  1. Toss up between senko or baby brush hog. Watermelon red / junebug red.
  2. What are your internal brakes and external dial set at? Mine is set with two on two off, dial at 3,and spool tension set to medium fall rate, no issues like your describing. Have you cleaned the brake housing or oiled the spool shaft? Maybe oil the spool bearing?
  3. Ugly stick youth combo is a decent combo for kids. Got my son one when he was 5 or 6, he is 9 now and still uses it.
  4. I catch far more fish when fishing from a kayak. It just allows far more access than Bank fishing and is so quiet. I fish Ned rigs, texas rigs, spinnerbaits, etc and do fairly well considering the area. Keep at it and you will catch more fish. The key is to target the obvious spots lay downs, Rocky areas, cover, etc.
  5. I have used trick worms with a nail inserted and o ring about 1/3 from the head of the worm. Seems to work well around areas with less weeds.
  6. So I have been experimenting with using long leaders on my casting set up to help with some stretch in the system. However, I keep breaking the leader knot while casting, causing a nightmare of backlashes. Using 30lb 4 carrier braid to a 14 lb mono leader on a 6'9" MH-XF carbonlite 2.0 and a Shimano Curado K. The break is just below the knot, as in the remaining line always has the mono wraps showing. I wet the knot before pulling the knot tightly. Using a double uni knot to connect the lines. Checked the guides there good as is the line guide on the reel. Not sure if the knot going through the line guide is weakening the knot over each cast or if I suddenly can't tie a decent knot . Been catching fish and luckily the knot has never broken during the fight. Does anyone use long 12-15ft leaders that may have some advice on this issue? Or is it best to keep the knot outside of the reel?
  7. Both brands are good. I have a Shimano Curado K and a Daiwa Fuego CT. I had an original Tatula but it was a bit too wide for me. Daiwa wins for simplicity and casting light baits. Shimano wins in every other category for me. The Curado K is able to throw a weightless trick worm on a medium heavy rod about as far as you could reasonably expect. It's smoother and better built in my opinion. I did look at the Tatula 100 quite hard but not a fan of the t wing. The fuego is solid and will last quite awhile and still used in my rotation. I played with the SLX XT a bit but the Curado K felt better.
  8. The pond is so grassy it's hard to wacky rig, even with weed less hooks. I was using a watermelon red senko ironically but weightless texas rigged. Congrats on the five this morning. I would be happy with one just to get me through the week
  9. Hoping for some advice. Fishing a local pond in Southern Ontario, 30 + degrees celcius (90 ish fahrenheit), humid, moderate wind, highly pressed lately due to COVID-19. Pond is fairly large, some sludge in areas, lots of weeds and grass. Took the kayak and fished the perimeter, focusing on shaded areas and lay downs, as well as a few deep clear areas with a frog, spinnerbait, 1/4 oz beaver bait Texas rigged, weightless Texas rigged senkos, trick worms, 1/2 oz jig with craw trailer. Water is dirty, maybe a foot of visibility. Nothing, no bites. Two weeks ago was catching them left and right. Any ideas. Some big ones in the pond 4-6 lbs, but can't buy a bite this weekend.
  10. How does it compare to your other reels? This Slx MGL has me intrigued.
  11. LCG replied to DitchPanda's topic in Fishing Tackle
No, never tried it, but I will be now. Thanks for the idea.
  12. 4/0 round bend worm hook, Berkley fusion 19.
  13. Are you fishing lures in the middle of the Lure rating if the rod? Casting into the wind? Spool filled up correctly? Leader knot catching on the guides? Casting technique off? It's not the braid, thin braid casts far.
  14. X2. This was confusing while researching, but when you look at the line capacity of each reel, you kind of get an idea. When you go to check them out in person, most similar capacity reels feel them same. My Shimano Curado k is about the same size as my Daiwa Fuego. I find them both comfortable to hold being average hand size.
  15. Personal preference, but at first it was a little odd, but I got use to it fast. For me the length is perfect and I find the action gives excellent accuracy. I use 30lb braid to a 12-15ft 14lb mono leader, which helps with some stretch. A spinnerbait catches a lot of air during a cast, so it's not a long distance bait for me, it a decent 40yd accurate cast Lure. I also use a 6'8 M-XF Carbonite 2.0 spinning rod. They are both my go to rods now. I like the xf action. Still yet to catch a frog or a fish? Never caught one on a frog, plenty on the rod though
  16. I have a carbonlite 2.0 6'9 MH-XF casting rod that I use for anything of 1/2 oz. It works well for me, I use it for spinnerbait, jigs, texas rigs, and Frogs (still yet to catch one though).
  17. That's a fish to be proud of, congrats.
  18. When I texas rig a trick worm, the flat side is facing down.
  19. I have owned and really liked Fenwick hmg and st croix Mojo and avid x. I have replaced them with BPS Carbonlites 2.0 and have no regrets. They are my favorite rods. Have them paired with Shimano stradic FL and Curado k. Perfect combos for me.
  20. I recently purchased a 100 pack of 4" Yo mama's and a 100 pack of 4" Creature baits. I love the value, the baits are soft, and the scent is not off putting. Can't wait to to put them to work in 2 weeks when bass season opens. I can foresee these baits in my regular rotation.
  21. My do it all casting rod is a carbonlite 2.0 6'9" MH-XF paired with a curado k. I mainly fish from the bank and a kayak. Works great for accurate casting and distance, plus still maneuverable in tight quarters.
  22. Same here in ontario, Canada. People line the banks, shoulder to shoulder. Crazy considering what's going on. I take the kayak out to the ponds and lakes now. Allows me to keep my distance, no boats allowed, so it's pretty peaceful.
  23. I am 100% braid to leader. I usually use kastking 10lb hi viz yellow braid on spinning reels and 30 on baitcasting reels. This year I picked up a new spinning reel and spooled it with 20lb 832 in camo. No wind knots so far, have had a few here and there before. May have been the lighter line or other ell, jury is still out.
  24. I went out Kayaking in a pond last weekend and only brought Ned rigs. Caught 11 total, 5 good size ones. Zman TRD and zoom tiny brush hogs worked very well on a 1/16 oz ball head jig. Great day of fishing
