Thanks Deeare! I may have to check it out on Sunday even with the additional parking. That must've been some deal on the kayak!

Has anyone been to the New England Boat Show in Boston? I see there are some lure companies there and was wondering if it was worth a $16 ticket to see if they have any deals.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Hi Everyone. It's been awhile since I posted on here! Quick question... I fish the Charles River across the street from the Skate Club on Soldiers Field Road on my lunch hour (perk of working across the street) and the herring are running now. I usually just toss a spinnerbait but the herring swarm it. Anyone have any thoughts on another bait I could use that the herring will ignore? I was thinking jigs and soft plastics but my ADHD gets the better of me at times and I lose patience. (bad thing to have fishing for bass)

Info for Massachusetts fisherfolk
I agree the law is d**n confusing when it comes to trying to figure out what is legal and what is illegal. Mass Wildlife is holding a free fishing day here in Brookline on Sunday and I was planning on checking in with the officers to see if I can get some clarification on what baits with blades (ie chatterbaits, underspins, etc) are legal/not legal under this law. I will follow up on here after I talk with them. I do like the kitchen magnet idea Grumpy!

I hear you! They had a Buy 4 Get 4 Free special on Lunkerhunt lures so I picked some up and they came in 2 packages (1 box and 1 padded envelope). The padded envelope looked like it got stuck under a tire it was no longer yellow but back!

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
The stretch of the Charles River across from my work (near Eliot Bridge) I fish during my lunch time has been productive for me with 4 fish (b/t 1-2 pounds) caught and several missed strikes. I noticed a lot more people fishing today too.

All this talk of Smallies has made me make it my mission this spring to catch one and scratch it off my list of never caught! I might try the Charles River closer to Waltham since I can't travel far from Boston.

Nice to see they are biting there. That is where I usually fish the most but haven't been there this year. I finally caught my first fish of 2017 (fortunately size doesn't matter in fishing!) on the Charles River (across from the Boston Skating Club) on my lunch break today! These are also my first fish on a jerk bait. Not bad for 45 minutes of fishing!

Whopper Plopper 90 - Loon Or Yellow Head
Everyone says Loon but I have yet to catch anything on it. My best colors have been Blue Blood and Perch. I fish primarily the 90 but have not caught anything on a 130 yet.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
The only place I know people have been catching fish on the Charles River is where the Muddy River drains into the Charles(the exit off storrow drive to get to Fenway Park). I've fished there a couple of times this winter for about an hour each but got skunked both times. I think it had more to do with me struggling to use a jerk bait more than fish not being there.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Well between work, weather, and family stuff I haven't fished as much as I would've liked this fall but when I have have for an hour here or an hour there it has been totally frustrating! This October I have caught 4 bluegill, 1 perch, 5 overhanging trees (lost about $50 worth of lures), 100 lbs of weeds and leaves, and 2 half pound largemouth bass (although I have seen several making a bee-line for my bait then pull up short or they just bump my lure). I know the problem is I haven't been able to figure out how to fish the fall bite (which seems to me like bigfoot at this point ie people say it exists but I haven't witnessed it) but this is my first fall fishing in a long time. I haven't given up but just discouraged. I am definitely up for meeting at BPS and food at the diner if you pros don't mind a noob joining ya'll.

Whopper Plopper
I have been looking at the pompadours but noticed the price on them so I think I will wait to see if Santa Claus brings me one.

Whopper Plopper
There is a silent version of the 130, not sure about a 90 version. I made the mistake of ordering a couple. The only difference is they do not have the rattle in the head.

Whopper Plopper
I have had a lot of luck with the 90s (blue blood & perch). I have tried to catch fish on the 130s but have yet to catch one. I finally did get a fish to try and take it but missed it yesterday. Stay away from the Silent versions....

What would you do??
All summer I was catching fish in one are of an 18 acre man made reservoir then all of a sudden 3 weeks ago I wasn't catching any more in my "spot" on the bank. I tried every lure I had but nothing. It seemed like every waking hour, and some while I was sleeping, I was trying to figure out what happened. Then all of a sudden I noticed one very small detail about something different at my spot. All summer the wind was blowing in my face but changed direction to where it was blowing onto my back about the time the bite died so I decided to fish the other side of the reservoir so the wind was in my face. Needless to say for the past couple of weeks I have been catching fish again but nowhere near the pace I was. I'm not sure if the fish are that sensitive to wind but if it was the wind that moved the fish then I learned you need to be aware of even the most subtle changes that could affect fish behavior.

Beginner fishing techniques
As someone who recently took up fishing again after about 20 years (what was I thinking during that time?) and now have sensory overload with all the different types of lures and rigs I can relate. After almost buying just about every type of lure there is I decided to go back to basics by fishing top water baits, spinnerbaits, and Senkos for the remainder of the year. Definitely talk to people who fish around you.

First time out with the whopper plopper 90
I think I am going to wait for it to go on sale before I take the double plopper plunge.
-
First time out with the whopper plopper 90
They aren't biting the 90 where they used to so like you I might have to go to the 130 to see if they like that better. They used to kill it at my usual pond but not anymore

First time out with the whopper plopper 90
I like the way that sounds for double plopper as far as debris and may just end up trying it out. I've heard the wires get bent very easily after fish strikes. Is that true?

First time out with the whopper plopper 90
I think I am going to get a 130 in the color of the 90s I am having success with just to see what happens.
