Buddy has a gift certificate to Gander. He is a newb and has a pontoon boat. Salesman recomends a Humminbird 698ci HD SI Chartplotter Fishfinder Combo on sale for $400 - a $50 rebate I think. I am reccomending a Humminbird Helix 5 DI Fishfinder for $250.- $50 rebate Since boat is in one lake and no map available I dont think he needs GPS or maps. Since new to electronics and small screen I dont think he needs or will interpret Si very well Will the Di unit get better Di than the 698 with Di from Si? Thanks

No disrespect but those images look sub par to others I have seen from a Helix 5. Is frequency adjustable on those? They may like a lil faster speed. Also can the numbers be made transparent backround so you get more screen area?

HDS10 is 2d sonar only. No Di or Si. Also if it has a prob Lowrance will not repair Gen1

As said. Safety first If you are melting Semko's you should not need to add any salt as it is already in there. When remelting senko's they will absorb moisture and bubble when you micro them. Cook in short 15 sec intervals as they will burn fast. stir stir stir.

I would look at the Humminbird Helix series or Garmin Striker series. Both good bang for the buck
