  1. about 4 years ago. I noticed that gander mountain had Chonarchs marked wrong in their case a chronach 100 super free for $125 and 100MG for $135. since they were display models I asked if he could nock off 20%. he said 10% so I bought both of them. as he was ringing them up he realized they were maked wrong. Still sold them to me with the discount.
  2. T_Dot, first off, there is not a 24 volt Battery, you use 2-12 volt in series. for a 36 volt set up you use 3-12volt Batteries the 14 footer, this is what gear it hauls. (Tournament rigged) 14 foot starcraft V hull, 3 groupe 24 batteries 20gal livewell full floor and front/rear casting decks 6 gal gas 15hp merc outboard 2 guys and gear for tournament day 4-6 rods each and our tackle TMs 2 TM set up: 2 55# 12 volt minkotas. one powerdrive(bow) one transom 55# 1 TM set up: 1 Motorguide tour Digital 36volt 109# bow TM 2 55# minkota 12 volts. How long does it last? well I have to watch and take it easy. I don't run both at the same time much, because I just burn the batteries up fast. I do sometime but not for long time. I use the transom to get to places and the bow to fish. If I need some speed to get someplace fast I'll use both. I only get about half a day out of them ,if I am on them hard ever less. I usually just craw in at the end of the day. what's the best thing I found about this setup? Its cheeper than a 36 Volt TM, that's all If I was to change something and why? I did, get rid of the 12 volt TMs and use the 36 volt tm. Why? its fater and last longer. with the 36volt 109# TM I am drawing less amps on those 3 batteries than I am with the 2 12volt 55# motors. Therfore on the same batteries i can run alot longer. At the end of a 8-9hr tournament, I still have power left. faster? I know how much faster. the 2 55# push the boat around 4 mph on the GPS(both at full power) the 109# pulls the boat at 6mph.(full power) When I run the 109# on my 17'6" boat it pull is at 4.5 mph. The wind and wave have nothing to do with what set up is fater. In wind and wave the 109# is still faster. and the 109# can handle the wind and wave better. but my father uses it often. It has the 2- 12 volts on it when he uses it, when I need it. I take the TM off of my big boat and put it on the 14 footer. I have the boat set up with quick disconect TM mounts so they can change easy. Also have the boat wired up so All I have to do is add two jumper wires and plug the TM in. I have 3 bank BPS charger on it(small only 5amp per bank), so its always charged, no mater if I have it in 36 or 12 volt mode. I am not saying that mine is the best setup, or that I am an expert with TM only boats. I fish TM only lake abot 10 time a year. so i don't spen that much time on them. I use my big boat with the 36volt Tnm most of the time anyway on those lakes. the set up I have with the 36volt tm is the best set up I have. with my gear. I run a 36volt Tm because that is what i have. If I had a 24 volt Tm I would still use it over the 2 12 volt TMs. I did have a 70#24volt Tm, but hated it and sold it. The motor was just bad. always had a problem with it. If I still had it it would be on that 14foot instead of the 2-12volt tm. the guys that run electic only boats all the time will be the experts.
  3. I have tried many want to be senkos. I have found none that compare. the senkos work when other do not. I know they are High $$, but that is the only ones I use. I don't waist my $$ on the cheep ones. I want to catch fish/find fish whenever I fish, so why use the cheep ones, if I think they don't work as good? If you like fishing with senkos, I would not waist my money on the knock offs
  4. Most of my BC have heavier line, but I do use a few with 10 and 8 pound line. My light weight set up is for erie SM fishing. I use a Team Daiwa Sol BC, with a 7 foot Gander mountain med/light rod with 8lbs P-line flouroclear. I would normaly used spinning reels, and still do, but tried this set up last year and found I was loseing less fish
  5. T_Dot to make a 24volt or 36volt system You add batteries. batteries are 12 volt 1 battery is 12 volt 2 batteries hook up in series is 24volts 3 batteries in series is 36volt. If you already have two batteries hooking them up in series will make them a 24 system. try running a 24 or 36 volt TM on the bow I have a 14 foot starcraft that I have two 55# 12volt Minkota TM on the bow and transom. They push it ok, but those motors kill the batteries very quick. I have to run 3 batteries in the boat. One for the bow TM, one for the transom TM, and one to run live well pumps, lights, & electronics. I have a 109# 36volt bow TM for my big boat. I put it on my 14footer sometimes with the same 3 batteries hooked up in series. It pushes the boat alot faster than the two 55# and I can run all day and still have power left.
  6. Start calling dealers in Canada Sounds crazy, but a few years ago I lost the hood for a 60's 6hp johnson. I could find whole motors, but no hoods. It took about 6 months, but found a used outboard parts shop in canada that had one. don't have the # sorry. it was by Kingston Onterio. Johnson's are king in canada.
  7. be quick with the net, if you don't know how to back a boat in, tell the owner. If a guy can't back down the ramp. I'll back the boat in till the trailer tire hit the water. then get in the boat and have him just back up enough for the boat to come off. then he can park it. If you don't know how to. Try to practice if you can. Take enough gear that you will need, but don't take everything you own. You don't want to over crowd the boat with your stuff. I am an owner, but when I do go as a rider, I try to keep it to 4-5 rods and two small bags. You will se some guys that carry 10 rods and have enough gear to fill a U-haul. And if you do smoke or chew, ask the owner if its ok to do that on thier boat, before you start. I don't smoke and I don't let people smoke on my boat. I did at one time, then I had to replace a seat and carpet because of burns. A lot of guys get mad when I say "No smoking".
  8. I looked at one of these, but I don't think it would help me. My TM cuts the weed good. rearly do I ever get any stuck on the prop. Now getting weeds stuck on the shaft is another story. If they made something to help with that I would buy it.
  9. They are OK motors if you use TM only lakes. Because You can control the TM from almost anywhere in the boat. or if you us your TM for trolling. I had a few, the best thing I ever did was to get rid of them. If your someone who is using his TM a lot during the day. and in tight cover. Forget it. The steering is slow, It always seem that Your one step behind. The cable steer is more responsive. If that is what you have now. use it, but plan on upgrading in the future.
  10. If you go Humminbird. You can get two 787c2i at $650 each for bow and consol and get their new interlink for $150 that lets both units share info. this way what ever you save on one is saved and seen on the other. The two uits will work together. that is right at your $1400 limit I have a 787c and a Matrix 87c, which are almost the same unit. Im getting an interlink shortly. The 787c is a great unit
  11. can you say "SAWZAW" ;D ;D
  12. Check out; http://www.pabassfederation.com/ or http://www.pabass.com/ and post on their message boards for clubs in your area. I know there are a few in both pabassferation.com is BASS pabass.com is FLW
  13. wondering why Team Daiwa is just kind of sittin quietly on the side..... ? because those guys are fishing. not sitting at home I am a shimano/ Team diawa guy when it comes to BC Quantum when its spinning I have tride Abu in the past. and the Revo looks nice, but its one of those thing when you have had bad luck every time you have used one brand you stay away from it always.
  14. The most power when it comes to pontoon is a little different than Bass Boats. Pontoons are not speed boat, however ther are some that are fast. The Waco, I think its their 35 footer, with tri-toon and twin 300hp, yes that is twin 300hp. will run in the mid 60's with something like 14 poeple on it. Its also over 100K now that is over kill, but fun My dad was just bought a 25 foot Crestliner tri-toon with a 150 opimax merc and my aunt has a 25 foot Sun tracker tri-toon with a 4.3 liter 190 hp V-6 I/O and our camp boat ( it came with the camp when the family bought it ) it is and older play bouy 22 foot with a 70hp johnson where he have them docked, most of the pontoons are 20-28 feet and average motor is a 90hp- 115hp. a few with 150-200Hp and some with 40-60 Hp. most in the 90-115 and the guys that have been running them for year, all say that hp range, 90-115, is the best for that size pontoons the 150 will push that boat pretty good. With a 25 footer I would say anything in the 90 to 150Hp range will be good. 115hp being the in the middle. One thing to look at is a tri-toon. it used 3 pontoon instead of one. It can hold more wieght and has better performance than a 2 pontoon boat also take a look at the ones that run an I/O. alot of those you can get with a 130hp or 195 hp v-6 for about the same price as one with a 115-150 outboard if he is going to keep in in the water all summer, which is what we do, get the pontoons cleaned after ever season, and when the boat is docked and not is use, trim the motor out of the water. You can go realy crazy with all the opions on a pontoon, we looked at some in a 30 foot class ove 30K with out a motor or tailer. But you can find some at a good price. the Crestliner was in the 23-25K range with the 150opimax
  15. cart7, Sorry I was not saying that you or anybody on this thread was putting down Nitro. It was an observation of what I hear from a lot of people when I am at tournaments or just fishing. I also said that is the way I felt, until I got an up close look at the new 901. I changed my mind on Nitro. However, there are other boats I would look at first before I looked at a Nitro for my next boat. The main thing I was saying is this guy ask for our option between these two boats, not any other. There are other boats I would look at before I looked at a Nitro or procraft, but I was listening to what was asked. he ask between those two. I was not trying to start an argument, and I am sorry. and we agree about what boat. I would say procraft because of the 200, but the nitro because of the dealer. in that case the dealer wins. but if he can swing a deal with the good dealer on that nitro with a 175 or 200 close to what the other wants for that propcraft. I would have no problems going for the nitro at all here are the spec. for each boat. they are almost the same. the procraft is 25 pounds heavier, but can hold more wieght, 2 gal mor gas tank. with the same motors the nitro is said to be faster SPECIFICATIONS: procraft Length 18' 6'' Beam 94" Max. 16. I have several Pinnacle reel Bc and spinning. they are nice reels for the $$. I just picked up a new Solene on ebay for $30 feel like a reel that cost a lot more. Just one note. If the reels need service, you will have to send them back to Pinnacle to be service. Pinnical does not ship parts out to reel shops. Reel shops can clean them, but not fix them. they are good and fast about cleaning and fixing reels. in the past I have had them replace an older reel that need fixed with a newer better one free of charge
  17. first use a polamar knot and buy a good set a "super line" scissors ones that are made for braided line. I get mine at Gander mountain, In the fly fishing section for $5 work great and last a long time. sound like you were ripping or tareing, not cutting the line what were you useing to cut the line?
  18. Ok the guy asked between these two boats. not any others. :-X These are the two boats he likes. If it was boat for boat, I would go with the Pro Craft because of the 200HP but, with what was said about dealers. a dealer is importand if you need help with your new boat. then I would say the Nitro Everbody puts Nitro down, "its a poor mans boat" "its a entry level boat" If they are so "Bad" why do they the snot out of them? I used to think this way to. However a freind bought an new 901 with a 200 on it last year. That boat changed the way I think about Nitro's now.
  19. Well, your looking for the "Western Pa boat" as I call it. A boat that can do it all around here. run the big water, the unlimited lakes and the limited lakes. OK fitting in a 19 foot garage, and still good for Erie is a problem Look for a 16 to 17 foot boat with a swing away tongue on the trailer (I would rather go for a 17-19 foot)( and I would not go any smaller than 16 on Erie, even on a good day). Your looking a used, which is OK. also Aluminum is the way to go. easier to tow, good on the rivers around here I would also say a V hull (For Erie) If you look at tracker boats for reference a Pro guide V-16 or 17 or a Targa 175 or 165 is what I am talking about. Those are new, but a used boat like that Look in the auto/boat trader and check the local boat dealers. These are very popular around here. you can find a nice used one with like a 60-125hp outboard for under 10k and if it doesn't come with a kicker you can pick up used 9.9 for under $1500 My self I have a 17 1/2 foot Sea Nymph GLS 175 (like a tracker Targa 175 WT) it has a 75hp and a mount for a kicker so I can fish, the limited lakes (I have a 9.9 and a 6hp kicker for it. I also have a good TM. It can be used on any of the lakes and rivers around Pittsburgh. It fished Erie very well, have made many 20-30 mile runs up there is some bad water. the V hull like that can handle Erie very well. Try Donegal marine they are off the turnpike in Donegal (by 7 springs) they deal in used boats and might have some of what your looking for. You should be able to find what your looking for. Me, my dad and a good friend all have boats like this: Sea Nymph GLS 175 75hp, Alumacraft Trophy 17 125hp, Spectrum Avenger 17 115hp, all were about 5 years old when bought, and all were well under $10,000, ok under $8,000. all came with TM's and fish finders. and in good condition

I use small topwater lures rat-l-traps grubs on a jig head, swimming it spoons road runners my favorate is a Krocodile Spoon . In the fall I'll hit creek mouths on the Mon river and catch 50-100 a day. They are so much fine on light gear. they fight so good.
  21. I don't know CJBasswacker, maybe your tournaments In most tournaments I fish there is check in time and if your not there, even if you paid up front, by the end of check in time you don't fish. don't they do a boat check? even my club. there is a set check in time if your late for that, even if we haven't launched yet, your DQ from the tournament. If you fish a state federation tournament there has to be a owner and a rider. they are ussially set up before . your late the have to re-set the field, if they can't your owner or rider is dq too. and you are not aloud to leave your boat either.
  22. northgabassfisher, I agree with you, a Motorguide digital tour is the way to go. In my mind its the best one I have used. I have the 36volt 109# digital tour. Have had it for3 years and not a problem. Motorguide has had a bad rep. and they deserve it. I had two older ones and hated them. That is why I went to minkota, But this new Motorguide digitalTour series is a different animal from the entire rest of Motorguide line up. I would pick a Minkota over any other series of Motorguide motors; however I would pick the Motorguide tour series over any minkota/ And the unbreakable shaft of a minkota to a stainless steel one of a motoguide. I have run my motorguide into stumps and rocks and never bent the shaft. the break-away mount work just the way it was supposd to. The only TM shaft I have ever bent was one on an older Minkota powerdrive
  23. I use Humminbird, but I got a RAM mount. Its great. only had to drill 3 small holes and you can turn the unit in any direction you need. I would get a RAM mount. I mounted it infront of the TM petal and it doesn't get in the way at all.
