  1. Ima suspending vibration trap is good!
  2. Jerkbaits and topwater in the mornings...
  3. Just hoping to find a way to make more without using up 3-4 replacement skirts!
  4. There is no lure that is the best in every all conditions. Otherwise it is the only lure people would use. Every lure works somewhat in any conditions, some being more adaptable than others. Weightless worms and jerkbaits work well in a lot of situations. I think this guy your talking to is missing the mark.
  5. I made this out of 4 standard skirts. I’m guessing around 200 strands total. Looks like a sea urchin underwater. I’m looking forward to trying it out. Anyone else tried a jig like this?
  6. At TW you can get 5-packs if boss banded replacement skirts for $3.49. It seems like that is a better deal per strand than the buying skirt tabs...
  7. (Or @J.Vincent) Do you know how many strands are in a tab? Or how many tabs are needed for a standard thickness skirt?
  8. It’s a very nice lure and has great hardware. It has a loud single knocking sound as you walk it. If you want that type of sound I recommend it.
  9. I’m looking for extra thick silicone jig skirts, meaning skirts with around 150 strands or more rather than 50. Does anyone know where to gets skirts like this? If not, anyone know where to get the best deal on silicone skirting material to tie my own?
  10. Where would I get this?
  11. I’m looking for a bulky plastic to put on a jig that is not overly long. I like the thick body of a missle baits d-bomb but wish it was a bit bigger overall. Any suggestions?
  12. I’m by no means an expert but weightless senko style worms are good year around and in all conditions. When the visibility is reduced (morning, wind, rain, muddy water, etc) I prefer faster moving baits though.
  13. I like longer handles for increased leverage. I made a custom extension for one of my rods. I’m right handed and use a left hand retrieve baitcaster.
  14. In my expirience fishing glide baits is less about the lure but how you fish it. I can never get bites on straight retrieves. All my bites have come on quick turns of the handle to get it to glide and “walk” back and forth. Kind of like a slow motion jerkbait. The savage gear shine glide is excellent at this style of retrieve, it is more stable than most glide baits.
  15. Nope, always catch and release to catch them again, especially if they are big.
  16. We should call it a PLOPBAIT!!! Just kidding. We do need a more dignified way of talking about it that a “whopper plopper style lure”...I feel like an idiot any time I mention it to someone who doesn’t know about it. Even though it is a propbait it is so different I think it should be distinguished. How about “single-bladed propbait” or a “chopper style lure” or a “chopbait”?
  17. Fish a topwater walker with sharp jerks an a brief pause between each. Rather than a steady walking retrieve it’s a walk-pause-walk-pause... the walks have got to be real abrupt.
  18. I made this using the body of a missle baits d-bomb and a Yum Super speed craw. I like the action of the speed craws arms but the bulk of the d-bomb body. I used mend it and a spring from a pen to screw the two halves together. Anyone know of something similar I could purchase? I like the vibrating claws rather than the flapping style but want a big, bulky body too.
  19. Cutting a treble is going to hurt your hookup ratio. I would start with other approaches first. Try EWG treble hooks that have the hook points tipped slightly in and a shorter shank. You can also downsize the hooks.
  20. Unfortunately a lot of the places I fish have too much grass for me to fish Texas rigs as my primary lure. Weightless worms are my go to.
  21. Jigs work for people all the time all over the country. I understand it seems like you will miss fish, I felt that way too, but they have been proven to work very well.
  22. Start and stop retrieves with crankbaits can work very well. Often you need some change to trigger the strike. The movement after the pause often does that.
