  1. Thanks for the responses. I never considered moving to a lighter weight. I'm using a 3/8 for no other reason than, that's what most of my jigs are. I can see some new tungsten in my future...lol. "Hook sets are free"...Good point...Lol. Thanks again for the responses! -J
  2. So, I've been hitting my spot when weather permits. I've been throwing a Texas rigged crawl in either pumpkin or blue/black. Throw, wait for the craw to settle, and bounce it back. Pretty simple, right? Or is it? Rocks, logs, branches, downed vegetation. All of things may present as a fish taking hold of the bait. Is there a secret to slow rolling these baits? Any suggestions? My method is working but I'm wondering how many I miss. Thanks, -J
  3. A mod fast graphite = a fast composite rod?
  4. So I could, theoretically, get a moderate fast graphite and it would be the same?
  5. OK...So I'm looking at 2 cranking rods. One is the Lew's David Fritts and the other is the BPS cranking stick. Now, I've read and read and read some more and one thing that sticks out is you want a slower tip, Mod Fast or Moderate. Today I'm looking at these two rods and it occurs to me that the BPS rod is nothing but Fast. If most everyone says you should have a slower tip, why would the BPS be fast? Is the fast tip a deal breaker on the BPS? Should I go with the Lew's? Does anyone have other recommendations in the same price range? I don't fish cranks all that much but I'd like to have the right gear when I do. And if I do, it's usually shallow to medium cranks. Whats the word, help a cranking newbie out. Thanks!! -J
  6. Listen to the BB stacker...lol. Thanks for your service, brother. -J
  7. Bought a Tourney MB last year and fished it exclusively on a daily basis. I have to say, it's a great reel. Smooth casting and retrieval and, it will cast anything. I've had people ask what kind of reel I was using because of how well I was tossing a toad. Bought a Super Duty to use on my frog pole this year. I was able to get out and throw it a bit before the pond froze and it's just as smooth as the MB. These reels may break down in the next year or two but I'd be surprised. They perform so well!
  8. Dammit...Didn't know that I needed to put my screen name on the paperwork...lol. oh well. -J
  9. I have both a Falcon Buccoo and a St Croix Mojo Bass in MH and the Falcon is MUCH lighter than the St Croix. Love em both but the Falcon is definitely lighter.
  10. I really can't help you out but I'm in Oregon, OH and wouldn't mind participating as a non boater. Have you gotten anythkng worked out?
  11. Thanks for the insight, @Boogey Man. I've got plenty of decent reels so this may have to play third string...Lol.
  12. USAF '92-'02 Minot AFB '92-'95 ElmEndoRf AFB '95-'02 Aircraft Armament Systems Thanks to all that have served or continue to serve!
  13. That's what I'm afraid of, @Goose52...Lol.
  14. Is it that bad? 30 views and no comments...Lmao!! -J
  15. Earlier I mentioned that a buddy had this reel nib. Yesterday I finally picked it up and I'm not wowed by the reel. It appears to be plastic and the rubberized surfaces are tacky. This particular model was made in Sweden. My question is this...it could certainly benefit from a good cleaning and oiling. It's been in a plastic sealed box for years and is most likely gummed. Should I drop the cash on having it tuned and cleaned? The last issue is I've read that most reel guys are reluctant to work on these reels because of the planatery gearing system. If you believe it's worth salvaging, do you know of anyone that works on em? Thanks for any input. -J
  16. Sorry, @S. Sass, I didn't mean to let the secret out but man, these reels are incredible! I also have the Tourney MB and wasn't sure it could get better than it but this reel is incredible.
  17. Got this reel yesterday, spooled it with Sufix 50# braid and put it on my Mojo Bass MH rod. Today I walked out to the pond to get it wet and all I can say is, OMG! This reel is amazing! Smooth casting for a country mile. Well put together and pairs amazingly well with that rod. If you're considering a Lew's reel, don't hesitate. This is my second and I'm thinking there will be more to come!! -J
  18. I think he said it was a 3600c. -J
  19. So, a friend of mine says he has an Ambassador 3600 baicaster, nib, that he's never used. He asked if I want it. Apparently it's a 6.3:1. Anyone have experience w this reel? If so, what's your experience and can it be used for bass? Thanks, -J
  20. Thanks, gents. I was conflicted on the reel speed because I've read people say they bought the 6.x:1 and 7.1:1 for more cranking power. I have a Tourney MB 7.5:1 that I love and have never had an issue w so I figured I might as well step up a bit. Anyway, thanks again for the input. It's definitely put my mind at ease. -J
  21. Pulled the trigger on it. They didn't have one in store at BPs so it was bought based on reviews and comments. Hope they were right...Lol -J
  22. Well, I've decided to pull the trigger on a Lew's Super Duty for a frog pole I'm putting together. But, I do have one question...Do I get the 8:1 or the 7.1:1? Thoughts? Thanks, -J
  23. Just bought a St Croix Mojo Bass and the heard about Dobyns Fury. From my reading, it kind of seems like it's a Chevy Ford type issue. Guess I'll get a Dobyns next year...Lol. -J
  24. It's like when I was a kid leading through the JC Penney catalog!
