I know its not bass fishing but want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I am just getting started steelhead fishing and interested in a 9ft medium cabelas steelhead rod. I'm not fishing very large rivers just some lake Erie tributaries. would a 9ft medium action be good for bobber fishing? they also offer a 10ft but its a heavy action. what do you guys use? looking to stay under $75 for the rod.

i looked online to see how they went and that's how i got the washers back together. The whining noise is coming from the spool but the grinding is coming from the reel body where the part that spins the bail connects to the body. it only grinds on reverse not forward. haven't tried it with the spool off though.

when i lifted the spool small black and white washers came off and fell in my lap. I put them back on 2 times and the drag wouldn't click when the line was pulled so i repositioned them and it worked but whines and grinds. sounds like its the part of the reel that spins.

Yeah I thought it was odd when I lifted the spool both washers fell right off in my lap. It's going back today. Thanks.

I have a brand new president 35 Reel and like a dummy took the spool off and the little white and black washers fell off so after putting them back on 3 times until the drag clicker worked right now the reel has a grind noise to it. I'm not sure of it did it before I took the spool off or not. It's like it hits on a full rotation like metal to metal Sorry grinding is on reverse and squeak on forwards when reeling.

The only thing i have to judge off of is a pflueger president 35 series. I wanted something i could use for all around fishing. winter i can take the reel off the bass rod and put on the steelhead rod and then back on the bass rod. I held and played with a 30 series 6ft6 rod and a 35 series 7ft rod and the 35 felt better for me but I'm 6ft6 300lbs so i could sling an ocean rod and probably wouldn't care. The 30 just felt a little too small for me and i held them up to a 2500 series shimano and the 30 looked smaller. i chose mono for my steelhead setup and the larger spool, more drag, etc was what was recommended to me and i think ill be okay with it.

Any idea how to clean and lube? He's a tournament fisher and uses high end shinanos said he got the reel for his kid and they only used it a few times maybe 2 times. It's in very good condition from what I see. Anything special I have to do when re spooling? Just tie and wind?

I was given an old quantum tournament bait caster with some old mono on it. should I just respool the whole thing with new or tie onto the old? the guy who gave it to me said its a 4 bearing and sat around for a number of years and was only used once or twice. showed me how to set spool tension and what not. is there anything else I have to do like lube anything or anything special I have to do to spool it? planning on throwing some 12lbs mono like suffix on it and using an old ugly stick and using it for crank baits.

I do a lot of walking and thought this would be good but it looks a little chincy. aka not well made. just wondering if anyone uses it and how the longevity of it is or if anyone uses a sling style bag like this? I put it on in store and it felt a little odd but ive never used anything like it before so wondering what you guys think?

I just got back from dicks sporting goods and they had clearance crankbaits and one had 2 holes to attach to on top and it said its a sinking crankbait. are all lipless sinking style?

to me the cabelas felt lighter and the tip isn't so whippy like a switch like the ugly stick is. I just picked up the pflueger president combo with that rod. your better buying the combo cause its $59 till the 22nd.

fishing larger farm type lakes and rivers for largemouth, smallmouth, walleye here and there. cover could be grassy areas, clear reservoirs, muddy ponds and lakes. I have never used a baitcaster before. I know pretty much what baits to use for what fish just not sure whats supposed to be used with this combo and whats not supposed to be used if it even matters.

I was given a pistol grip 6ft medium action ugly stick and a quantum bait caster today. what line would you spool this with and what kind of lures would you use with this setup?

I used to use nothing but ugly stick medium with the Shakespeare reel for the last 10yrs or so. I've caught several fish Ohio channel cats float fishing in the river with that combo, probably 50 bass, a fresh water drum AKA sheep head that weighed probably 20lbs and measured about 3ft. Even caught my personal best largemouth probably 6lbs on a original float rapala. Bass jumped out of the water to hit a dragon fly or something and threw that lure in the spot a couple times and he hit it. I recently upgraded to a graphite IM8 rod so we will see how that performs. I switched over cause i began throwing worms and more crank baits and sometimes couldn't feel the bites. Ill still use that ugly stick for some things.

Mine had mad deals. Gamatsku and kvd worm hooks for ***$ fireline for 9$ a lot of mono for 2-4$ going tomorrow for some fireline and floro for leaders.

man thanks for the awesome idea. I gained a lot of weight and used the MTB in the parks and quit cause I got fat. this would help me get back into it and fish longer than walking longer. I will be getting a backpack than. thank you. does it feel cumbersome? I looked at one in store the other day and i thought man its bigger than my hunting backpacks. LOL.

Do you guys like the rod holder idea? is it bad to tear down and setup rods and reels?

thanks. I have a couple hunting packs but seen the one I linked and its got a lot of storage things specific for tools and what not. I walk several reservoirs that are 2+miles round and several state parks so hitting the trails a lot on there. after buying the normal tackle bag last night and trying it out around the house I see it being a pain hanging off my side but I could get used to it I guess.

Does anyone on here use a tackle backpack? I picked up a normal tackle bag last night cause I hate carrying a tackle box and then I seen tackle backpacks on sale. Part of me says great idea and another part says its a little overkill and would be more of a hindrance but I've never used anything other than a hard box. what you think?

What crank baits do you guys like for bank fishing? some of my spots are 5-12ft and some go as deep as 30ft but I'm assuming it's in the middle. mostly state park lakes and hunting ground lakes and a some reservoirs.

not good for crankbaits like 5-6ft divers?
