  1. I like at least one product from each of those companies- right now my faves are R.I. smallie beaver and Roboworms 4.5" straight tail- excellent baits, my go to baits... One not mentioned is netbait they have good stuff also- I own a lot of plastic baits as I am sure the rest of you guys do- I don't think I can walk out of a sporting goods store without a couple bags of baits...
  2. I just bought one in the MG Wakasagi color (kinda a metallic with purple on it)- what colors do you guys like???
  3. what hook did you use on this carolina rigged craw?
  4. Avid we have the same combo now- amazing how that reel feels and ohh so light in weight. That GLX 852 is a weapon all on its own. It is in the middle of winter here in Idaho everything is frozen over d**n. Give us a review of how it works out for ya
  5. good question- I have never put the green ones in yet even though they come with the reel. Someone tell us when you would use the green brakes???
  6. I have the DSR822 spinning- very nice rods. I guess the DSR820 GLX is one of the best drop shot rods ever made- that is saying a lot! ;D Loomis is the best-
  7. so at the end of the day what are you get'n? Bait monkey never plays nice!
  8. thats hella big for anything around here- but yeah a sturgeon rod or possibly salmon/steelhead...
  9. just got a kistler magnesium TS 6'9"med heavy- all purpose- says it is for senko's on the handle- personal preference though- I am going to use it for smallie beavers and spider grubs, have not used it yet but looks high end for 170 bucks-
  10. yeah really pricey- I just checked they are actually in stock the one I got- they are under "Bassart" 80bucks with 4 bearings- yeah I'd hate to buy 6 of them- It is very nice and turns it into an even better reel-
  11. Right here is where I got them http://www.brooklynbillstackleshop.com - 6 of them could get a lil expensive- and I believe they are lighter in weight.
  12. Don't be confused- it is a casting rod. Loomis makes them both spinning and casting. My dad has the very rod you are looking at. Very nice drop shot rod to I might add!
  13. my dad has the loomis dsr820 casting rod, the drop shot rod. I have used it- not bad but I like to fish my drop shot rig (which is loomis dsr822 spinning with a fuego 2000) with 4 and 6lb test- I find that very difficult with a baitcaster. If you are in love with baitcasting gear and have no problem casting them with light line and weights don't hesitate and tear it up- for me spinning gear please. ;D
  14. I have only used the pop-max and love it- have not tried any of the other stuff. I have not had a reason to try the other stuff- got the pop-max because it was proven- based upon the research I did. Before I buy an exotic (expensive) hardbait- I make sure it has a good reputation, hence a reason to give it a shot- so yeah pop-max is good- plus it is pretty hard to loose a popper type lure I am not saying it can't be done- just highly unlikely...
  15. be careful with the braid man- I have had the worst backlash in my life with braid- could just be me tho... Another tip is to release the spool physically pull off enough line for a long cast- get some tape- tape the line to the spool, reel in the line- now practice "when" not "if" you get your backlash it will only be as deep as the taped off portion of the spool. I still do this my 1st very long cast of the day I will place a piece of tape on the spool then reel in- that way I don't ruin a bunch of line and more importantly put one of my favorite combos outta comission for a tourney- but yeah I don't do that quite as much anymore but a very good tip for someone just starting out- sure saved me a lot of time and patience.
  16. so you want a reel for deep and shallow cranks- I use an older chronarch the one right before the newest chronarch- the gold one. It is 6.2:1 and works well for me- I throw the DD22's (deep) and the Rick clunn RC2.5's (shallow) with good success. Just slow it down a bit when you go deep- I am not sure what those reels go for now but I bet if you hunt around you can find a real deal hence ebay. You can cast those cranks a country mile with that reel.
  17. Check this gear out- http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e208/jetsprint2/100_0465.jpg BSR852 GLX with the Steez 2500 http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e208/jetsprint2/Picture.jpg Steez by itself http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e208/jetsprint2/100_0469.jpg Scorpion 1001mg with a carbon fiber handle by Bassart of Japan http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e208/jetsprint2/100_0467.jpg Close up of the handle- kinda a crappy pic sorry. But yeah been collecting this stuff for a bit thought I'd show it to ya. I know a few of ya wanna know about the Steez and it feels great in hand but I have honestly not had a chance to give it a try- I will keep ya updated though- Kinda hard to fish in Idaho during the winter LOL. :'( The carbon fiber handle was very easy to install on the scorpion not a big deal at all- I thought it was a must do- the scorpions come with a short, I mean very short handle- d**n near felt like reel'n a wing-nut LOL. ;D
  18. I would be willing to bet that revo reel is the same thing bass pro and cabelas has. I'd get the reel- don't let the quality issue bother yeah- the warranty will be the same.
  19. I bought a steez as well- put some seagar invisx- and totally go against the posse- LOL.
  20. can't go wrong with a st. croix/loomis/kistler: all great companies and products take your pick.
  21. I just bought a kistler mag 6'9" med hv all purpose rod- I get it next wed- I can't wait to pair it with my new Scorpion 1001 mg! should be a nice light combo-
  22. ahh, lightninrod- knows where to get the info! thanx it all makes sense now- That is kinda how I thought it was but now I know-
  23. I agree with redlinerrobert- G Loomis GLX spinning rods now come with titanium guides- that is not cutting back or saving costs- plus the GLX price has been pretty much the same for the last 5 yrs.
  24. Ok so I just got the Scorpion new last week- I have not used it yet but I am not sure how to set up the brake system. I am very familiar with the traditional shimano baitcasters- push in or out the brakes. On the scorpion there is an external max to min dial with 4 clicks on it and it also has the same side case open to get to 3 brakes like the other traditional shimano's. So if you know please help guide me in some direction on how to set this thing up- I don't even want to try without a little guidence- the instructions are all Japanesse. So far I think the brakes are a major adjustment and the dial is to fine tune the brake adjustment... so yeah a little help please-
  25. I thought the kevin vandamn quantum reel was a pretty good deal for 69 bucks outta basspro- has a flip switch on it- very heavy tho.
