  1. I just purchased a 35 series president spinning reel and 7ft medium fast rod and it says 8-12lbs line and 1/4-3/4oz baits. I picked up several rapala shad raps with a small bill and top water originals but don't see any weight sizes on the crankbaits. I also got a couple packs of 7'' power worms and chigger craws and not sure what they weight either. How do you know what's compatible and what's not?
  2. ended up with that exact one today. thanks.
  3. Im going in a few hours to pickup one of these linked below and see that some in the same size have a mod/fast action and some have different lure weights in the same size. I need some advise on which to get. I will be mostly bank fishing large farm lakes, rivers, etc. throwing worms, some small crank baits, etc. what would be best for what i want to do? http://www.cabelas.com/product/home/rod-reel-combo-sale-2017|/pc/105625080/c/157613580/plueger-reg-president-reg-cabela-s-tourney-trail-reg-spinning-combo/2436840.uts?destination=%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FcategoryId%3D157613580
  4. Never used any bait caster. Now I went to buy the trion tonight and seen it's only a 3-4 bearing. Should I pass or will it be okay for a season or 2? it's the newer model with magnets too.
  5. I found a pflueger Trion bait caster for under $25 so wanted to try one and will be buying tonight. I have never used one of these before and would like to use it for worms, senkos, crank baits, etc if possible. what type of line and weight would you guys use for this reel? I was going to put it on a 6ft pistol grip ugly stick that i have reeless and if i like the bait caster move onto a lightning shock rod or something else. What type of bait are usually used with a bait caster reel? Anything i need to do when i get it, line it and mount it? should i have cabelas line it for me? Do i need to do anything to the spinning reel/pflueger president when i get it?
  6. going to make a few purchases and have been reading a lot and i see 50% like strait shank worm hooks and 50% like the offset ones. I will be using 7-10 inch Berkley power bait worms and would like to use senkos also so what hooks do you guys recommend for these setups? how about weedless worm hooks? pain in the butt or worth it? also what size weight are you using for these setups-senko and worms? im using spinning gear and fishing anything from lake erie and tributaries to ponds and medium size lakes.
  7. Im not sure if its the new version or not. Walmart had several in the clearance section.
  8. thanks so much. I have never fished a texas rig before. just want to make sure I'm buying the right things.
  9. would you recommend the gamatsku ones that are smaller?
  10. I grabbed like 4-5 packs and then seen how the KVD was very wide and thought I better ask seeing how I have never used anything like that before. put together they were same length and what not just very wide.
  11. found this reel at Walmart for $24 and have a 6ft ugly stick sitting around would this be a decent reel to start with and pair with the ugly stick? I know its $24 some say take a chance but money is very, very tight. https://www.fishusa.com/product/Pflueger-Trion-Low-Profile-Casting-Reel. I cant find any reviews on this thing so figure ask you guys. Thank you.
  12. do you think 35 is too large for bass also? I have no clue what I'm doing. thanks.
  13. was at Walmart tonight and they had a ton of KVD worm hooks and gamatsku hooks for $1.00-2.99. I picked up a couple 7inch power bait worms and they said size 4 hooks are compatible on the package. Upon looking at the kvd and the gamatsku the same size looked different with the kvd being larger in the gap of the hook. what size do you guys use and are different manufactures the same size or different? Thank You.
  14. I'm looking for a nice largemouth setup for shore fishing and narrowed it down to a pflueger president in the 35 series reel with 6ft6 cabelas tourney trail im8 rod. I was recommended the 35 because i also want to walleye fish off the pier and steelhead fish in the rivers and the recommendation was buy the 35 series reel and swap it from rod to rod for the different seasons. would 35 size be a pain (too much) for bass and that rod? ill be fishing texas rigs, crankbaits, etc. would 35 size be okay for steelhead-8-9ft rod, walleye off the pier and channel cats? Or go with say a pflueger summit on sale in the 40 series to swap with the other species rods? Ill probably be using braid line too.
  15. Well I think I've made my decision. I reviewed the cabelas tourney trail im8 with pflueger president reel and it seems like a good setup. I am also thinking of buying the abu Garcia vengeance or vendetta and pairing it with the pflueger summit which is on sale right now or i might buy both combos so i don't have to decide between the 2.
  16. I only shore fish and some of the areas are public so get pounded so I have to walk through the woods to find better spots so stuff gets beat up a lot so don't want to buy a lot of stuff or expensive stuff and have it get broken. Just want something to fool around with but better than my Walmart Shakespeare combos.
  17. was your vengeance in store or online purchase? I have an ultra light Shakespeare I use for bluegill and crappie and when you cast it swooshes. LOL. Its might have been a UL lightning rod then. I'm talking the tip and last few inches was very thin compared to the others. is a whippy tip good or bad? thank you I will do that. the rod by the handle was beefy but seemed hollow feeling and the tip was very fine. smaller than the others tips. I will take another look.
  18. I took a trip to my local Walmart that doesn't have their fishing stuff in a mess like most of them to look at a couple rods I was recommended. abu Garcia vengeance Berkley lightning rod and a couple mitchells i read some decent reviews on. Ugly stick light pro Now here is the question-I tried a lightning rod and IMO the tip on that thing and everything else about it seemed like it would break almost like it was too flimsy and kind of whippy like a switch or something. It also felt very graphitey. it was marked medium action. the cork handle was really nice but the top part that screws over the reel seems like its junk. abu Garcia vengeance one was medium and other medium heavy action. this rod was more stiff and the medium-heavy the tip seemed like if bent it would snap right in half like it was a stiff rod. the medium the tip was a little whippy and felt like it was well medium duty. It didn't say what they were made of and ran about $50 but I think they might be on sale cause the other ones were. this one had a coating on it that almost reminded me of the cheap Shakespeare rod combos for $20 but appears built better. ugly stick light pro was a medium action and man that thing felt like I was holding a willow tree switch the last 6 inches or so was very whippy. Mitchell was a combo that was around $70 marked down to $35 and it felt pretty stiff. Is having a whippy tip or a non whippy tip good? I also checked some cabalas rods and noticed that the split handle ones some had longer handles and some shorter and some had more rod material showing in the middle of the handle than others. does this make a difference? all rods are 6ft6 spinning rods. Thank you.
  19. Thanks. I still have some finding to do. IDK if its a certain rod or not. the last time they did the spend so much get a instore gift card i was screwed 2 times cause it was on certain items or wrong and they didn't want to fix the sales ad. Im going to take a ride there this weekend and check out what they have. I found the pflueger summit reel at cabelas for $44-was $59 i couldn't tell the difference between it and the president. I have about $50-60 I've got to spend at cabelas in gift cards plus a spend $150 get $20 coupon for them. If the other store has some good st Croix deals ill probably get the rod from them and reel and what not elsewhere to meet my $150 to get $20 or $25 off.
  20. not really into bait casters but thanks. looking for a spinning outfit and have to spend the $ at cabelas preferably because of the rewards points and gift cards i have.
  21. Well i might just bite the bullet and spend a little more money. I have a local mom and pop chain here in Ohio that has $40 off any st Croix rod $99 or more. I grew up poor so i have the tendency to buy cheap stuff.
  22. man this is driving my nutz. good reviews, bad reviews, etc. I was looking at the lightning rods but seen a lot of bad reviews. why does it have to be this hard lol.
  23. My ugly stick would probably work for the short end in guessing. I'm 6ft6 so 6ft6 rod would be okay I guess. Never uses anything but the ugly stick Walmart combo in the plastic ready to fish box.
  24. I usually just screw around on the weekends throwing top water and some worms and everyone once and awhile crank baits. I want to try steelhead fishing and do more bass fishing with crankbaits and worms and such. I'm a shore fisherman if that helps. what size action would you suggest?
  25. I have been trying to decide on a new fishing setup and picked a reel to go with my 5ft6 or 5ft10 or so ugly stick and decided on a pflueger summit but from what ive been reading is maybe I should go full 6ft or 6ft6. I found a cabelas tourney rod with pflueger summit reel on it for $69 that got great reviews but ive also read stay away from combos. I want an all around multi species setup. http://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/rod-reel-combos/spinning-combos|/pc/104793480/c/104762880/sc/105791580/pflueger-reg-summit-cabela-s-tourney-trail-reg-se-spinning-combo/1750481.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fspinning-combos%2F_%2FN-1102843%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105791580 http://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/rod-reel-combos/spinning-combos|/pc/104793480/c/104762880/sc/105791580/pflueger-174-monarch-8482-spinning-combo/2175539.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fspinning-combos%2F_%2FN-1102843%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105791580 http://www.cabelas.com/product/fishing/rod-reel-combos/spinning-combos|/pc/104793480/c/104762880/sc/105791580/pflueger-reg-trion-reg-spinning-combo/1720832.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fspinning-combos%2F_%2FN-1102843%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105791580
