  1. Bait colors are far more important to fishermen than they are to a bass.
  2. #1 Punctual #2 Fishes with me, not against me
  3. A steamer will re-activate the carpet glue in most cases.
  4. T-rig, that is a better hook, but difficult to find.
  5. The largest size of this hook- 2/0 http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=&id=0030848120038a&navCount=0&podId=0030848&parentId=&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=&indexId=&cmCat=netcon&cm_ven=netcon&cm_cat=N/A&cm_pla=N/A&cm_ite=netcon&hasJS=true There may be a better version in production in the near future.
  6. Doesn't make much difference. It's the amount of space taken up on the spool that counts. Whether it's 100 yards of 4#, or 50 yards of 20# to get the spool 1/2 full of backing, the material should weigh about the same with the heaviest being the 4# due to it's tighter packing. Neither will affect the spool speed but either will affect the inertia to overcome to get the spool started spinning.
  7. Any time you tie on a hook or lure.
  8. rondef, PM sent.
  9. rondef, yes it is.
  10. I make my own. I use a 4oz trolling sinker with a large split ring (like for car keys) on one end. In that split ring I have 8, 6" lengths of small chain and a large snap. On the other end I tied a spool of construction line (yellow) with arbor purchased at Lowe's. When I get hung up, I just put the snap on the line, let it down to the lure, jiggle it a little (if the weight dosen't knock it off) to hook the lure hooks with the chain, and pull it loose. I have one in each boat and one in my tackle bag. All the parts were cheaper than the production model retrievers before mentioned.
  11. I use two types. For fishing, this one is thin, waterproof, and windproof and is called: #1431 Hyperlite All Weather The other is a thick one with a chemical handwarmer pocket on the back and can be worn over the Hyperlite to warm up your hands: #1322 Heater Glove Both are made by Serius-----http://www.seirus.com/catalog/catalog.pdf
  12. Just use a skip gap hook. They are designed to minimize soft plastics from sliding down the hook shank.
  13. I use a custom S-glass 6'6" with a double pistol grip and wrapped guides.
  14. JonBasser, whether the wire is solid or stranded has no effect on the current capacity. It's the guage that is the determining factor of voltage drop over a distance. Heavy guage speaker wire would be fine for lighting or electronics power wiring. The more strands of wire within the insulation of equal wire sizes, the more flexible it is.
  15. Suggestion for coloring braid. When I am on a flipping pattern, I will color about 3' of braided line of either the gold or green color with soft plastic lure dye in the red color. That way I can tell if a fish has taken the lure on the fall when the line of color transition hasn't sunk to the level where my bait has fallen to the bottom. That colored part should be adjusted to the depth that you are fishing.
  16. Good place to catch a double digit bass:

If you are talking about a swimming frog, try the G-Mag Oversize Hook.
  18. If you cannot get a certificate of orgin or a title, you can register it as a homemade and get a serial number from DMV and that number has to be witnessed by a police officer when it is installed. It has to be installed so that it cannot be removed. I used rivets to do one. You will still need the bill of sale to indicate the cost for tax purposes.
  19. 2008 Tides, this is where rondef got his info. http://www.saltwatertides.com/pickpred.html
  20. Tides of the past. This site will give you historical tides for several years: http://co-ops.nos.noaa.gov./
  21. Dale, I have not experienced that symptom and can only speculate. You may have a minimum size battery or aged battery that experiences a lot of voltage drop when the trolling motor is in use. Another cause that used to be a problem a long time ago is interference from the circuitry of vairable speed motors.
  22. I've been "fluxing" my electronics for over 30 years with no problems. After a long cold day, I may have a low voltage cut-off of the electronics, but that is the only symptom that has occurred.
  23. Once you get it running right, use synthetic oil and treat all your gas with Seafoam.
  24. Octopus hook !!!! I caught over 2000 bass in 2007 using those hooks. I only use them when wacky rigging either weedless or exposed point. I use the 2/0 for finesse worms and the 3/0 for Trick worms. I also mash the barb down to make removal of the hook easier. I carry a pair of curved nose forceps for extraction because I hook a lot at the base of the throat or in the tougue. That short shank is tough to grab using regular needle nose pliers.
  25. Line color: if you are worried about the color fading, get some Stren Super Braid. I have some 30# on a spinning rig that's been on for 3 years and it's still has it's gold color. I use it a lot for wacky rigging with a fluorocarbon leader. The green colored line is just as good.
