For me it would be the Shimano Tranx 300a (5.8:1) to use with .75 to 2 oz. lures, fishing for bass in waters that also harbor pike and musky. I'd just like to see how it would perform vs. what I have now. jj

Nice camera, but expensive. GoPro can be had for less. Two of my friends tell me that these Panasonic cameras are reliable. This is the reason that I have 2-piece rods, and keep them locked in the trunk. I had thought about something like the big Plano tubes, but decided against it. Such things scream, "Hey! Look at me! I've got something inside that my owner doesn't want you to see! It's valuable!" The only other answer I saw was from a man with an older utility van. He could shove rods clear up under the front seat from the back doors, using a simple piece of cardboard from a refrigerator box to hide them. Good luck. jj

I'm sure all of you will be aghast, but I have no cell phone, and I have no tablet. Don't want any, either. That's why I asked about a small water resistant (or waterproof) camera. I don't quite know what I'm gonna do. I may have to break down, quit being so cheap and go the GoPro route. I dunno. My thanks to all of you. A camera isn't fishing tackle, yet in a way it is. I already have a digital camera, but it's big and not waterproof (or water resistant). So many times when I see you guys post pics, I want to post pics too. I went to wallyworld to look into a camera that was: small water resistant small easy to use (remember ... I'm an old fart) small lower priced small They had several models, but a guy there who said he fished told me, "They say they're water resistant, but they're really not." I have no idea whether he knew what he was talking about, but it gave me pause. I'm NOT going to get a GoPro. No way. Nope. Isn't there a small, reliable, hopefully cheap digital camera that is at least water resistant? All ideas are welcome. Thnx. jj

My conditions are much like the OP's - iceout two weeks ago, but cool weather preventing appreciable warmup of the water. I've had success with slow spoons (imagine that!) but the only other fisherman that I saw catching multiple bass was using this. jj

And that's one of the other black lures that I got for Christmas. Northland Reed Runner in "bullhead". I need to try it out soon, too. jj

And here I hadn't realized that they had a black model. I have the silver, now I gotta get the black. jj

Went to the sand pit today. Threw in: silver Mepps, wonderbread Wally Diver, baby bass Bandit 200, green blade bait, orange, pink and brass Cop-e-cats, all to no avail. No fish, not even a hit. Last fall there was a discussion about black lures, and I had bought some for Christmas. One of them was a black Dardevle. I put that one on, and two hours and five (little) bass later, I'm convinced! Black is the new chartreuse! I have to admit that I had my doubts about all-black lures. No more! I sense the Bait Monkey sneaking up behind me...... ? jj

It might or might not be a lot of work, but it's a lot of money. Good reason to settle for "good enough". jj
