  1. Even though they say the steez sv tws is ok in salt, I would go with the aluminum steez a. I keep my mg reels away from saltwater.
  2. I'd go with braid and leader. It just fits all of the techniques you mentioned and the leader will help if you're worried about spooking the fish.
  3. I'd love to see this happen. If I had a say I'd like to see the following: 1. Same mg frame with more durable finish 2. Available in right and left retrieve with choices of 5.xx, 6.xx, 7.xx and 8.xx gear 3. 90mm carbon fiber handle with cork knobs 4. Keep the R+ spool 5. Magforce 3d brakes 6. No T wing.
  4. True 1/8 is pretty light for casting gear and gets to a point where you need special spools, light or ml rods and lighter line. I'm not familiar with rod or reel, but I'll bet it's not ideal. I would think you need a 2 power dobyns for those weights.
  5. I palm the reel and run the line over my index finger.
  6. You already know that lefty reels feel more natural to you so go for it and don't look back. That's what I did.
  7. My tdz's with r+ spools still outcast all my other reels. They also out pitch everything else. I have hedge hog airs, carbontex and carbon fiber handles and I will never get rid of them. They are still refined and smooth. I'm still looking for a mint ito or personal order. If I want to go finesse I can pop in any number of shallow spools or an sv spool.
  8. KVD works great for me and easily available.
  9. I prefer casting gear for everything but dropshotting. I even use casting gear with shallow spools for finesse techniques like ned rig, neko and shakey head. I'm far more accurate and more efficient especially since I use lefty reels. I cast, stop the bait and engage the gears. No flipping the bail, casting, stopping the bait and flipping the bail or switching hands. Just my 2 cents.
  10. Both are excellent reels, but I always choose shimano personally.
  11. I could get away with 4 combos: a medium or ml spinning combo for finesse, a medium or mh moderate casting combo for treble baits, a mh/f casting combo for t-rigs and jigs and heavy casting combo for frogs and pitching.
  12. If I was fishing 20+ tournaments a season, I wouldn't even think about a $50 Kast king reel. I'm sure they are fine reel that fits a need for budget minded anglers or the occasional fisherman.
  13. Definitely back off drag for trebles. I do it by feel but I'm sure someone will come on and tell you how they use a scale to precise amount of drag.
  14. It's pretty supple and fairly quiet through guides. My only complaint is how much it bleeds.
  15. Tatula ct type r for $130 on the same auction site.
  16. Always wet the line.
  17. I use kvd line & lure on my fluoro set ups and it works.
  18. Which knot are you using? I've been using braid with fluoro leaders for years and have great success with improved clinch knots.
  19. I have the 7' KLX MH/MF crank, rip, twitch and it is perfect for what you need.
  20. I've never felt the need to go any heavier than 50lb. Out of curiosity, how many of you have broken 50lb braid?
  21. I think you chose wisely.
  22. I use sniper on my weightless plastics and finesse combos. There is no doubt it is more finicky than braid or mono, but it has it's place in my arsenal. Line and lure helps a lot.
  23. I'd get a heavy powered rod frogs and pitching into cover. I fish from a yak as well and I find myself fishing in pads and weeds alot.
  24. IMO, braid is the way to go and learn how to tie a leader knot. The alberto is the easiest for me.
  25. I use the alberto knot to tie leaders. For me, it's the easiest and strongest knot.
