would it be safe to say then that if I have a heavy swimbait I would need the power of a lower reel ratio? or does the ratio does'nt have anything to do with the weight of the lure?

I recently put 30lb test braided line on a spinning reel and used it for my texas rig and spinner baits. I had been using mono and the difference is great. I liked the way it casts and how it sinks much faster than mono, no memory and no ugly coils after I cast my lure. I was wondering what other lures would be best to use the braided or flouro line with and if dropshooting is an ideal technic, using maybe 10lb test for it?

Thanks for the help guys, I am all for learning and having fun also. I tought you had to reel fast for the crankbaits to get deep and the texas rig had to be a slow moving bait, do I have this wrong?

I am the dumb question designee for the week and here I go: I notice on the baitcasting reels there are numbers like 6.2:1 and 5:1. I know it has to do with the speed of the reel or how much line it will retrive per turn but don't know which ones will be faster, the 6.2:1 or the 5:1? Also what applications is a fast reel needed and the same for slow retrive? I think the crackbaits will need to be fast and the worms should be slower, but "slow and fast" is relative too. Can you help me out? Thanks

I think the most inconsiderate and rude people in the water have to be the jet skiers, numerous times the just come flying by me and mess with me, or come around a corner where they can't see me and almost slam themselves on me. Other fisherman are usually nice and respectfull in my area.

I had the same concerns this past spring, I live in Arizona and I have seen snakes in the ponds and canals. I still went ahead and got a one man pontoon, I sit out of the water and the only part of my body that is in the water is my feet up half way to my knee. I know some tubes can also sit you high like that. I was told that snakes don't come near me and so far it is true. I have a great time tubing around where bass boats cannot go or in small ponds. I say don't worry about the animals you mention, snakes are also in ground and fish don't come near you because you need to be re-adjusting you position every so often, (I use fins also) so you are moving your feet most of the time you are in the water. Enjoy yourself and get a big bass!!

Hello everybody, I am a new member and also a new bass fisherman, my previous fishing experience has been catfishing but I feel it is time I try catching bass. Got a baitcasting rod and reel and a Texas rig setup from one of the local guys here and I am ready to hit the water this weekend. Any advice for this newbee?
