Post Cold Front
So you go to a "spot" and randomly cast? I establish a pattern with my electronics before I make a cast. I look for fish and fish for them when I find them. Then I check similar areas to see if fish are there. If they are, I try to catch them, if none are there, I go somewhere else with like features. THAT is pattern fishing. I don't waste my time randomly casting where there are no fish. Yup that works quite well. I've had a somewhat slow year with only 1,666 bass so far. I had caught about 2,300 bass by this time last year. How is the " spot" fishing working for you?

Post Cold Front
I don't change anything, just catch more in a single location than when they are roaming more pre-cold front. I don't fish "spots", I fish patterns.

Deep Water/ Thermocline Fishing
Bass will go below the top of the thermocline for short periods. The first image shows a school of bass that I must have scared by passing over them-the baitfish school is still above the thermocline. The top of the thermocline is about 17' and the cover is an unknown object about 6'-8' tall and a 10' triangle shape. The next pass over the object they had moved away from it and about 1 minute later they were on the surface and I caught some of then with a topwater presentation.

Deep Water/ Thermocline Fishing
No illustration, but actual fishing conditions. I caught some of the bass that are where the temp readout is. Simple and easy pattern for bodies of water that have a thermocline.

All variable speed motors of recent vintage have pulse modulation. Motor Guide calls theirs "Digital Variable Speed"

Good products for the 2D market. A 5" display with a 2D unit is plently. Only the very first vertical row of screen pixels is current data, the rest of the screen is just recorded history. Nothing to dislike with their units.- 3 replies

Lowrance in made in Mexico, not China.- Help With Humminbird Unit
There is a mount system that is stronger than the plastic transom mount that comes with those transom transducers. It is the SBB-3 from Transducer Shield and Saver. To make it more sturdy, change the mount arm to the solid non-tripping type (MHX XNTF) to use with the SBB-3.- Help With Humminbird Unit

Take slonezp's advice and check out both systems. Choose the one that suits you and one that you will take the time to learn how to completely operate. I chose Humminbird Side Imaging for its fishability primarly as well as for a search tool. I use them at the console and bow.- Jet Black Woodchuck/groundhog

- Braided Line Vs. Rod Eyelet Wear?
BS, Stren Super Braid has a slick finish is not as rough as original Power Pro. Remember a superline is basically plastic and plastic is not harder than rod guides. Silica is harder than most guides and that is what gets imbedded in braided fibers and does the cutting of the guides. The more one fishes in dirty water, the higher the possiblility of guide erosion. Either Dyneema or Spectra are the two fibers used in current superlines. Do a web search for both products.- Best Time To Buy Electronics?
The whole deal with the sale prices is shop at a marine electronics dealer instead of a big box general sporting goods place like Bass Pro or Cabelas. The marine electronics dealers sell below MSRP from the start and then put them on sale when new models are coming out and authorized by the mfg. BPS and Cabelas sell at MSRP and then put on a sale when authorized by the mfg. I just saw an ad by a "factory outlet" and their regular price for a Humminbird 1198c SI was $3639.99 which is $840 higher than MSRP. Their "sale" is $2294.99.
