  1. Yeah looks like they also offer a heavy but it only goes up to 2 oz, does that matter if I’m planning on using it for baits over 2 oz?
  2. What about this, is 7’4” too short for that strength to produce the desired parabolic bend for treble hooked baits? Also how much better is the Champion than the falcon quality/balance wise? I am fishing from a kayak and would prefer something in the 7’4-7’6 range and I like the split grip, seems most dedicated swim rods are broomsticks with long full cork/Eva handles.
  3. Lol you left out which rod you went with? How long does the rod have to be to produce said parabolic bend?
  4. It appears that even the heaviest “normal” casting rods only go up to 1.5 oz weight limits. Some of my swimbaits (Deps 145, Jackal Gantia, 5” Bull shad) are under 2 oz but several (6” Bull Shad, Chad Shad) are over 2 oz and feel like too much for my HF Mojo. When browsing rods it seems that only the dedicated “swimbait” rods have ranges that extend beyond 1.5 oz, for example the medium powered Champion XP goes from 2-5 oz. Can I throw these 2+ oz baits on a 7’4” Champion HP mag heavy (1/4-1.5 oz) or is it going to be a lot easier and less stress on the blank with a swimbait rod?
  5. How about in regards to my power rating question?
  6. Currently both casting setups are Mojo Bass. 7’ MHMF cranking that I use for cranking, top water, spinnerbaits/Chatterbaits and jerk baits. 7’4” HF swimbait Looking to possibly upgrade, weighing the pros and cons. People seem to love Dobyns for casting, I’m just concerned about them being noticeably heavier. Also I’ve heard their power ratings are off (under 1) so why is the Fury swimbait rod only a Medium Heavy? Isn’t that the equivalent of a medium in other brands, and don’t you want at least a heavy for swimbaits? I’m mostly going to be throwing 1-2 oz 6” baits. Would the Champion XP be a solid upgrade in your opinion?
  7. Just ordered a Ghost Scale Minnow Gantia. Think it will work well for river smallies?
  8. Nice, so none of the Bull Shads are ideal for anything over 3’?
  9. So if that’s the case does the 6” stay down much more appropriately or is the fast sink necessary?
  10. I recently got a 5” slow sink and took it for a test spin today. I found that it not only rises quickly, but upon trying to slow my retrieve it doesn’t produce the desired action at all and just sort of goes straight without the side to side slither. Is it possible I was doing something wrong or are you supposed to burn it and this is the reason why the 6” is the standard, and the necessary weight to keep it down on the required fast retrieve? I considered trying the fast sinking but that sounds like heartbreak losing a $50 bait. Swimbait setup - 7’4” Heavy Mojo, Shimano Curado K 8.5:1, 15 lb Seaguar Invisx.
  11. It seems 3600 style boxes are not deep enough to hold anything over 5”, they are mostly too fat profiled for the box to close w those trebles. I would prefer something smaller than a 3700 box to take in my bag on my kayak. How many of these type of baits do you generally bring on a spring/fall trip? I would think 4 should be plenty, if you lose four $50+ baits that’s a bad day ?
  12. I’m relatively new to winter fishing, but from what I have gathered deeper (5-8’) holes out of current but with current nearby, and rock structure. Are there any other key giveaways? Thx!
  13. And this stuff works better than powder paint for you?
  14. Interesting, I find July and August to be decent months but nothing really compares to spring and fall for aggressiveness in large (18+”) fish.
  15. Not a conspiracy theory, maybe wild speculation lol? I was obviously wrong but just trying to understand.
  16. Do you want them to be super snug or a little bit of wiggle room? My current pair is fairly snug, almost uncomfortable however I already went up two + sizes to a 13. I wear a 10.5/11 wide, do I need wider boots or do I just need to bump it up another half size? I’m just worried if I go too much bigger they will be too long, my toes are already an inch + from the tip.
  17. Exactly. I can’t count how many times I’ve been blown out of a juicy spot before I could even get a cast off. Anchor wizard helps but there’s something to be said for focusing on one hole, picking it to pieces.
  18. I have fly fished for trout in Montana, but since I began bass fishing passionately have almost exclusively kayak/bank fished. I have wet waded while kayak fishing, but there is something special about gearing up and being completely waterproof, immersing yourself right in a fishing hole and silently stalking your prey. I have a feeling this will be competing with my kayak for most enjoyable fishing experience. Both are important tools to have in your arsenal, and a combination is obviously the best approach. Wading just allows you to get into tight spots that even your kayak cannot reach. Something about being waist deep in a river that is rushing beneath you and hooking into an 18” smallmouth is exhilarating. ???
  19. Hard body jointed swim baits, particularly glide baits have exploded in popularity in recent years since their arrival from Japan on the west coast 10-15 years ago. I have noticed in searching for higher quality handmade glides made by small companies the trend of them being “sold out” of certain colors or altogether. I realize the supply chain issues from Covid hit Asian countries especially hard, but this seems to be a consistent pattern across all manufacturers. Are they creating artificial demand by making less of them? It sure seems that way, but I don’t know about the supply chain.
