  1. Yeah you’re prob right I guess I just sort of thought they were supposed to load up more on casts. No I’m saying it isn’t loading up when casting baits over an ounce.
  2. Sorry I know I’ve hammered this endlessly but with all of the posts I’ve made on this subject I figure I’d give a review. The good: Extremely light and comfortable to hold, solidly built rod with high quality components. Good length as well. The bad: Although it casts “ok” it simply does not load up on the backswing like it probably should for these heavier (1-3 oz) baits. It has a bit of an airy yet stiff, lifeless feel. Is there any Swimbait rod you might recommend that is truly moderate and offers more parabolic bend for loading up and launching these baits (like the 795 perhaps) or do I need to step out of the Swimbait rod lines and into something lighter possibly to achieve this? Or am I misreading this and it is plenty moderate, and I don’t want too much parabolic bend? Thanks! https://www.irodfishing.com/category-s/148.htm
  3. Pretty incredible action for the price, I honestly think it looks better in the water than the twice as expensive Bull Shad. Much more alluring and lifelike slither.
  4. I have heard several people suggest it is a waste of time to float this time of year as the fish are so concentrated, leaving long stretches of dead water. Instead they focus on specific holes, particularly low head dams and work them over rather than spend an entire day floating a 5-8 mile stretch with only intermittent hot spots.
  5. So I’ll be the first to admit when I am wrong, and I’m always seeking good advice so I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for steering me in the right direction. Received the 13 Fishing 5’6” Panfish/Trout rod and I am now thinking it may even be a touch too long. Do most people opt for 5’ or should I try to make this 5.5 work?
  6. There seem to be mixed schools of thought on this. Some insist they absolutely stay in and around their winter holes, which often double as spawning areas, until after the spawn. Others swear they completely abandon them and go as far as they need to in order to find good current to feed in. I’m not experienced enough yet to know which is really accurate.
  7. I’m seeing a pretty even mix of positive and negative. Which were you referring to? A lot of people on their deriding their stiffness/lifelessness and talking about how they offer very little parabolic bend for swimbaits.
  8. Tbh I only use fluro for leader material on my finesse setup, I just don’t like how it feels or casts as a main line and how brittle it is. You get one nick or some minor fray you lose a trophy or a $20 lure.
  9. Yeah that makes sense, I was sort of leaning that direction too. Thanks!
  10. With how clear and shallow these streams are, would I benefit from the low visibility of fluro or is the “invisibility” factor overstated and makes minimal difference, and the abrasion resistance of mono is more important?
  11. Yeah always wade upstream if possible. When floating I make long casts and try to be as quiet as I can, but on clear days I’m sure they can see me and I’ve spooked half the fish before I even get to the hole.
  12. Yeah that is probably why creek fish are so spooky, they’re basically sitting ducks. People act like creek fishing is so easy, and it may be as far as picking apart holes but that’s only half the battle. Once you find the fish you still gotta get them to eat.
