  1. If I were you I'd go for the DSR822 in either BC/spinning. You can get it for around 180.00 on ebay right now. I own this rod and love it- the best finesse outfit I own for drop shot, split shot, shakey head.
  2. yeah I am becomming an enthusiast when it comes to bass fishing gear- as of late and I don't see myself changing anytime soon. I thought about giving a megabass destroyer a try but I just can't give up the warranty/service of g-loomis, they have a loyal customer here- one of many.
  3. they are amazing- I had a rod replaced when the reel seat came loose. A brand new rod came back- simply amazing no q's asked.
  4. Bass Pro Rick Clunn Sig series rods are on sale right now on Basspro.com for $59.00. I have the 703C that I use for crankbaits- its either in my hand or on the boat deck with my Loomis'.
  5. who makes the reels and rods for Bass Pro?
  6. I have been reading up on reels both spinning/baitcasting- on sites like tackletour.com. I was wondering if any of you guys could tell me where these guys get aftermarket parts for their reels- and better yet what are they? On a review I read on Tackletour the guy added a carbon fiber handle and other internal parts to a scorpion mg50- the upgrades would be cool to have but where on earth do you get these kinds of things?
  7. not to sure but I read a post like this a while back and most everyone says to avoid the quantum hot sauce- I am curious to. I have some abu garcia stuff now but have not used it yet.
  8. I have a curado 101D and it works pretty well for finesse fishing. I am not very experienced with setting up a baitcaster with a weightless plastic but I was able to do it.
  9. I own the DSR822 drop shot rod and I think it is the same series blank as the mossy back. I also own the BSR852 but it is a GLX. I love both rods and the characteristics of the BSR852 would suit what you are looking for-
  10. well fellas- update from the poster: I bought the steez, be here next week I got this one:.STEEZ2500 ML/L 11CRBB, 1RB 4.8 : 1 28.0 7.10 6/210, 8/170,10/140 I have a friend that has a stella and of course loves it. I am the kinda person that likes going against the grain- I will for sure be as service to you all and give you an unbiased review on the reel- head to head with the stella.
  11. I am going to get one or the other for my Loomis BSR852 GLX. What do you think?
  12. I have a MBR783C with a new Crurado 101D on it- fantastic
  13. I like RCL703 which is a bass pro Rick Clunn signature rod it is actually 7' MH but has a different type of tip on it that allows the bait to work very nicely-
  14. I am a finesse fanatic with light lines- so if I were faced with one outfit it would be my Loomis GLX BSR852 Spinning rod paired with my FUEGO 3000 spinning reel- up here in Idaho/Oregon I use this 90% of the time and fair pretty well in my club tourneys.
  15. for that price range all the manufactures are going to be pretty close in features and quality- you should be more concerned about sizes in order to fit the type of fishing he will be doing. Like light plastics or crankbaits or if a multi- tasked set-up is better. I'd go after something that caters around 6 to 10lb test and spend the 60 to 80 bucks on whatever is on sale- might get lucky and get something higher end on sale-
  16. weird, :-/ people use braid and that is it, like drop shotting? try fishing the clear waters of the N. West with only braid- good luck... I use braid in heavy cover with jigs thats about it-
  17. My weapons of choice: DSR822 Standard Loomis "not GLX" Spinning with DAIWA FUEGO 2000 (Drop Shot) BSR852 GLX Spinning with DAIWA FUEGO 3000 (Most light Plastics and senko's- some drop shotting) MBR783C GL3 with Chronarch 201 (Jigs, tubes, heavy plastics) Bionic Blade 6'6" M with Chronarch 201 (Topwater) Bionic Blade 6'6" M with Chronarch 201 (Spinnerbait) Bionic Blade 7' MH with Chronarch 201 (multi purpose looking to replace rod) Bionic Blade 7' MH with Chronarch 201 (multi purpose looking to replace rod) Bass Pro Rick Clunn RC703 7' MH crankbait rod with Chronarch 201 (most all crankbaits)
  18. that tackle tour review on the megabass rod was classic- it's too bad the rod broke on the guy and they would not even replace it- definately not G Loomis service there and megabass rods are usually 450 and up!
  19. I read that you have bass pro Rick Clunn model rods- I have one and absolutely love it for crankbaits- it is model RCL703C a 7' MH rod- the tip on the rod is wonderful for crankbaits- must be doing something right because Clunn himself actually uses it for tourney fishing- I have seen it! I use a 2004 chronarch 201 reel and 12 to 15lb flourocarbon line with it- I use it for all of my cranks 1/4oz and up. Great rod- I highly recommend- it is even on sale right now for $59.00- I own $400 dollar rods and for crankbaits I would not trade out my RCL703C!
  20. I use left handed because before I used a baitcaster I used a spinning with my left hand retrieve- I found it to be an easy transition. I read somewhere that if most pros were to start all over they would go with left hand retrieve- they are just used to it because back in the day right handed baitcasters were all that was available- I read this a while back just can't remember where.
  21. pretty broad question but I will start it off and just see what guys are using for this specific technique- G-Loomis DSR822 Spinning Daiwa Fuego 2000 Seagar 6lb flourocarbon invisX mojo weights various 1/8 on up-
  22. drop shotting- G-Loomis DSR822 spinning with a Daiwa Fuego 2000 spinning reel and Seagar flourocarbon invisx 6lb line. A fist full of 1/8-3/8 mojo drop shot weights, and owner mesqito #4 hooks and a bag full of robo worm 4.5inch straight tails>>>it is up to you to figure out the color! this lone combo has done absolute wonders for me this year-
  23. yeah it goes across all different sports/hobbies- when I raced moto X, the guys that had all the aftermarket stuff and newest graphics and best gear- were never the "real" racers- they were there to be seen hardley ever raced. The real paid pros were usually the only real fast guys with the new gear because they did not have to pay for the expensive stuff. Fishing is a bit different (abviously) it is a lifetime sport- but I know a few guys with $50,000 boats rod a rod locker full of loomis' and they use the gear maybe 4 times a year! I do have a DSR852 spinning rod that I used all year long catching countless fish and consider it my "weapon of choice" if you will- I am not afraid to use it- I take care of it but I would not fish it any differently than I would $20.00 wal mart special- the same goes next year when I pull out my new BSR852 GLX with Fuego 3000 on it- I can't wait to use the hell outa that combo!
  24. oakley half jacket with polorized bronze lenses- great visibility I don't fish with out them
  25. IMO if you fish for bass they should be in your tackle box. they are great when conditions allow it-
