  1. This is interesting. I have never tried pitching/flipping a lipless crank, but it makes total sense. Although I'm sure you have to clean the trebles off a lot. I'm def. gonna try this.
  2. Now that is something I've never heard of.
  3. I love tinkering with stuff. Take it apart, mess with it, put it back together. It helps me understand how stuff works.
  4. I'm curious what you guys have confidence in that most people don't. For example, I love swimming a football jig with a skirted dt grub. I love it and it works, but most people believe you can only fish a football head on the bottom around rocks. So what do you do that works despite conventional bass fishing wisdom? Is there a winter technique that you use all year? Or a lure that is intended for a specific application but you use it for something else?
  5. Those look great! I took the liberty of color correcting your photo for you (see attachment). The round abu reels are so upgradeable! It's amazing how much you can improve the performance and they are really fun to work with. I have a 5601 with the anti backlash gizmo. I removed the antibacklash, upgraded the bearings, upgraded the line guide, new handle, drag upgrade and bearing supported cog wheel. That thing LAUNCHES baits! I am using it for deep diving cranks. But I wish it was a little lighter so I could use it for smaller crankbaits.
  6. Very cool!
  7. If my jig is picking up a lot of grass, weeds, dead leaves, etc. I'll switch to the t-rig.
  8. I did this a couple weeks ago: Treble through the nail out through the fingertip. Coulda been much worse.
  9. I am looking for a camera to take on the boat, use at the beach/pool with the kids, etc. There are quite a few around $100. Anyone use any of these or have any other recommendations? Vivitar ViviCam 8400 Vivitar ViviCam 5399 Olympus Stylus Water 550WP A while back someone had posted some images he took with a digital point and shoot that were awesome, but I can't find the post...
  10. There are some great photos in this thread! I dont' really have a home lake, so here are some fishy places I've been: Lake George: Schroon River: Whaley Lake (NY):
  11. Any small brush should be fine. I would recommend starting with a small amount of paint, you can always add more. I would also experiment with how far your holding the brush from the lead when you are tapping it. And try to get the head as hot as possible without burning the paint.
  12. GREAT idea! I would have never thought to do that.
  13. I have an abu garcia revo stx that I am looking to trade and would be interested in a custom built cranking rod. If anyone is interested please p.m. me.
  14. I have been fishing this little pond near me often for over a year and only ever caught dinks. I've caught literally hundreds of small fish there. Well, I finally set the hook on something BIG (for me at least), reel it in pick it up and it's by far the biggest fish I've caught. I could have put my fist in it's mouth. I put it on the scale and it flops right off back into the lake!! LOL! No weight measurement, no length measurement, no photos. But I'm focused on the positive, it was a blast to catch it and now I know there is at least 1 beast in there! And now I have to catch it again. Moral of the story: buy a scale with a clip, not a hook!!
  15. X2 Ted's work is killer!
  16. The other day I was swimmin' a jig in clear water and saw a small bass swim up and bump my jig and swim off. I saw it, but couldn't feel anything and the line didn't even move. Makes me wonder how many bites I'm getting that go undetected.
  17. I am still learning to detect the jig bite. Actually, it's more about learning what everything else feels like - weeds, trees, rocks, etc. Then when you feel something else - SET THE HOOK! I think jig fishing really requires time and practice which is why not everyone does it, but those that do are rewarded for it. One thing I've found is don't be afraid to try different things - pop it, hop it, swim it, etc.
  18. When do you prefer a suspending crank over floating?
  19. Word! Great bait.
  20. From early spring to late fall.
  21. That is a work of art! Honestly, it's one of the nicest looking custom rods I've seen. Do you sell them?
