  1. I don't have the pro but I do have a slayer 12.I use it mostly for fishing shallow rivers where I can't get my boat. I love it. The seat is very comfortable. It's easy to customize because of the tracks stable ,I can stand in mine but I don't fish standing.o fish with the seat in the high position and never feel like I'm gonna tip.
  2. I just use small bullet weights or egg sinkers I like to rig mine with a ' Carolina keeper' which lets the weight slibe. like a mini Carolina rig without the heavy sinker glass bead etc. I usually use 1/16 or 1/8 weights.
  3. Darren for lakes the trolling motor setup you have should be fine.my problem in the river is when I have to paddle upstream in shallow rapids I can't have the weight of that battery.been looking at the torqueedo for years the dam things are expensive!! But the motor plus the atak (which is made to make torqueedo installation very easy) for that price I just couldn't turn down. Hey it's still cheaper than a 30 k dollar jet boat!
  4. Living in PA less than an hour from the Susquehanna it is my favorite summertime playground.my 16 foot tracker grizzly uses either a 20hp mercury or two fifty pound Minn kotas depending on which lake I'm fishing.neither of these do well in the shallow Rocky flows of the susky.I usually fish it from a kayak but paddling upstream on single spot put its can be tough on this powerful river.so I just pulled the trigger on a 14 ft atak with a torqueedo ultralight for 2500. My plan is to use the motor to go upstream raising it when I need to paddle through shallows then lowering when it gets deeper.I'm pretty excited!!
  5. Get the avid x way better of,and for finesse applications the extra sensitivity will be worth it.
  6. someone will probably post a link but, get on youtube, type in ned kedhe Midwest finesse retrieves . he gives a whole tutorial
  7. the erie darters are deadly on a drop shot. also Darren your a finesse fisherman don't be afraid to put them on a light weedless jighead like the zman power shroomz and swim the slowly around cover. somethimg different... and deadly.
  8. I have both of those rods.I use the ltb as my lighter plastics rod and the avid for jigs and heavier plastics.I actually like the mtb for spinnerbaits too because it has a little more tip which allows me to underhand a spinnerbaits, although I have a 68 med Ltb as my main spinnerbait rod.
  9. 10" ribbon tail worm texas rigged on deep weed edges is probably my #1 producer on hot summer dog days. especialy once the sun comes up and the shallow weed bite dies.
  10. tome ,and its only my opinion.until you get to the glx you are better off buying something besides loomis at that price point.i used to have a rack full of gl3s. I bought one st.croix avid and ended up selling the loomis and buying all avids or legend tournaments. I now have 7 legend tournaments and 2 avids. don't get me wrong loomis makes a great rod but I just feel I get more for my money with other rods until you get to about the$400 point. which im not willing to pay for a single rod.
  11. funny you say that smalljaw I fish the Susquehanna aton and thought the easy shiner was gonna be a killer but I don't catch anywhere near the number of fish on them that I do the swing impact fat.could be just a confidence thing formebut its definetly noticeable.
  12. I fish the susky a lot I live about 45 minutes from it.I simply can't justify a 40k dollar jet boat for the amount of time I get to fish.I fish out of a kayak 90percent of the time and my prop boat the other ten.although it can be a lot of work from the kayak I truly enjoy it the most.drifting down the river watching a summer sunset catching 20" smallies on a topwaterr is about as good as it gets.and yes it is hard on your equipment boat, kayak, even shoes and your body.some days I feel beat up when I get off the river.but that's what keeps some of the less serious guys off the water.
  13. in-fisherman is the only fishing magazine I find useful. and yeas I still like a print magazine.Im still not sure this computer thing is gonna last. lol
  14. hmm if they are very soft I may give them a shot. especially the swimbaits I think the softer ones swim better even though they aren't very durable. I don't see a way to order direct on their website and no dealers near me. any tips guys?
  15. I own several avids and at that price point I don't think you can beat them.I own more expensive rods but again at that price point... and yes I would go with the 7medium over the 69 mlxf.I own that one too and its good for wacky rigs etc but I just feel it's a little light in the tip when you need to bear down a little.also the med makes a good rod for light texas rigs.
  16. Try a z man fluke style bait.they float like a cork! When you stop them and give them a little slack they will rise towards the surface.
  17. I need to get better at deep water fishing, and using electronics.I had a new sonar with GPS and mapping coming .also more study and understanding where fish go And how they move in my lakes seasonally.
  18. Whichever I think I need to put fish in the boat. I love fishing spinnerbaits and traps but with a lot of clear deep waters and pressured fish around here I find finesse or power firmness usually produces more fish for me.
  19. Ah I see.yeah I think one card with several lakes will be just fine.lol
  20. yeah I think just for simplicity ill get a different card for each lake. do I need a special card or just a micro sd?
  21. I'm glad I waited.the g2 helix 7 has autochart live which is great for me since some off the small lakes I fish aren't mapped.
  22. hmm just researched the garmins a little bit on line. looks like exactly what im looking for .ill have to add them to the list of units to check out.thanks scott.
  23. I can't comment on the Fenwick but I have as legend tournament bass,6 10" drop shot rod that I love.I leave just south of you in York county and fish the susky a lot and this rod will handle almost anything I fish on the river with a spinning rod.
  24. Ah ok that's kinda what I thought wayne.thanks .also im kinda torn between the helix and the lowrance hook 5 . I understand the lowrance has similar capabilities anybody have any input on which they prefer. I was leaning toward the helix because a friend of mine who is pretty knowledgeable has one and I figured he could guide me .
  25. tanks turtle .yeah I know the live version is not available on the 7 but from what I understand you can chart to a micro sd then plug it into a pc with software that will convert to a map that can then be reloaded on the card into the unit.the live feature would be grat but I don't wanna spend that kind of $$
