  1. I work backseat almost all of the time. Both of my usual boaters don't worry about center line so much as crossing them up. I am also quick to jump up front if I need to if there is a fish boated or my boater is re-tying. We work together, even on tournaments like this past Sunday when we were competing against each other. Is it frustrating sometimes when you get blocked from a good piece of cover? No doubt. But are there other quadrants to fish other than that one 99% of the time. Sometimes though, you just have to wait a minute to get an angle. (or learn a different way to get a lure under something)
  2. fished Marshyhope creek for the first time yesterday, I never did get a fish into the boat, but it was a beautiful day to be on the water. The gf's stepdad went along, he took 2nd in the tournament with 2 fish, apparently it was a brutal day for everyone. We saw a beaver, and a couple of bald eagles, but it's hard to get a good pic at 60+ mph or when you have a fishing rod in your hand... the wind was pushing up river, so the tide never got right (is what I was told anyway) I did figure out that I can skip a Bizzbait Pad Daddy under a bridge using a baitcaster, now that is fun stuff. The look on my fishing partner's face the third or fourth time I did it was priceless
  3. last name is Miller, 349 was the telephone exchange where I grew up, and I've used millertime349 as an email address for 20+ years... shortened it up for a login name years ago, and '79 is also the year I was hatched.
  4. I've had my eye on this one for a bit... pretty good price and free shipping. http://www.sportsmansoutfitters.com/daiwa-tatula-freshwater-baitcast-fishing-rods/ I even sent the link to my gf when she asked what I wanted for father's day. She told me not to mess with the packages that came in the mail Tuesday, and there was no rod tube so I'm 99.99999% sure that I'm not getting one of these... However, last week on the way to my pool tournament we stopped by a tackle shop to bs for a few and Kelly picked up one of the nearly completed custom rods and said "if you brought home something that looked like this I couldn't even be mad". I think I will take that little nugget and put it into my back pocket for a while. Ken looked over at me when she said it and just smiled, we've been talking about a build for me for a while now, so it's coming (sometime). Now I just have to nail down the specifics.
  5. hi there...
  6. the camera usually adds weight. I would say 2 1/2 give or take 1/2 lb.
  7. the honey do list got a bit shorter yesterday... the joys of home ownership.
  8. was able to get out to a local (very) small pond yesterday morning. I got hung up on a laydown on the far side of the pond, so I took a walk in the woods. I came out to the bank and there was this silver Pop-R. Two steps down the bank was the second one. Nice to find something other than ticks for a change.
  9. I've used sizes 2-2/0 for wacky senkos, (mainly gamakatsu weedless finesse wide gap) I have not seen a verifiable difference in hookups across that range.
  10. US Army. Sometimes I still wonder if I should have stayed in, but life works itself out, and I am blessed.
  11. A deal... I am crossing my fingers about father's day... sent you a pm
  12. Proud papa. My boy made it through high school, and with all grades in the 90's! Now, get a job, and a haircut...
  13. if you have about 1-1.5 ft from the surface to vegetation you could try a bladed jig (chatterbait) running fast enough to keep it just above the grass or just touching it from time to time. Or really slow down a floating crank to keep it above the grass. I'm assuming that you are bank fishing, but try to cast out more parallel to the shore. You say some of your bites are right at the end of your retrieve, so trying to keep the whole retrieve within ten feet of the bank may work.
  14. yep, but I get a bit overwhelmed looking at rods at bps or cabella's (we don't have academy here). You seem to have a good idea what you are looking for, so you should be fine. There you can get a feel for what you're buying, and the "expert help" can narrow things down for you as well.
  15. from what I have seen, yes. But I have not fished the Veritas line personally.
  16. don't overthink yourself, there are some really good general purpose rods out there (already mentioned). I personally use my two Abu Vendetta 7' M/F for way more things than what the "guidelines" say. Mainly for spinnerbaits, bladed jigs, and buzzbaits, and it works great for those. Since I put the 7.0 reel on it, I have grabbed the one more often and used it for darn near everything. Is it ideal for my shallow cranks? No. Does it work? Yes. I have pulled cranks out of several fish's mouths by human error (getting excited and over-setting the hook on them), but with single hook moving baits it is just about right. Knowing what you have in your hand and making it work for you is the key, not what the interwebs say this rod is good for. A fishing rod is a tool, knowing the limitations of said tool is the key, but the feel in your hand is what you need, not everyone's experience will be the same.
  17. Maybe in the case of some of the channels it is different, I have only watched a few here and there because of searches for certain techniques. But if I was Disney (for one) I would not want my advertisement on a channel that on one particular episode the "characters" trespass on Disney property to fish. Just my .02 I'm all for watching/learning about fishing, but when illegal/unethical activity is shown, they should lose all revenue from it. If the goal/justification of the shenanigans is youth interest in the sport, these kids don't need any more "role model" encouragement to do illegal activities than they already have.
  18. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MT04AH5/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I9XNBRGEZJIQN&colid=ZDZ15269F6YU&th=1 Amazon has 125 o-rings for $8 (Prime) or the tool included for $15
  19. I didn't try these yet, well sort of. I asked about them, and they brought me out a little cup of the sauce to try, so I was dipping my mango habanero wings in it. Very delicious, but very (very, very) hot.
  20. since I didn't have a tournament on Sunday, she took me out to the Phillies game. Tony Luke's cheese steak, and a couple of brews on a beautiful afternoon. I'll take it.
  21. I agree with this, and once they get a little bit of experience casting maybe put on a whopper plopper 90. We did this with my brother's young one, and she was so fascinated by the sound it made that it kept her occupied with it for a couple of hours, then there was a blowup on it, the squeal from her... (she is a bit older than 5 however, 8 I think)
  22. this... not sure at the other "local" parks, but CBP has Hatfields, which are great. There is something about a dog at a baseball game. And of course with yellow mustard and sauerkraut, all other toppings are just wrong.
  23. stop guys. please. It matches my KK Stealth to the point that I sent my gf the link on sportsmans outfitters (she asked what I wanted for fathers day). I can't take it any more. I ordered a KK assassin Wednesday to replace my black max that's acting up, so my fishing budget can't take any more (this week).
  24. I do as well, in fact I just was checking my order on Amazon for a wiring adapter for my truck and started to buy another baitcaster because it came with free sunglasses. Lucky for me the monkey was shot down by the LH reels being out of stock. When the girlfriend asks why... (I have a problem with sunglasses, almost worse than baits) The boxes work, but can be repetitive with some baits, so start with simply buying a 21' boat then match the price of that with tackle to fill it, and the garage, and the attic, and the lawnmower shed, and the barn... @connorwallin if you get down into Delaware this summer, shoot me a pm. I have some "leftovers" (read Baitmonkey feed) that you are more than welcome to take home with you. I think my overflowing box of soft plastics in the truck (not the ones in the plano's or plastics bag) could be put to better use than just riding around with me.
  25. The gf and I were able to slip away for a few minutes on Wednesday and wet a line... Her first fish with her new rod and reel, and my first whopper plopper 90 fish:
