Best punching rod for under $130
I second the Veritas- for the price point.

I need all new rods....what to get?
Can't ask for a better reason to start. It depends on how much you want to spend per rod. I did not want to spend hundreds per rod so most of my rods are from Abu. I got them on sale. None over $100. I have two Veritas, two Veracity, and one Volatile.

Frog Rod setup???
That's what I have for my frog rod, a Veritas 7'3" MH-F. You can't go wrong at less that $100. I have it paired with a Tatula CT-Type R and it casts those hollow bodies a country mile.

New to casting, suggestions?
Once you pick a reel, set all the brakes it has on then start backing them off one click at a time until you get the best performance and longest cast. Also, make sure your thumb is lightly on the spool till you get the hang of it. Like you stated originally, practice practice practice.

Nice. Both sound like great trips.

Your 2017 Fishing Goals
I've not. Maybe I should add that as one of my 2017 fishing goals. We usually fish on local waters in the morning and in the later afternoon, but not fish all the way through.

Almost lost a thumb fishing ...
Someone else sent me that link, looks like it isn't kevin's first time getting a hook janked out. No sir, dry as a bone. Unfortunatley, I've been in several motorcycle wrecks that has cost me more skin that I can remember so all in all; it hurt but not pee on myself hurt.

Your 2017 Fishing Goals
I'm new to "more serious" bass fishing. I've been fishing since I was a teenager, bank fishing that is. Now that I have a boat, with a pair of fish finders, and several rod/reel setups; I want to fish more intelligently. Meaning, using the electronics and layouts of the particular body of water I'm fishing to determine where and what to fish instead of relying solely on sight fishing. Also, I would like to learn more about the sport and how to use each rod and reels as tools and not "one size fits all" approach. 12 hour fish outing, wow! I'm usually good for 4 or so, on what I call long fishing outages; 12 now that's dedication.

Almost lost a thumb fishing ...
It felt like it anyway ... so I was getting some weeds off my rapala top water and I'll be damned if I didn't shoot it into my thumb. It slingshot itself pretty deep. I had to get the boat back to the ramp, load it on the trailer, and put it back in the garage with the treble hook deep in the thumb. To get it out, I called a friend over and he used a razor to slice along the hook until he sliced past the barb and we were able to get pull the hook out. Ouch! We, of course used generous amounts of alcohol to clean the wound and razor before the surgery. I now know what a bass feels like!

New Rod Buyer's Remorse, help!
The brand makes some difference too. For example, I have several Abu's that fish "heavier" than they are rated for. I would say, just fish with it for a few days and return it if you do not like it. Or better yet, use it as an excuse to get your second baitcaster setup.

Friday the 13th ... d**n you ...
Wasn't the most expensive rod I have and they're replaced one I broke before so I'm not too worried about it. I do have 8 others so it won't cost me any fishing time if it is broken.

Friday the 13th ... d**n you ...
If it is broken, not much I can about it so I figured let it be. Funny thing is, I remember hearing a UPS truck around 8 pm stop around my house, which is not uncommon in my neighborhood, but the doorbell didn't ring; which they usually do when they deliver a package so I did not think anything of it.

Friday the 13th ... d**n you ...
So... I'm heading out my front door to get to work and I noticed my rod tube on my porch. Bad part is that thing has some major damage. One of the caps is completely off, only held on by tape. The middle of the tube is broken and hanging. The other end of the tube is also damaged but still on. I don't understand?!!! I did not have time to unwrap it and check for damage. Hope it is fine. I'll have to wait till I get home to verify though.

Line tangled in baitcaster
Guys, I think we might me missing it (or need more details). See bolded above. This seems to be a new development and it only happens during the cast. From that description, I'm thinking the cast control knob needs adjusting. Adjustments during casts are usually done per lure. So ... FishOnLMB, can you provide more details? For example, what are you casting, is it a light lure or a heavy one; are you switching between lures when this happens. I would suggest letting a good 90% of your line out and reel it in under tension. The line could just be spooled loosely.

This thing is insane...!
By mom and pop I meant smaller retail shops, something other than multi-national conglomerates. Also, nothing wrong with fishing with what you have. The fish don't know how much you spend on your gear anyway. I don't recall ever being upset by catching a fish on my cheaper rods than I was when catching fish on my more expensive rods. For sure ... within reason of course.

Fenwick hmg or Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0
You won't get any of that here ... uh huh, sure. Anyway ... my vote is for the Abu.

Bobber slipping out of place, advice?
duct tape? clear, of course, that way the fish don't see it.
