Bite Detection
Thanks guys, it’s been great reading the responses and I’ve learned a lot about fishing a jig. Went out tonight and caught a couple smallies on a 3/8blk n blue jig w/ green pumpkin craw. Thank you again.

Best braid lb for a beginner with braided line?
Start with 15-20, if you want 10lb is fine too. My spinning reel is 20lb braid to 12lb flouro, personal preference.

Bite Detection
I like both of them, bought my the 7MMH/XF the year they came out and it’s not disappointed. The 7’3MH/F has more bend which makes it great for topwater, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits. I throw everything on that rod, wouldn’t hesitate to throw a frog in open water on it w/ 50lb braid.

Megabass Levante Perfect Pitch for Frogs?
Have an Orochi XXX F7-70X Destruction (JDM) model and it’s phenomenal for frogs and bigger baits. I think the model you’re looking at would do you credibly, only other rod I’d seriously look at in the $200ish range would be the ALX toadface mh+ and guys love it. Also the Tatula elite models 7’1H and 7’3H would do you well too.

Bite Detection
I started off bass fishing dragging jigs n plastics or dead sticking them. The last few years have been reaction baits, so everything kinda feels foreign if you know what I mean. Thanks dude!

Bite Detection
Wow-I wish it was two at a time. It should of signs not singles... Apparently I need to watch my typing.

Thinking about a shorter frog rod
My top three frog rods: Orochi XXX F7-70 Destruction -JDM model from Tackle Trap, lots of power, moderate fast, and good tip section. Tatula Elite 7’4 H/F AGS -the longest I’d go probably. Good tip section, solid backbone, and can double as a jig rod if needed. Tatula Elite 7’3 H/F pitching rod -a little tip heavy, pairs well with heavier reels for a balance standpoint. Good back up.

Then I’ll keep using what I got and learn with time on the water.

Bite Detection
That’s exactly what I’m talking about Tom and I think you answered the question of does gear help you catch fish? No, time on the water does. Thank you for your insight.

Bite Detection
It it worth upgrading a jig rod to detect bites? Two rods I use currently: Ehrler MMH/XF 7’ Tat Elite or 7’3 Ehrler Tat Elite. Ive fished a lot of jigs this year and the last few fish have been caught there was not signes of a fish or bite. Started reeling then weight or my line started swimming off. Am I chasing gear that won’t help me or is this something that will aid in catching fish?

Finesse jigs and line
Thanks y’all. Seems like most people hover around the 6’10-7’3 range for rods. Line is a a wider range, 10-16lb fc or braid to leader. Jigs, I should of specified more on this subject. While almost throw lighter jigs: 1/8-1/4oz, I was thinking more finesse cut jigs. My lightest jig is 1/4oz for casting gear.

'Light' Pitching Baitcasting Rod
I’d look at the Tatula 6’10 MH/F or the Zodias 6’10 M/F. If you wanted to spend a bit more the Expride 6’10 M/F would be excellent.

1 month review - Daiwa Tatula Elite Casting Rod
Thanks dude, wish this model has the AGS guides, it would be perfect then and is darn near perfect now. Spinnerbaits no problems, chatterbaits yep. I’m confident a frog in open water would hold up just fine.

1 month review - Daiwa Tatula Elite Casting Rod
The 7’3 is one of my favorite rods, just does so much well in terms of techniques. Spinnerbait, topwater, jigs, small swimbaits, and more. Mine is paired up with a Zillion 7:3:1 and it’s perfect.

Finesse jigs and line
Back at this subject again lol! What’s everyone’s rod choice for finesse jigs? MH/F? M/F? Length? Handle length?

Looking for a new baitcaster $300 budget
I love my Daiwa’s but man if you haven’t fished the Bantam MGL do it and you won’t regret it. I’ve got two zillions, two Steez and still the bantam is the smoothest reel I own. Had a Chronarch MGL and didn’t care for it, the size bothered me.

Minnesota Fishing Report - 2019
I’ve had a few largies close to shore, but lost them. That’s been a problem lately, two night in a row with lost fish. One a dark sleeper the other on a frog. Time to beef up my hooksets? I don’t know.

Curado 200k side plate WONT LATCH!
The cast control knob needs to be loosened for the side plate to close. My Curado K did the same thing and after while messing with it with some reading, the cast control knob is the issue. I sold mine not long after. Hated that about it. My Bantam MGL(currently own & love) and Chronarch MGL(sold) didn’t have this problem.

Baitcaster Problem
I guess the better question is, am I doing this right with pairing rods and reels to the techniques I have them specified for. Potentially willing to upgrade if there are better options avalyaibe.

Which Steez is for me?
For me it’s a size thing, have larger hand so anything too small makes it uncomfortable for me. That said, I’ve owned the Steez A (swapped spools w/ Zillion) and it was great for anything I waned to throw. Currently own a Steez SV TW and that thing pitches, cast, and flips without effort, right now it has 16lb flouro for jigs and light t-rigs. It handles them well and makes fishing a joy. If you want an all purpose reel, I’d look at the Steez A, if you’re looking more finesse than the Steez SV is what you are after.

Baitcaster Problem
Well, I started analyzing my baitcasters and what I can do with them. Currently have 6 baitcasters and 1 spinning rod(content). Only listing 5 because the 6th is my cranking rod and jerkbait which won’t change. If anything changes it might the reel. Im looking at changing up my rods as the reels are sound in terms of techniques and my style. Mind you these rods cover multiple purposes because anything more than 7 is too much for me. Not listing my spinning set up because I’m confident that it will be fine. Considering Dobyns, Megabass, ALX, Kistler for rods. Dobyns because they give a discount to veterans. I like Daiwa rods and tempted to stay with them, but looking to branch out to other rods that maybe better suited for my applications. Keep in mind my price range tops out at $350. Tried a GLX and thought it was too stiff. Current rods and reels 1) Megabass Destruction F7-70XXX w/ Tatula SV 7:3 braid heavy frog/flipping 2) Tatula Elite 7’3 H/F pitching and open water frog w/Bantamn MGL 8:1 3) 7’3 Tatula Elite MH/F topwater swimjigs Zillion SV 7:3 braid 4) Tatula Elite 7’4 Spinnerbait/Chatterbait Zillion SV 6:3 16lb flouro 5) Tatula Elite 7’MMH/XF AGS finesse jigs, weightless senkos, and light t-rigs Steez SV 7:1:1 16lb flouro

Minnesota Fishing Report - 2019
Caught this guy on a dark sleeper. Drifting it through the current and twitching it. Weighed 3.32lbs, second one of that size. Hope to find something bigger.

Why lighter line ALWAYS wins ?
Admittedly, not a small line angler. My leader for smallmouth is 12lb sunline fc sniper to 20lb braid. The smallmouth are always around rocks and such plus tubes are my main style for them which means heavy hook sets. If this was open water for smallmouth, it would 10-15 braid to 8 or 10lb flouro. For largies, again open water 15-17, cover it's 15 plus. If it's frogging 50-60, if I have a small frog in open water then I can drop to 30 or 40lb braid. For me there is more confidence with bigger line.
