  1. What about the zako do you suppose elicits more strikes? Are there any elaztech or equivalent trailers that are effective, ie Zman Turbo Crawz? What about Zoom Z Craw Jr?
  2. Unfortunately w the Z Craw they bite them in half, very fragile.
  3. I currently use the Z Craw Jr. but I’m growing tired of replacing them every fish. I would like to use an Elaztech craw profile but not sure if Turbo Crawz would be as productive or good of a fit as the Z Craw. They look a bit too big of a profile, Z Craw fits perfectly on a regular bladed jig. If not is there a better elaztech option? What about the Hella Craw? I am pretty set on a craw profile. I’ve seen people swear by certain trailers and that they elicit more strikes with their action, I’m not sure how much validity there is to it but I’m hoping little to none as I would like to just set it and leave it.
  4. I keep hearing this, but I just have not experienced it unless the river is rising or it is overcast, rainy etc. I think the same rules apply, that other than first and last light it’s finesse or topwater (if it’s cloudy/shaded.) I should mention I’m in a humid subtropical climate where summer water temps hang in the upper 70s-low 80s so I understand there is some variance.
  5. I’m sort of tempted to see what all the fuss is about. Currently only use braid on my finesse rig, but I am wondering if using it on my “do everything” workhorse setup wouldn’t give me better casting distance. I mostly throw walking baits, whopper ploppers, jackhammers cranks and spinnerbaits on this combo but struggle to get distance with many lures unless they are heavy. Which line do recommend, and what lb test? St Croix Victory 7’2” MHMF Shimano Curado XGK
  6. So then what is the ideal length for a leader? So then what is the ideal length for a leader?
  7. Currently use 10 pound Sunline FC leader material, via Alberto to 10 pound Suffix 832 in high vis green. 6’10” MLXF St Croix LTB. Recently I have been reevaluating my approach, Both in response to the late season clarity and increasing pressure on my local river. I am wondering if downsizing to 8 pound Invisx could potentially yield more bites? My only concern is the risk of break offs, is this significant or would the benefits greatly outweigh the positives? I should mention I also throw a tube and a fluke on this set up, so it would come at the cost of increased sink rate on fluke & potentially less forgiveness on cracking/hookset with tube. What is your experience?
  8. I’ve seen a wide range from 30 lb fluro to 100 lb steel, with some saying any more than 30 impacts action and others that less than 70 you’ll get broke off. There are some large pike and muskie in this lake, and although unlikely to hook one I’d hate to lose it.
  9. Sorry, edited 😂 Texoma? My dad cannot use a baitcaster What about a 7’3” MHF? Is 30 lb fluro really heavy enough? I was thinking like 60+.
  10. My dad does not know how to use a baitcaster and we are going to Canada. What will happen if a 2500 sized reel is used, could it strip the gears or not have beefy enough drag to handle/fight the fish? I’m just wondering if I really need to buy a reel for 3-4 day trip. Obviously your odds of running into many trophy sized pike or muskie are not great, but when it happens I want to be prepared.
  11. There seems to be quite a bit of variance in the definition of “creek,” from small tributaries you can float, many of which have river in the name all the way down to “dry run” type runoff’s and drainage ditches. I am referring to something in the middle but closer to the latter, inches deep and small enough to walk across at most points but with enough deep pockets to hold 10-15” bass occasionally. The “cricks” you played in as a kid flipping rocks for crawdads. Most of these little streams dry up pretty severely in the summer when the rain slows up, my question is do they stop producing mostly? On one hand more water generally = more activity, better fishing. In streams this tiny, however this can make it very difficult to find the holes. Is this important, or do you want these levels so they can come out of the holes and move about freely, or will they generally stay in or around those deeper areas?
  12. Yeah 20 gauge is very difficult to work with even with pliers, I’m guessing you have 22.
  13. Would heat shrink not work? I tried the 20 gauge wire, found it very difficult to wrap around the bend.
  14. So for slow rolling in a 5’ river with current what weight would you use?
  15. What diameter do you use? Did you ever try using a light gauge craft wire?
  16. I use 10 lb Suffix 832 high viz green to an 8-10 ft 10 lb Sunline FC Leader. Unless there is some other benefit, I know there is an inversely proportionate relationship between line diameter and sink rate. So for me, while I catch plenty of fish on Ned/tube I’m wondering if I might not do even better downsizing?
