Trolling motor RF interence can be present with any sonar equipment and any trolling motor brand and model. Some get it and get rid of of, some get it and never do get rid of it. Some never get RF interference. It is entirely random and different levels of severity. It has nothing to do with the sonar equipment itself just the newest models have more electronic parts that make them more sensitive to RF interence, Mostly the motors that have variable speed are the ones that produce the interference. The frequency of that RF interference can be any range. Some get it on the 200 khz sonar frequency, some on the 83 khz, 50 khz, 455 khz, 800 khz. or any of the others. A friend of mine changed from a Lowrance X--- to a Lowrance HDS and the only way he could get rid of the internerence was to have his Motor Guide Tour with built-in transducer rebuilt and upgraded to the newest model of that style motor. I went thru all that interference stuff last year with a Humminbird Side Imaging unit and Motor Guide Tour motors. I only had interference on the 455 khz SI freqency. I solved that and now that I have a Side Imaging unit with 800 khz SI frequency, I have some interference with that frequency. It seems that Minn Kota is more proactive with that issue and resolution is easier. Its still a crap shoot with whatever you have.

My first little outboard was a 2.2 Merc. The tilt position holes are to set the motor angle so the prop will push directly opposite the boat travel. The shear pin deal is just that "SHEAR". If the prop hits anything farily solid, the pin will break and you will have an out-of-commission motor. Make sure the spare pins are in the holder and keep a few extras in your tackle box along with a method to punch out the broken pin from the prop shaft after you remove the prop (have tools for that and some cotter pins.) I used to break two or more every trip when I used mine at Briery Creek Lake. I made sure that my next small outboard was not a shear pin model.

Yes, the pedistal attaches to the unit mounting bracket. That unit in the picture (1197c SI )has already been outdated by the 1198c SI this year. They are the same size though.

Dwight, I give the bass that day off to recover from the thrashing from the weekend crowds. Hopefully they have settled down and forgot about it so I can sneak up on them. The weedend onslaught usually starts on Friday.

Answered on TFF Added note here: A Lowrance HDS unit with the LSS-1 tranducer will do what you want with no crosstalk since the LSS-1 transducer and software is just 455 and 800 khz. You can use the motor transducer for the 2D part of the HDS if there is an adaptor that works with the dual frequency HDS 2D unit.

QUAKEnSHAKE, the red lable 3X lures make very good Carolina Rig baits. The purple label 3X have salt in and on them so they sink somewhat.

Bassnair, acar555 is correct. The "other member" is wrong. The HDSI transducer is the standard for the 800, 900, and 1100 series Side Imaging units. It is NOT the one that is shipped with any 700 series Side Imaging units. The larger units use 455 and 800 khz for SI and DI. The HDSI transducer can be used with the 700 series SI units, BUT it will only use the 455 khz frequency that the HDSI is capable of. It will not use the 800 khz SI frequency which is the HD designation for that transducer. The 700 series SI units have a dedicated standard SI transducer called the "Compact SI transducer" It has 455 khz for SI/DI and 83/200 khz for 2D sonar. That Compact SI transducer is available in two styles. One is the XNT 9 SI 180 T which is a transom mount and the other is the XTM 9 SI 180 T which is the trolling motor puck type. In neither case is there a H or D in the part number of the Compact SI transducer. I have used the Compact SI transducer (transom and TM puck types) and the HDSI transducer with my 798ci SI. The HDSI transducer is longer which means it has longer crystals. The longer crystals will produce a narrower beam which gives a sharper image (some notice the difference and some don't, I do notice it). You will have to pay extra to get that transducer to use with the 798 no matter what year issue it is. Some just can't get it that the HD in the model number means absolutely NOTHING other than it is the 2011 edition with an ethernet port. Humminbird added the HD in the 2011 model numbers with the 640 vertical pixel screens to tout that feature as opposed to the Lowrance advertizing their HDS units which actually have a lower resolution screen. It is for marketing only. There is no new feature (other than the ethernet port), higher performance upgrade, or anything else someone can make up as a meaning for the HD in the model number.

Zoom worms do not float no matter what color they are. Just another myth passed on by the uninformed. The only ones I have tested that did are the Strike King 3X and the Renegade worms. All the ones laying on the bottom of this jug of water are Zoom Trick worms and some others that state"floating worms" on the package.

Owasgo, don't believe any specs on any dealer web sites for the Humminbird units. Those have be misrepresented since the units were announced last year. Refer to the Humminbird web site for the most accurate specs--even some of those are wrong but they are working on it. This is the freqeuency and coverage specs for the 570 DI. These figures are for just that signal strength, it can be a lot more and usually is for any sonar specs. 200 kHz / 25° @ -10db 455 kHz / 16° @ -10db 455 kHz / 75° @ -10db 800 kHz / 45° @ -10db The top two are regular sonar cones and the bottom two are the DI frequencies.

You sure can, all you need to do is replace all the parts except the motor lower unit.

A better solution is to use yellow braid and color 1/4 of the line on the reel spool with red softbait lure dye. Works great for all light conditions with or with sunglasses. All superlines will fade/bleed color no matter what that color is. Coloring the line black will assure the fish will see it better.

The Lowrance Mark 5x DSI units have only Down Scan and no 2D sonar and no GPS. They are good units for that purpose. That technology by itself is too new to determine if fishermen will embrace it as a replacement for 2D sonar. The screen resolution of the Eagle is the same as the Lowrance. They are less than the Humminbird. The Eagle and Lowrance screens are wider than the Humminbird. A tough decision any way you go.

The way the Grizzly boats are shaped with the narrow front and wide back, if you don't put a lot of weight on the back end, that end will be a kite when you are on the bow. A friend of mine has the 1448 short transom and even when he uses a 9.9 with it and fishing alone, the bottom of the transom is barely submerged when he is on the bow. When he is fishing electric only waters alone, his transom is about at the water level with his TM battery at the back. He weighs about 180#. When I am fishing with him and on the back, I am higher than he is above the water. I weigh 170#.

I only use the Palomar knot for a dropshot hook. I use the uni-knot and versions of it for all other connections.

Owasco. The DI model of the 570 has two 2D frequencies and two DI frequencies. It does not have GPS. You have to move up to the 597 model for GPS and Down Imaging

I got an e-mail from someone that went there yesterday. He had called the Worsham Grocery to check if they knew if it was frozen. They said it wasn't. He went to the North end and a lot of it was. He couldn't get to an area I suggested he try. He didn't catch anything and the water temp was 38. He talked to someone later that had been to the mid lake area and there was some open water there.
