......Baitmonkey put those car keys down!!! BR

Honeyhole.....helping or hurting?
I like the fish fry idea ;D. I don't think the parasites (if any) will live long in the fryer. If I find a pond that is poor I will move them there. I hate to see them die and get covered in dirt. I don't want to mess up the HH. But is it to risky to move 1 or 2 hawgs in if I catch any over 7 or 8lbs? BR

Honeyhole.....helping or hurting?
Hi, My honeyhole is a great spot. Many dinkers, many 5lb'ers and a 7-9 lb'ers have been caught(bass). A few bream as well. The question is, There are a few old farm ponds in my area that are about to be developed.(strip malls and such) If I catch big bass in these farm ponds sould I move them to the honeyhole or leave them to die at the hands of the urban sprall? The HH is a oval about 130-150yds long by 50-70yds wide and maybe 15-20ft deep around the dam. Could it support more fish? Would I be hurting it by adding more fish? Would I bring disease and parasite? Would I need to add baitfish? HELP! These ponds will be drained and filled in. :'( I have seen it happen to four good ponds in my area. I don't know what to do about these great fishing holes. Taxes and such (not that I know, but can only guess) are running the farmers and the long time residents away. Some of the ponds my dad use to take me to are gone. I have seen many big bass, crappie, and bream pulled from these ponds. So many questions but I'll leave it at this and go with the responses. Any ideas or suggestions would help....or just tell me it's what happens(hope that's not it) :-[ BR

jitterbugs
I had posted this in another jitterbug thread. If you want to look at more jitterbug info ------->http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1161204727 Two things that I forgot to add last time; First, after landing on the water I let it sit there for a few seconds. Sometimes I'll get a strike right after it lands. Second, sometimes(if slow and steady isn't working) I'll stop it for a few seconds around structure during my retrive. BR

Will people ever learn ???
I agree as well. I am a newbe to the sport of bass fishing. So I never expected to reel in anything close to 10lbs. For those that saw my post; My BP!!!, I did just that! But I will never know how close to 10lbs it was. So the Weight calculator says 9.2, I couldn't weight it myself so I don't know. Well after that experience I now see why a scale is just as important as any other piece of tackle. (That is unless you fish by yourself, don't care, or will never tell anyone what you have done. But hey it is a sport so we do tell. ;D ) After my experience and reading your posts, the next payday rolled around and, hey! hey! new scales! I can't wait to weight that hawg next time I catch her

Cold Weather Gear Thread Again
I have done a good bit of hiking in cold weather. One thing I learned was to keep my boot laces snug but not tight. The same goes with the cuffs on my jacket or shirt. When you have your gear on too tight around your ankles or wrists you decrease your circulation. Its not much but your hands and feet get cold a whole lot faster. Just my 2 cents (No need to have $190 boots and cold feet )

Motor that has been sitting, What to do?
Ok, I'm sending emails to all the service centers in my area. No use turning a potentialy cheap motor into an expensive anchor. ;D Thanks

Motor that has been sitting, What to do?
Thanks for all the info. I'm going to try to get over to my father-in-laws house this weekend. Then I can find out more about the motor. I'll probably put it in the garage untill I can get new parts and a few days off. If you know of any Johnson parts dealers in NC or any online that you trust let me know. Thanks again

Motor that has been sitting, What to do?
Yay! First post, So I must say thank you all for helping me get back in to something I haven't done in years. ;D My father-in-law is giving me his old jon boat. The motor(35 Johnson) has been sitting in the back yard around 3 years with no use. Is it scrap or can I bring it back to life. I haven't tried to start it yet. I wanted to know what i should do before I try. New oil, gas, maybe plugs. I've worked on truck motors but never a marine motor. Not sure where to start. :-/
