  1. Braid with leaders for both.
  2. 7.3 is still pretty fast. It would be slightly more versatile than the 8.1, but if you're going to frog, pitch or use for bottom contact then you may want the faster retrieve. Put the 8.1 on the irod.
  3. No dual braking, just magnetic.
  4. You have the right rod and reel, but wrong line. Get 30 or 40lb power pro or other quality braid.
  5. Fenwick will send you a tip guide. It's an easy fix that you can YouTube. Now the other guides require some professional help.
  6. I love my t3mx with sv1000 deep spool. The 3d braking is my favorite system. I'd personally pass on the ballistic though because the spool was too heavy and struggled with sub 5/16 and the retrieve was rough because of no drive shaft bearing. You can find 1016's pretty cheap. The steez 103 can be finicky with the stock r+ spool and fluoro because the braking profile is so light. I put the spool in tdz 103ml and it flies. I have a 1016 in my steez and it rocks.
  7. I'd go with the tatula sv or sv105.
  8. Any of the sv spool variants should work. I have an alphas sv, t3 mx with an sv1000 spool, px type r and I can go pretty light with any of them. If you really want to go finesse, the diy spools from ray's studio are a pretty inexpensive option. They make them for a variety of daiwa and shimano reels. The only downside is the low line capacity, but I use 15lb braid and get plenty of line.
  9. I'd be interested in pics.
  10. I'm looking for a travel casting rod I can take on trips and keep in my trunk. I'm looking at the daiwa ardito and Fenwick methods travel rod. I like the concept of the Fenwick, but wonder how it compares to the ardito. Is there something else in the same price range I should look at? Who has the one of the fenwick's that can give a review?
  11. I like to use mine for wacky rigging senkos, tubes, poppers, lipless cranks, finesse jigs, anything within it's lure rating. Medium powered rods are versatile.
  12. Faster reel for pitching and slower for cranking. Lefty because it's more comfortable for you.
  13. Spinner baits are a bait that can be fished with a typical jig/t rig rod or a moderate/fast rod because it's basically a jig with blades. Some people prefer a softer tip to give the fish a chance to take the bait while others prefer a faster tip for better hook sets. I've used both with success but I prefer to use my expensive jig/t rig rods for bottom contact baits. I use a mh/mf for spinner baits and chatter baits.
  14. $220 for that combo is a great deal. You'd be off to a great start with a quality combo.
  15. I'll bet it's already been lubed/oiled from the factory (probably overlubed). I personally flush and lube my new reels, but for a beginner I'd recommend just go fishing. You want to make sure the reel is in good work in order.
  16. Lefty for pitching for sure.
  17. You can use any reel for pitching unless you're using lighter stuff. Lighter stuff is easier with lighter, shallower spools. I prefer fast reels for pitching.
  18. Almost 100% casting, even for finesse stuff like Ned rigs and 1/8 jigs with grubs. I use a px type r with a diy spool on a ml rod and I can cast the lightest bass baits as far as I can with spinning gear. I'm way more accurate and efficient with casting gear. I do prefer spinning gear for drop shots though.
  19. I've been told there is no difference other than color.
  20. A lot of choices with that price range: megabass xx perfect pitch, destroyer valdiva, dobyns champion 735c, alx toadface, klx are a few good choices.
  21. It depends on what techniques you want to use. Off the top of my head: a medium/fast spinning combo, a moderate action cranking combo, another mh/f casting combo, a heavy power casting combo.
  22. If you're referring to the rough feeling of braid going through the guides then it's perfectly normal.
