  1. Looking to get some braid for my dropshot/smallmouth setup. Most spools come in either 125 or 300 yards. 125 yards doesn't seem enough to completely spool my reel and 300 yards will cost you around 30$. Not going to be going through a lot if it because I'll have a leader so 300 yards isn't really necessary. Thoughts?
  2. I use a medium and it seemed over kill until I hooked into a 2+ pounder and I thought a musky t-boned my smallie?
  3. A lot of times in lakes and ponds that's very true, but for some reason river smallies turn on in hot weather. Caught my 3 biggest smallies in 95 degree + weather.
  4. Only thing I'm worried about is burning crank bait because that's one of my most productive methods but it pits a good bend in the rod for medium action rods...
  5. I'm talking about the lake Michigan Tributaries as well. I believe they move to the opening of the river, but that's just a theory. As summer went on they moved closer and closer to the lake. All of my spots further down river were completely dry
  6. Regardless, the extra spool with be useful when trying to travel light. No need for two rods, one with flouro and one with mono. I can finesse fish and topwater. However when a smallie nearly de-spools you, the braid will slip making it nearly impossible to land the fish. The braid spool gives it the line an anchor point.
  7. Never really tried tubes, next year I'll give em a try.
  8. I need a new smallmouth creek setup. Looking to buy a Lew's speed spin spinning reel. It comes with a braid spool and a regular spool. On the braid spool, with 10 lb braid backing and 8 lb fluorocarbon leader, and the regular spool with mono for topwater. Is medium light too light for the rod? Some big smallies 3lbs + Thoughts?
  9. Always thought 5inches were a little big for smallies. Thanks for the great tip!
  10. Everyone has their own opinion on perfect Senko size for smallmouth. 5,4,3. In. Opinions?
  11. I don't believe it's the baits that you are using, it's the time if year. The hottest days of the year in July-August will be your best action. Especially in a drought. You can catch them on anything during those time periods. Already look forward to next smallie season. Good luck and tight lines
  12. What time do they usually migrate to rivers and creeks?
  13. Ok thanks, is the baby more of a big fish bait or do you catch smaller fish on it?
  14. Is the tiny too big? Seems pretty massive when I look up pictures online
  15. My best luck has been on KVD 1.0 but hoping to try zoom tiny flukes on a drop shot, sounds like it would work..
  16. Cheap 75 cent popper from Walmart. I believe it's made by crème lures. Change out the hooks and it works just as well as the 6 dollar tiny popper by Rebel
  17. Not sure why, but in Wisconsin smallie fishing in fall is non existent. Especially in creeks in rivers. Maybe water temp is an issue..?
  18. I'm the hottest days of summer, smallmouth fishing is my life. In southern Wisconsin creeks and rivers have some of the best fishing, especially for Smallmouth. As the temp gets lower, so does the amount of fish. During fall the fishing is non existent. Not sure why other places smallmouth fishing is peaking in the fall, but plummeting for me
