  1. I was wondering what some of the rituals / superstitions some of yall have. I have two that come to mind. As I am on the way to the ramp, when I get about five minutes from it (i have this spot on the road marked) Robert Earl Keen's "Five Pound Bass" starts playing. Usually as I am backing my boat in the song ends and I turn my radio off. (side note - if you haven't heard REK's "Five Pound Bass" check it out, excellent bass fishing song). The second thing I do everytime is, my first cast is always about 2 -5 ft... So i don't catch one on my first cast. I have been doing this one for about 10 years now. I didn't start doing it, until one day it came true. I caught a good fish first cast only to not get a sniff the other 5 - 6 hours. Dad said, Boy you can't catch one on the first cast, that's bad luck. advice taken. Anyway those are mine. So give me some good ones, I need something to help my make it through a day of tax returns when I should be fishing.
  2. BPS sells the Kinami Palm Tree which is EXACTLY the same thing (but the color selection may be a little different). You'll find them under soft baits>grubs or just search for palm tree. Just got some... Thanks
  3. I was about to buy some online at Bass Pro (through the banner of course ) soley b/c of things i have read about them on here, But I couldn't find them anywhere on the site. I would go somewhere else, but I wanted to use my reward points. May just have to buck up and pay for them.
  4. I have a few. I had to see what all the fuss was about. And honestly I haven't noticed a difference in my fish catching b/c I am using LuckyCraft. In fact I would venture to say I have better luck with Bandits. But I also have fished those a lot more than LCs. I have had a few chome bandits lose their finish (Flakes off) and had some treble hooks bend.
  5. You made a good choice IMO. I throw these a lot. If you team up the Zoom hooks with the mann's hard nose, you can catch far more fish per frog than with any other set up. I used to like the horny toad but have gotten away from it. Try some Ribbits. they have unbelievable action. If you want big frogs, look at Seismic (sp.) these are huge. let the fish get the frog before setting the hook. I caught some good ones yesterday afternoon on the Ribbit. My girlfriend was throwing the same frog. I caught 6, she caught zero. she missed everyone bc/ she has a quick trigger. when you get a hit. count to two (maybe three) then jack his jaw. good luck.
  6. That is amazing. What is more amazing to me is that he stuck to his guns at Amistad. He didn't get caught up in doing what everyone else was doing. He had his plan, and he stuck to it, he just kept throwing that jig knowing the bite was going to come. If I was a betting man, I'd bet that he threw that jig all day yesterday as well. Note to self... throw the jig, when you get tired of throwing it throw it a 1000 more times.

what happened to Kevin Short on Day 2. He had around 33 lbs on day 1 and it shows zero for day two. had to be some sort of DQ, or something. there is no way he got skunked. just wondering he is from just up the road from where I grew up
  8. Back to the question, but I am changing the question. How do you approach the larger companies about becoming a sales rep? Most of the websites don't have an employment link on them. I am thinking about sending a cover letter and resume to them via fax number listed on their site. That is about the only thing I can think of. Just want to make sure I am not missing something.
  9. Getting to this a little late, but here is my 2 cents. I think you have to point out your accomplishments, achievements. Not so much your athletic achievements but focus on your ability to handle many things at once. I am somewhat biased, because I played college baseball for 4 years. And I know the challenges of balancing athletics and academics. My GPA was a 2.9. Which some people frown upon. But In interviews, resumes, etc. I tried to focus on my abiltity to do many things at once and the difficulty and perseverience I had. Not bragging, but it was hard to balance baseball and classes. Leaving San Antonio at 3:00 Sunday afternoon heading back to school in Little Rock is a ten hour drive, and studying in the back of a charter bus for a Monday morning test is hard. I worked hard and graduated in 4 years was an all conference baseball player. and went back and got my master degree the following year. In short, if you GPA isn't top notch, take the emphasis away from that to something that makes you look better. I'll put my question out there now. What can a guy with a Masters Degree in accounting do in the fishing industry? I would love to be a Rep of somekind, but I have zero sales experience. I have 3 years experience in public accounting.
  10. Depends on what the guy in the front of the boat is doing and positioning the boat. I like to fish with my buddies and prefer it to fishing by myself, but I position the boat different if someone is in the back of the boat. on the flip side, I always catch more fish when I am by myself. Then I can position the boat with one thing in mind... where do I need to be to make this cast, pitch or flip to this spot.
  11. Ok... need some help. The lights on one side of my trailer don't work, but the problem is not the trailer. Hooked it up to a buddy's truck last week and all lights worked fine and dandy. We got under the truck and all wires appear to be fine. Am I going to have to rewire the lights to my trailer hook up? I have a nice hook up. Not sure what it is called, but I have a round attachment that plugs into the truck, and I then plug the trailer wire into the round attachment. I have no idea what any of them are called. Help
  12. I love wiggle warts this time of year (prespawn). They are supposed to have a wide wobble. About 90% of the bass I catch on cranks are caught by deflecting it off of wood or some other type of cover. If there is a lot of wood around mono is the way to go with crankbaits. The stretch in the line makes the bait less suseptable to hanging up. Hope it helps.
  13. Here is the thing I don't understand, why did they not show the weigh in live yesterday afternoon on ESPN2? I know it is going to be shown today, but it is the classic, fishing's biggest event...oh well i watched the internet feed, which by the way reminds me of old Kung-Fu movies, and the kickboxing that was on instead.
  14. Found one and wanted to put the name out there... RodBenders. I have the name and contact number if any other people from around the Texarkana area want to join.
  15. Wanted to bring this back to the front b/c I have had no luck, and noticed a few more people around here that call Millwood home Hillbilly Hooker, I emailed the guy listed for the NE Texas region and never got a response. Any other suggestions?
  16. First outing planned for this Saturday (when I get off work ) and Sunday. I look at current weather and Water temp. I primarily fish Millwood Lake (SW Arkansas). Water temp. in upriver oxbows is running about 3-5 degrees warmer, so i will be up there probably most of saturday afternoon. Weather this week is cooperating...so far. Highs in mid 70' all week will hopefully get the prespawn rolling. My setup will look a lot like Catt's, but I will also be throwing a crawfish colored storm wiggle wart quite a bit. what can I say... i'm a cranker.
  17. Shallow running crankbaits around wood
  18. Every fish I loose was a potential world record... jk 8-) Fishing a local Monday night tournament a few years ago, throwing a storm wiggle wart in prespawn and I catch a 5 lb'er. Very next cast I throw in the same spot and it feels like a concrete block has attatched itself to my crankbait. I get this fish up to the boat and it is probably a 15 - 20 lb.......catfish. I reached down and my line broke (b/c of the clippers that i cut the line with).. 8-) I thought i had a monster, and me and the old lady were going sizzler. That counts as a lost fish, doesn't it?

  20. it has been a cluster you know what with the hogs and everything going on this week. i am on a hog message board quite a bit and some of the rumors were ridiculous. i am right with you, McFadden should run, run, and run. but if you are one dimensional, you will get stopped. The passing game is miserable. Millwood Lake is about the only lake around here that I somewhat know. I have fished Wright Patman, but prefer Millwood. I just moved down here about 3 - 4 months ago. i used to fish Lake Conway (AR) and the Arkansas River (Little Rock pool). Lake Conway is very underrated. it takes minimum 25 lbs to win a one day Saturday tournament on that lake (5 Fish). VERY Shallow and stumpy . if you don't know the lake, you can ruin a boat in a hurry. I can't wait to fish Lake Fork. i think it is only about an hour and half away. Do you have any other suggestions on lakes that are within two hours of texarkana?
  21. Sorry, I was at the game in Little Rock and it still hurts. McFadden takes one 80 yards up the gut for TD. We have momentum for about 2 seconds. Then the kickoff gets returned. LSU wins by 5. I am very interested in Toledo Bend.
  22. I go fishing everytime I get a chance. the only problem is in about a month my chances will be very limited until April 15th. Being an accountant and bass fishing don't go together too well. My busiest time of the year is also my favorite time to bass fish. Sundays are the only day i really get to go. I need to get my priorities straight 8-) and to answer you question... whenever you want. I will be sporting my lucky razorback hat though 8-)
  23. I bought my boat in Longview about 3 months ago (I live in Texarkana). I just moved to Texas in August. I haven't made it to Lake Fork, Sam Rayburn, Toledo Bend, Texoma, Lewisville, and many others ...YET. So you texans that are familar with these lakes, i will be hitting you up in about 2 months. 8-).
  24. Thanks, I'll am going to give it a try. Maybe I'll have some pictures come Monday morning. 8-)
  25. Ok, the old lady and I are going camping this weekend on Lake Ouachita (AR). I want to do some striper fishing b/c I've never been. I don't want a guide, I would just like to give it a try. I looked around on here and couldn't find anything. So any tips or advice would be appreciated b/c i haven't the slightest clue.
