No, a zip tie will not affect the transducer's performance. Sonar penetrates plastic. The transducer's body is plastic. You may be correct about the transducer hitting the mount when you stow and deploy the motor. You can avoid that by setting the motor depth lower so the motor rests on the very front of the mount. When you raise the motor top, the skeg is lowered even before the motor moves. Check it.

No, sunscreen does not bother bass. I did a test a few years ago with several substances that were supposed to cause bass to reject a lure. One of them was Coppertone Sport sunscreen SPF 50. Someone was with me and we used the sunscreen on plastic worms all day. I think the total catch for that day is 65 bass. We we not fishing for laboratory bass, just wild, public water bass. It makes a difference if you think it does, and doesn't make any difference if you think it doesn't.

The screen scroll speed should be set to the GPS speed, if you change speeds--change the scroll speed. WIth those screen shots, the scroll speed should have been 3 Use the Sensitivity setting as a screen brightness contol. Ignore the number and adjust it to get the best images--change as often as conditions change--depth, bottom hardness, etc. Your first picture has a dark right side because it is softer than the bridge and is sloping away from the transducer. When you see stuff like that displayed, push the 4-way button to stop the screen from scrolling, then you can make adjustments to make that view the best you can.

That is Humminbird Side Imaging. It's all about the coverage. That image was done with a 1198c SI Combo. The smaller display models will do the same. In shallow water, you don't get much infomation other than the depth.

Mine works great as long as the transducer is not buried in the bottom. It showed me those fishes in the creek channel on the right, and I caught some of them.

Several line companies have a Yellow superline. I use the Yellow Daiwa Samurai. The line I used before that was the Gold Stren Superbraid. I still have about 1000 yards of it. Under some lighting conditions even the Yellow is hard to see when wearing polarized glasses. I have some reels prepared for that using red softbait lure dye to have a contrasting pattern that is easier to see than a solid color. Works for me and the fish don't care. If you think a bass will run away from yellow, throw this combo near a smallmouth and it will just about take the rod away from you. A largemouth isn't scared of it either.

I use 6# or 8# mono equivelent diameter superlines for finesse presentations, Most of the time on both I use 20# fluorocarbon when I want a leader. I will drop down to 14# fluorocarbon for a drop shot rig to have a smaller diameter line to fit the Palomar knot in the hook eye. I use the Uni-Uni connection.

Good question, thanks for asking. I use several "weights" with Zoom finesse and Trick worm. I also use superline. #1 weight is about 4' of 20# fluorocarbon line to make the braid sink. #2 weight is a heavier wire hook #3 weight is a size 3d steel finishing nail--I have used a one pound box of those in a year. #4 weight is a 3/64 oz Lunker City lead nail--I have used over 100 of those this year so far. #5 weight is a 3/32 oz Lunker City lead nail. Wind, current, depth, and sometimes the presention of the person I am fishing with will determine what weight I use. Mostly I use the 3/64 oz lead nail 10'-40' in somewhat calm conditions. My intention is a SLOW fall within the conditions at the time. It ain't power fishing. My purpose is to catch bass, not to make the next cast. If a heavier weight is used, just might as well use a jig. I will be fishing Lake Fork next week so I anticipate using the 3/64 oz lead nail the most. as I have in the past 10 years.

That is one of the main creek channels. The bottom of the channel is very constant with no "deep holes".The bass were moving from the upper end of the lake due to the cooler Fall weather. They were at a channel bend. I just happened to find them as I was doing some recording for the Navionics Sonar Charts program. I wasn't going to fish that day, but couldn't pass up the opportunity. This is a typical color range that you have. The color bar on the right side shows the intensity of the recorded echos by their color. The Yellow is strongest returns and Dark Blue/Black is the weakest. Red is like medium and there are different shades of each color. When the Yellow is the thickess, that is the hardest bottom since it produces the strongest echos. All the other colors are just weaker echos either due to distance or compositon. Remember what is being displayed is in a somewhat circle of coverge on the bottom that has a diameter of about 1/3 the depth when using 200 kHz.
