Once again you didn't pay attention to the whole model name of the Humminbird unit There are three 398ci 398ci Portable Combo 398ci Combo 398ci DI Combo None of those can have any mapping added (no card reader) and come with a basic background map with no contours for waters. For navigation purposes it is a Track Plotter, not a Chart Plotter. The first two are 2D sonar and GPS. The 398ci DI Combo is equivelent to the Elite 4 HDI. It does 2D sonar, Down Imaging, and GPS.

You have to pay attention to the whole model name of the units. A HDI unit is not a DSI unit. A Humminbird DI model does Down Imaging, 2D sonar. A Humminbird DI model that is a COMBO model does the same and has GPS also. The transducers that come with those can be used for a shoot-thru appication IF your hull is suitable for that.

The best splice is SOLDER, the waterproof the splice with liquid tape and electrical heat shrink tubing. The best wire to extend the power cord is marine grade tinned. Put the fuse at the battery, not at the splice between the power cord and extension wire.

So many purchase superlines by their rated strength. It should be purchased based on it's mono equivelent diameter. Whatever mono line you use, get the same size superline. Typically 6# mono equivelent mono diameter superline is 20# or 30# rated strength depending on brand. The smaller diameter superlines have very little shock strength. I prefer the 8# mono equivelent mono diameter superlines for spinning gear. That is 40# test with Diawa Samurai and Daiwa Saltiga. I fish for bass with bass size hooks.

If you want the Down Scan capability, you have to use the 4-frequency transducer. The unit will not be a HDI unit with the dual frequency transducer, it wil be a more expensive Elite 4x. Once you use the imaging technolgy, it may change the way you fish since you will get picture-like detail of the bottom and water column. You will see what stuff looks like rather than just blobs on the display that 2D does

Yes, I put a On/Off swtich on the 360 power cord. No, I did not and would not put a Compact SI transom transducer on the trolling motor. I have a 1198c SI and use a HDSI transducer on the trolling motor,. I had the same transducer there when I used my 798ci SI unit at the bow. Before that I used the Compact SI puck like the large one in this picture. The transom Compact Si transducer does not have extra internal shielding like the Compact SI puck or the HDSI transducer to help with possible RFI from the trolling motor. I used the correct parts for the application.

If the upper shaft diameter of the Edge is the same as the Fortrex, then it wll fit without a spacer. Humminbird does not make a spacer that I know of. Transducer Shield and Saver has a spacer that adapts the bow 360 to a Motor Guide trolling motor. That is what I have. The mount bracket clamps to the upper shaft.

Yes Snapshot has to be activated in the Accessory menu to do recordings and screen captures. The Default setting is "Off". To take a screen shot, you push the Mark button. That saves the view displayed as a .png picture file. It also creates a Waypoint with a "S" prefix and camera icon, plus a thumbnail picture that will display on the Chart view when at that waypoint.

The satellites are in constant motion. When you are not moving fast enough for the unit to determine what direction you are going, the satellite movement makes the unit "think" you are going somewhere you are not. Once you do the North Up setting and you are still, the position curser will wander around like a drunk sailor. It takes consecutive track points in a certain direction in a certain amount of time for the unit to determine direction.

You have the Navigation set up on Course Up--that keeps what is ahead of you when navigating at the top of the screen . To keep it from doing that, set it to North Up.
