  1. Matt, how could you tell? I'm just curious. And for the record: Catch it, Photograph it, weight it, let it go. It's not that complicated!
  2. Another vote for VMC.
  3. I would recomend buying unpainted lead jig heads of different styles and shapes. You can paint them yourself, add weedguards or coil keepers, add skirts, etc.
  4. Do a search, there is a lot of info on these and there is a recent post with a link to an article on different ways to rig it. You can fish it weightless, with a weighted swimbait hook, on a jig head, t-rig, c-rig, etc.
  5. No, I've never seen those before. They are pretty pricey! I really like the skirted treble hook, I might make some of those myself.
  6. Beautiful work!
  7. That looks great! Is it a photo finish? Did you use an illustration instead of an actual photo?
  8. I just wanted to bump this thread and see if anyone has found a good source for unpainted swimbaits. I'd really like to find a good source. I ordered a couple from ebay for cheap and they suck (not surprising, but worth a shot). So... anyone?
  9. No, I did it with a paint brush and powder paint. You just tap the paintbrush over the hot jig. I got a tutorial from someone on the t.u. board. If anyone wants it just pm me your email address. Yes. I order them unpainted with the weedguards unattached. I powder paint them, bake them, add eyes, add the weedguards, then devcon them.
  10. Allen - Your right, those are the cheap swivels, but I haven't had any problems with them. Do they tend to break? Or do the better swivels improve performance? What swivels do you recommend? The spros? I will trade you one of my rattletraps for whatever you make - soft plastics, right? Send me a pm if your interested. 8-) Sorry for the hijack :-[
  11. Those look great! I especially like the small green and gold one.
  12. I purchase unpainted jigs and spinnerbaits from a guy I met on another message board. He has great prices and quality and service too. He gave me the tutorial for doing the multiple color powder paints. If you want his contact info just pm me. I would not recommend buying the cheap spinnerbaits and trying to repaint them because they have a protective coating on them that you would have to try to remove. You are much better off purchasing unpainted ones, painting them yourself and adding the hardware. It is very rewarding to make your own baits and catch fish with them. Good luck!
  13. Like these? I did those with powder paint and using a paintbrush to tap the paint on.
  14. Looks great! I've had success with some of the "bleeding tubes" with 1 color on the outside and red on the inside. Your combo looks great for a baitfish imitation.
  15. Wow!! Very impressive.
  16. Here is a video The action looks nice and pretty good price too. I'll have to pick one up this winter - Bad monkey!
  17. 4Bizz - Can you inform the guys how you can identify a cheap knock off? It might help save some forum members from wasting their money.
  18. You are right, powder painting a jig with the weedguard in is impossible. You should ask if they will sell the jigs to you with the weedguards separately so you can paint them yourself and then put the weedguards in afterwards. It's one less thing for them to do so they might not mind. For topcoat I use Devcon 2 Ton. It has it's pros and cons. I recently purchased some of the dick nite's top coat after reading a lot of good reviews. I have not tested it enough to give a fair review but it appears to be a great product. (PM me for a discount code on the Dick Nites). Let us know how you make out with the jigs.
  19. A bunch of the photo hosting sites (i.e. kodakgallery.com) allow you to make calendars with your own photos. You could make your '09 calendar with your favorite fishing photos. If you have a fishing photo from every month in '08 you could have the photo match the page it's on.
  20. I don't know about the movie, but that trailer made me want to go fishing SO bad!!
  21. I don't have any to sell yet. If all goes well I'll have a batch to sell this winter and I'll let you know.
  22. True, but once your addicted you will be ordering a lot of supplies. If you thought the bait monkey was bad wait till you meet the tackle monkey! LOL
  23. Thanks for all the kind words, I appreciate it! I have only made a few so far, so I don't have any to sell. I am hoping to test these, make any necessary corrections and produce a larger batch to sell over the winter. I will be sure to let you all know when that happens.
  24. Nice job on those jigs! I have never seen zip ties used to hold the skirt on, how do they hold up?
