Looking For A Portable Depth Finder.
One marine electronics dealer just posted on another site the Humminbird 398ci HD SI Combo for $249 and free shipping. That unit has Dual Beam 2D sonar, Side Imaging, Down Imaging, and internal GPS. What I use for the transducer is an old transom mount trolling motor shaft and bracket. You can use a piece of wood and a C-clamp if you want--I've done that before. Use your imagination. I have a auto plug on the unit power cord, an auto receptacle with wire/battery clips to connect to a battery or a receptacle on the craft that I may be on. The wooden circle is a project board from Lowes and the attachment to the board is a RAM mount. Check you PM

Looking For A Portable Depth Finder.
I don't have a picture of it , but I can swap the 1198 for a 798ci SI combo and not have to use the GPS antenna since it is internal.

You can make any unit portable. Just chose your price range. I use a Humminbird 1198c SI Combo.

Another Lowrance Upgrade
Simple economics. They have to introduce new stuff every couple of years to create the desire for those to want new stuff so they can sell new stuff. Other companies do the same. Auto companies do it annually.

A Revolver?????
If I carry a revolver, its my Ruger Redhawk with Pachmayr grip. Like a 357, it handles two loads--- .44 Magnum and .44 Special. It will take care of Zombies and dinner. I have taken several whitetail deer with it. "Go ahead punk, make my day"

Humminbird Helix 5" Side Imaging

The 360 mount cannot rotate. The bow unit is made to clamp to the upper shaft (that doesn't rotate) of a cable steer trolling motor. The bow model deploys and retracks with the trolling motor since it is attached to the shaft. The electic steer motor's shaft slides up and down within the mount and it rotates. Those that have electric steer motors use the transom model of the 360 which is the first version produced and still is. Some will rig their own deploy system for the bow model using a cable steer motor mount which is separate from the electric steer motor/mount. Check on the crappie web sites to see how they do it.

I went fishing yesterday and was scanning with Side Imaging looking for bass and their food. When I found them, I switched to the 360 to keep up with them as they moved around so I could cast where they are in real time. I had the combo 2D/360 view displayed some of the time so I could see how large the bass were if they passed under the transducer using FishID. Most of the time I just used the full screen 360. In this case, a bass had split the school of shad and I could clearly see where it was. I made a cast using a Krazy Blade and caught it. This is what I saw: The above interpreted: The red circles are the split school of shad and the yellow circle is the bass that was after them. This was the result: I had success 13 times and landed 11 of them. Of course the two largest ones pulled off after a few seconds. All the ones landed were hooked in the lip so they are not taking it very aggresivley.

Chatterbait Bass
The Z-man Chatterbait is also available with GOOD hooks in the Elite and Pro versions. If you bend the hook any (close it a little) on the junk version, it will make it a lot weaker.

'96 Stratos Rubber Seal
It is not a seal, it is the insert. Just do a web search for "rub rail rubber insert". Lots of sources.

A few of my friends use that round for whitetails.

Debunked Fishing Myths
The ONLY purpose of the black strip is to hold the hook eye inside the worm when working it through thick cover. It is 1/4" electrical heat shrink tubing. I don't chose that color, it is the only one readily available--I purchase it at Lowes in packages of 6. Bottom line is it has nothing to do with color, only function. These are the components of the rig:

What "deal" are you referring to?

Debunked Fishing Myths
I have debunked a few to my satisfaction. Lure scents, lure colors, and fishing line visibility.

Hds Gen2 Vs Gen2 Touch
It seems the touch screens were a good idea until they were not. The Lowrance GEN3 units will a combo touch/button operation like the Humminbird ONIX. The new issue of the ONIX will be button-only models.

Humminbird Sixty
That may be the Super 60 flasher. It is the technology that was first used for recreational sonar and some still use it instead of the LCR display models. Very popular with the ice fishing crowd. Some prefer it to LCR units for high speed navigation. Some current LCR units have a simulated flasher view like this from my Humminbird 798ci SI:

One on-line dealer got some DI/GPS models and just had one left earlier today. They will be taking care of their pre-orders first.

Would You Fish A Frog Without Legs?
Certainly do. I modify hollow body frogs for use on the Lake Guntersville mats like the white one. I remove the legs and put lead weights in place of them so they will be more noticeable to bass under that thick mat. I add rattles to the nose for extra noise. I was shown that technique by some Guntersville regulars.

Navionics App
The Elite 4m would be a good GPS unit as a companion for a sonar-only unit. If you have neither, then a gps/sonar combo unit would be a better choice.
-
Navionics App
The display size is smaller than my Samsung smartphone, but the included Navionics+ map software is top-notch. If you can deal with a smartphone app, you certainly can get by with that size display. It is about equal to the size of the chart view side of a split screen view from a 5" or 7" sonar/gps combo unit. That map software has no maps, you decide what locations to download to the map card from anywhere listed in the posted specs up to a max of 2 GB. MSRP of just the map card is $179.00

Question On .30-30 And .30-06 Rounds
Typically .30-30 factory loads are 150 and 170 gr flatnose projectiles. My Marlin likes the 150 gr. and my Winchester likes the 170 gr. I use 125 gr spire points in my Tompson Contenter 14" barrel.
