Newb with electronics questions
First off good luck on the boat. Battery: best for the $$ would be a big yellow Everstart Maxx 29 from walmart, they are about $65. If it will last all day?... well that depends on how much you use it. I hear guys say "my battery last all day". well they might not be running alot of extras or be on their TM alot. But with what your saying one battery should be good. If its not, then buy another. One thing. maintain that battery good. as soon as you come back from fishing put it on charge. On wireing you might get interferance or you might not. I have run TM and other stuff off of one battery and had no interferance. in other boats there might be. Use good wire for the TM. 6ga no smaller than 8ga. as for where to put the DF. in the middle some where would be good. so you can see it when running the outboard and then turn it around so you can see it when using the bow TM. best would be to get another unit so one can be in the back and the other on the TM up front. That TM is a good one, but If you can afford to get one that is bigger get it. Buy the biggest one you can afford. It always better to have to much power than not enough

Small 10-12' boat questions
That is a cool looking little boat. But yes the seats are offly close together. For that same amount of $$ even a lot less you can find yourself a used 12 foot semi V with trailer and outboard. My first boat was a 12 foot starcraft with a 6hp Johnson, 28lb Minkota and trailer. I paid like $400 ( back in 1989). wish I still had it. just looking in my Local pennysaver there is one like my old one for $700 and a 14footer for $900. so look around you might be able to find a little more boat for the same $$

How many lbs of trolling motor do I need?
I would say it will be just fine. I have a 15 foot Starcraft V hull and it has a 9.9 merc on it. 55# bow Minkota and a 50# transom mount. When my dad uses it he hates the bow mount so he only uses the transom mount and it pushes that boat nice. Use the advice , buy the biggest TM you can afford. just cause you have a 55# tm doesn't mean you have to use it at 100%. Bigger is better

Motorguide Tour Digital Problem
If its new. take it back and get a replacement. And I would not run it on 12 volts. these new one are made to run on 24volts if its a 24 volt motor, not like the old ones that were 12/24 volt motor. Next are you sure its a 74# 24 volt Tour series Digital motor? I checked Motorguide they do not make a 74# tour series. They make a 54# tour and its a 12 volt TM. the 24 volt TM are either 70# or 82# then you move up to the 105# 36 volt. I have the 105# Tour Digital series TM, starting its 3 season and no problems at all.

Ugly Stick- I just don't get it.
laugh all you want guys. but I fish one all the time. At tournaments guys will say" you really fish with that?" then I start yo catch fish on it. I have caught to many fish to count on it over the 15 years I have had it. I love to fish torpedo's, I use them alot, and have over 100 of them. and I use a 7' med heavy Ugly. I have tried many other rods, very expensive rods and I can not get the right action out of the torpedo that I like with them. My Torpedo rig. this is all I use it for. has it written on it. 7' m/h ugly stick shimano 100mg chronarch 20lb trilene XL or XT I know what your saying, big $$ reel ,cheep rod. I would not use any other rod for this type of topwater bait. I think its the give of the rod and strech of the line, but I rearly lose fish. and when a nice bass hits that torp. that little bit of give help keep them hooked up. There is some good back bone in my Ugly, but the tip is very flexable. Now i fish all kind of other topwater. but I only fish topredos on that set-up and no other baits.

New prop? hydrofoil?
that sound right for speed. My father-in-law has a 2005 175 tracker with a 25hp 2 stoke merc and it run in the low 20's with 2 guys over 225 in it. so the speed you say sounds right. as for the hydrofoils. they will help with planing. I have them on my small boat and it will not plane at all with out them. they are cheep. you can buy a pair of dolefinns for about $30. they will not help with high speed, but with you getting the boat on plane. I would recomend them.

Does anyone fish in more than one club?
It depends on the club. I know in our club's by-law. now this is my club. We are a BASS federation club. It states, in my clubs by-laws, that you can not be a member of a nother BASS federation club. But you can belong to other bass tournament circuts, which most of our members do. we have this stated, becasue we want our addendance to be high at all out tournaments and meetings. we fish 14 tournaments a year , about one every two weeks once the season starts. so there isn't much time to fish other clubs. that being said a lot of our members fish other Buddy tournament circuts. In my area we have a large Buddy circut and we try to schedule our tournaments around their since members fish both. But with a club that only fishes once a month. I would look into fishing something else too. We have the other way to. we have lost members because they said we "fish to much", but that is why we joined this club to fish, and we like to fish as much as we can.

Boat/Trailer Xfer from MD to PA Question
As long as they are registered it is easy. If you belong to AAA just take it there and they will do it very fast and easy. If your not, check your local notary and they can do it. Like I said as long as you have the resignations from MD its easy to xfer them. Its when you don't have the registrations it gets hard. if your buying from a dealer see if they can do it. I live in PA. My father does too and he bought a boat in MD last year and the dealer did the xfer for him.

Boat motor
A 6hp will push it better than a TM, but you still will be pushing the boat around, will not get up on plane. I had a 12 foot semi v starcraft and it had a 6hp johnson on it. ran good, but then I got a 9.9merc. the motor was only abot 20lbs more and it ran that boat great. was way better than haveing the 6hp. Like was said just cause you have the bigger motor you do not have to run it wide open. but it is nice to have that extra power there incase you need it, ex our running a storm. If your looking for small motors check out http://www.smalloutboards.com/

Zebra mussels breaking my line....what line to use
I fish Erie a lot, ultra clear, lots a zebras and big mean smallies. I'll be honest, I do break a few off, very few, when dragging tubes because of zebras. I use 8-10lb P-line Floroclear and Trilene XL. Yo-zuri Hybrid and ultra soft would also be an option. what you need to do is check you line often. Feel the smallest flaw, strip some off and retie. I have tried 6lb and even 4 lb up there and they don't see, to work well. cut too easy. I would say braid might be OK, but if its clear water and you use a leader. Well, you might as well use that line that the leader is for the main line. since zebras are on the bottom, the line near the lure is what is in contact with them.

Not impressed with TD-Z
right on Avid and also The_Natural, has it right on the $$. I have a few shimano's and TD and my TD veinto's have a better feel than My chronarch 100MG's. Don't get me wrong my MG's are great, and I will not be getting rid of them, but the new TD veinto's are so flawless. there is no play at all. and no sound

Braided Line with Fluorocarbon leader
yep, what Burley said That is what i use all the time. I use a leader with my braid 100% of the time. I don't use 100% fluro, I use the poly lines I use spider wire, original & stealth, with yozuri hybrid & P-line Floroclear leaders

couple questions about fixing a few things on my t
if you don't want to drill many more holes in your boat. they sell a plastic plate, BPS & Cabela's, that you put on your transom and you mount your transducers to it. So you only have to drill 2 holes in your boat and you can drill as many holes in the plate as you want. Cabela's Transducer Mounting Plates part # 01-0102 $12.99 ~ $31.99

mounting transducer and running wires on powerdriv
On my old power drive I had the wire taped to the bottom of the shaft, by the motor, and at the top, by the head. and let the wire run past the mount. you have to keep makeing sure the wire stays tight. once it starts to have some slack it will bow out when running and if your not careful you prop will hit it an cut it. I had this happen a few times. I just used electric, black tape, and checked it offten and replaced the tape every few trips.

SW Pennsylvania Thread
NH_BASS I would stay off the rivers right now. I was up in that area today and the Allegheny is still up a little, very very fast and muddy. Not very safe right now. If your willing to brave the weather this weeknd, since winter is coming back, check out Crooked Creek. I was up ther sunday, in the rain, . Holiday Park had a tournament, lots of fish caught. i would go there, infact I am going there on friday. If you check it out, use red rat-l-traps and green T-rigged tubes around trees. Like I said I'll be there friday. Hey here is a picture of my boat and truck, if you see me stop and say hi. I also sent you some more directions to ramps. HPBB PS Sea Nymph Boat, with a 75 Suzuki outboard, Grey Chevy Tahoe

SW Pennsylvania Thread
NH_BASS that section is great for SM, eyes, and big Muskies. Tube work best for SM, there are lots of weed beds up there. As for Holiday Park. we don't have any opening left for riders this year, and we stop takeing new members first of may. I know you have a boat, but we fish all unlimited HP water and only use the 9.9hp boats as a last resort. If you are interested keep in touch and in 2008 there might be some openings. If any openings open up before may I'll let you know.

Towing with a 2002 Ford Ranger XLT Questions
You should have no problems towing that boat. Its small enough. yes do not tow in OD even on flat ground. you will use a bit more gas, but save the trans. You can pull that with the bumper, no problem. I bet your boat wieghs less than what you est. it. I have a 14 startcraft deep v(full floor and decks), 9.9(15) merc, trailer, 2 batteries and 2 TM,, with gas and gear its still under 1000lbs

ideas for trailer walkway
If you find some old use aluminum running boards from a pickup. take off the sides, drill a few holes in them and U-bolt them to the trailer. I did this on my 14footer, works great. they are about 7 inches wide and have antiskid on them already. Their aluminum, so they will not rot like wood. went to a U-pull-it junk yard and paid $5 for them.

What's with people Today?
People are just ignorant, they see it on TV and they think they own the water and nobody else can use it. Sorry you had to experience it, but I happens all the time. I was fishing a point and there was some brush sitting about 30 feet off the bank. I was sitting about 30-40 feet out from that. So there is about 70 feet between me and the shore. This guy pulls up and starts to fish the point. staying close to the bank, and moves right over the brush I am fishing. I politely said" your boat is sitting right where I am casting" he ignored me. Well, when that 10 inch jointed Swim Wiz, I use for muskie fishing landed just off his bow, he noticed me and left, but he did tell me I was #1. I smiled and said "Thanks, I like being #1"

97 Johnson Ficht trim/tilt ???
sounds like a short. Now its time to do that fun task of checking all your wires and connections to make sure something isn't shorting the sysytem. and make sure they are hooked to the right spot. I wouls start with the trim wires since it happens when its being used. also check the switch, maybe it has short.

Towing with a 2002 Ford Ranger XLT Questions
You can find the trailer plug at any auto store they make them for all trucks and SUV. The ranger is very popular so it shouldn't be hard to find. Yes, get a frame mounted hitch. If your boat is small you can get away with using the bumper .You can get a hitch for just over $100 and put it on yourself of got to Uhaul and for under $200 they can do it, also they have the light plugs too. If its an auto trans, tow in 3rd gear only, and look at getting an aux trans cooler ( Under $50, and easy to install) Like what was said before, I hope your not planning on pulling a large boat with it. I had a 1994 Ranger Extended cab with a 3.0L V6 5 speed 4x4. Only had it one summer, could not pull my 17'6" boat up hills. It pulled my 14 footer good. My S-10 with a 2.5L 4cyl 5 speed pulled alot better than it. I have freinds with the 4.0L V6 and they pull good.

rod length
Use what ever rod feels good to you, If a 7 footer feels ok then use it. If nothing over 6 feel ok then stay to 6 feet and under. It all is what feels good to you, and if you can use it. There is no size rod for short people or tall people. I'm 5'10" and I like using 7" to 8' rods. Its just what I like. I used to have a lot of rods in the 6 to 6'6" range, then started using 7 footers. I now only have two rod out of about 15 that are under 7 foot. Most guys use a 7' Or 7'6" flippin stick. I prefer to use a 7'10" or 8 footer, just what I like.

Engine won't start
yes start with the battery. Have it checked. I have had batteries that said they where at full charge and they just would not take a charge. Infact had that this year. My TM batteries (3 of them about 4 years old)would not take any more charge the charger said they were full. well, first trip out and I was out of power in less than an hour. Got home plugged the charger in. Said it was charging. 10 minutes later said they where at full charge. Needless to say I just picked up 3 new batteries yesterday. Start there. Then look at the motor. Did you winterize it?

SW Pennsylvania Thread
NH_BASS. Yes you can change a 9.9 to a 15, but now in Pa that isn't tha much of a deal since most state parkes are 20hp now, and most guys run 25hp with 20 stickers on them. You can use your boat at high point and any other electric only lake, just don't run your gas motor. You have enough Hp for the rivers, and launches are everywhere depending on what river and where you want to go. You want to fish the Alleghey, yough, mon or Ohio? early season places. I would say Crooked Creek( in about 3 weeks) & keystone power dam. In may, mid to late may. Try Edinboro, I know its Unlimited, but its so small its funny. Your boat is great for that lake. From mid May on, the rivers are great. The lower yough and middle allegheny are good. Also one of the best spring places is erie bay in late may, your boat is fine in the bay. so is your canoe LARDBASS. Misery Bay( no wake) is the best. Big bass here are a few public launches: Alleghey river, Kittanning. take Rt 28 north, to Rt 422 east take business 422 into kittanning. at the bottom of the hill there is Sheetze. the ramp is right there on the left. Alleghey River Ford city(same pool as above but another ramp) rt 28N to rt422 east, to rt 66 south, about 3 miles come to sheetze, make right at light. go down hill keep bearing to the left. You will come to a bridge, do not cross it, make left before it, fallow road along river and come to a Y bear right then left on dirt road. ramp is right there. Yough River, McKeesport: take turnpike east to monroeville exit. go to monroevill at first light make left onto Rt 48 S. You will take this for about 10 miles. pass a Tom Clark Chevy on right, mile down road come to a T. Make Rt onto Rt 148 , go 2 -3 miles to a T, make left. Go over bridge. at end of bridge make right. At stop sign make right, not hard right, go to stop sign and make right. road ends at ramp. This is at the mouth of the yough so the Mon is there to. Yough River Boston, same as above at first T make left stay on rt 48 S. go over bridge make right at light. Make first right road ends at water. If you let me know what river you want to fish and what area of it I can tell you where the launch ramps are. also if you need directions to lakes I can help.
