cabelas rods?
I found a cabelas tourney rod and pflueger president for $90. i was going to buy a ugly stick elite and that reel but this combo is a bit cheaper than mix matching. http://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/rod-reel-combos/spinning-combos|/pc/104793480/c/104762880/sc/105791580/plueger-reg-president-reg-cabela-s-tourney-trail-reg-spinning-combo/2436840.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fspinning-combos%2F_%2FN-1102843%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105791580 http://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/rod-reel-combos/spinning-combos|/pc/104793480/c/104762880/sc/105791580/pflueger-reg-president-reg-spinning-combo/1308567.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fspinning-combos%2F_%2FN-1102843%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105791580 http://www.cabelas.com/product/CABELAS-TOURNEY-TRAIL-IM-SPINNING-ROD/1931261.uts?searchPath=%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FcategoryId%3D734095080%26CQ_search%3Dcabelas%2Btourny%26CQ_st%3Db

pick a reel
Yeah I'm not sure how I would like that. I think it would be good for all the crank bait and worms I throw but what I'm having a hard time with is how the reverse is on it.

pick a reel
Sorry for the 50 questions but I've got to make a decision tonight as I'm fishing all weekend. I have been reviewing reels and rods all week and have it narrowed down to a few. I currently have a 6ft ugly stick but thinking about going 6ft6 or 7ft ugly stick elite. I will be fishing largemouth in lakes/ponds, rivers for steelhead, smallmouth, maybe walleye in lake Erie on the pier. Should i go with a medium or medium light action rod? can i use my current ugly stick 6ft? I have narrowed it down to a few reels. I cant spend a lot of money cause I'm starting out fresh and have a lot of tackle and such to buy. what reel and why? Pflueger president Shimano syncopate-like the idea of quick fire. Pflueger summit maybe even a shimano spirex. I plan on using a backing with proline with the reels. Someone told me i cant use braid on certain reels. http://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/fishing-reels/spinning-reels|/pc/104793480/c/104760180/sc/104837580/pflueger-reg-president-reg-spinning-reel/1254609.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fspinning-reels%2F_%2FN-1102842%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104837580 http://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/fishing-reels/spinning-reels|/pc/104793480/c/104760180/sc/104837580/shimano-174-syncopate-spinning-reel/728343.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fspinning-reels%2F_%2FN-1102842%2FNs-MIN_SALE_PRICE%3FWTz_stype%3DGNU http://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/fishing-reels/spinning-reels|/pc/104793480/c/104760180/sc/104837580/pflueger-reg-trion-spinning-reel/1715835.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fspinning-reels%2F_%2FN-1102842%2FNs-MIN_SALE_PRICE%3FWTz_stype%3DGNU http://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/fishing-reels/spinning-reels|/pc/104793480/c/104760180/sc/104837580/pflueger-reg-summit-spinning-reel/1661214.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fspinning-reels%2F_%2FN-1102842%2FNs-MIN_SALE_PRICE%3FWTz_stype%3DGNU thanks so much guys.

help me set up my rods
I currently have a 5ft5 Shakespeare light action rod i use for crappie and sometimes throw light top water minnows for largemouth or use it for bobber fishing small mouths in the river holes. I have a 6ft ugly stick combo i got at Wal-Mart but replacing the reel with a shimano sahara, sencopate or sierra. I will be getting the larger spool 3000 series reels to use 30-40lbs pro line. I think the rods a medium action and i have pulled some large channel cats, drum and bass out with it and no issues. A guy at work is supposed to be giving me an ugly stick casting rod 6ft6 and said i should put a bait caster on it. Here is how i usually fish and i do decent. I throw poppers, rapala original in different sizes, sometimes lipless crank baits i guess they are called or small lipped ones that don't dive real deep. sometimes a texas rigged worm. I don't do spin or buzz baits. first off what do you guys think about these rod reel setups for what i want to fish? I cant spend a lot of money on it. do i need a bait caster? never used one but like the concept. I see a lot of taller and thicker rods and see references on here about medium-heavy action rods. I sometimes fish for small mouth and steelhead in the rivers and want to try walleye off the pier of lake erie. all my fishing is dock, pier or bank fishing as i cannot swim so don't do boats. when i largemouth fish its sometimes walking through the woods finding a little clearing and fishing it. I thought about getting either an abu Garcia black max or quantum escalade bait caster or even a BP Pro qualifier for the new rod i am being given and outfitting it with power pro and the new spinning reel with power pro. any other information is appreciated.

what reel/line?
I have been reading a lot of reviews and one reel that I'm interested in is this and the sienna by shimano. both have great reviews but want to see what you guys think. Ive never hardcore fished before so trying to stay cheaper end but will work. I'm used to the Wal-Mart $25 combos someone recommended fireline and watching a few videos i hear guys use a braid with mono backer whatever that means and using certain lines that float or sink. if im fishing rapalas, worms texas style and such would strait fireline be okay or should i look into something else? I looked into that ugly stick combo and its got horrible reel reviews so i think ill just outfit my old ugly sticks with a couple reels. can i fish worms and rapalas with a spinning reel from docks and banks okay or should i look into bait casters?

what reel/line?
I'm looking for spinning reels and maybe a bait caster. The rods i have are for spinning reels. I will do more bass fishing than anything just want to dabble in steelhead in the rivers and walleye off the pier. I would like to keep it at $50 a piece for the reels or maybe even a combo. I found a ugly stick gx2 combo at cabelas for $50. I currently have an older Wal-Mart uglystick combo but the reel doesn't cast very far or smooth and i have spider wire on there now. i figured that was the way to go for bass and catfish.

what reel/line?
Hey guys im fairly new to this but want to jump in feet first this summer. I have 2 ugly stick medium action rods and want to buy new reals for them but want to keep both under $50. i will be fishing for walleye, rivers, small mouth, lakes, largemouth, steelhead. what reel and line do you recommend for me. ill mostly be throwing crank baits and worms and sometimes live with a bobber.

what baits/lures for new guy?
yeah i can already see that. I have an older ugly stick with cheap reel and someone is giving me an ugly stick so need 2 new reels for them. buying a new tackle bag, and now onto baits. sitting watching a bobber is getting boring so i want to cast some hard baits or soft stuff just don't want to waste money on something.

what baits/lures for new guy?
I've been fishing for about 20yrs started with bobber and live bait to using rubber worms here and there and now getting into crank baits and such. I only have experience with rapala top water original minnows and poppers and catch bass on occasion but i want to extend my tackle box with more of an arsenal. I fish lake Erie, several reservoirs, rivers, large farm ponds. if you could also point me in the right direction of where and when to use the baits recommended it would be appreciated. I'm interested in large mouth and small mouth as well as walleye and steelhead. I don't own a boat so shore fishing is all i have access to. i currently run 2 ugly sticks with spider wire 10lbs and 15lbs. both have spinning reals on them but interested in getting a bait caster.
