just got off phone with Travel Advice nurse. traveling sounds scary coming from her.
I live in South America / Colombia most of the year and my work takes me all over the country. Never caught anything exotic in 20 years or so except the Rona and it wasn’t that bad. I wouldn’t worry about anything in Brazil. Most of the countries down here you can purchase OTC antibiotics at any pharmacy.

Baccarac, heyday past?
Thank you for your reply. I believe I will book a trip. Is late October/ November generally a good time to fish it weather wise? Thanks again

Baccarac, heyday past?
Has anyone heard of any reports of how the lake is fishing lately? Thinking of taking my first trip there later this year? Thanks

Latest Color Research (Bass Vision)
Thank you both. Red light was what I was thinking as well and will avoid the sudden shock of light by keeping some lights on. Appreciate your help.

Latest Color Research (Bass Vision)
Hope I am not hijacking this thread in another direction, but I came across this great conversation while trying to find a head lamp that will not spook bass near the boat when trying to get them in the net at night. I fish a lot at night and just when I think the fish has given up and laid over to net them, i turn on my light to see and it almost always makes them burst for another run no matter how beat I thought I had them. That last burst near the boat is where I have lost so many very big fish and it's killing me. Being in a jon boat, with not great eyesight to begin with, anchor ropes in close proximity, in a treble hook situation, and the added problem of not having much line out to mitigate a violent run at such close quarters has been disastrous more times than I would like to admit. I'm curious with all the different RGB headlamp options available these days if one of them would be better than the white light I have been using? I have even bought a giant walleye net to try to shrink that margin, but was wondering if anyone uses any other lights in a different spectrum and notices if it helps keeping them from making that last run? Thank you

What time of day did you catch your PB?
4pm 11.10lb. I was worn out from punching all day. Buddy i was with is an animal and i would had been off the water and hour earlier if it had been my boat. Thankfully he wanted to keep fishing and I got my PB because of that.

FL is great
Looks like you are on the Ocklawaha? I do love it her but have been fed up with all the aquatic spraying and that has been the hot topic down here the past couple of years (or more). Finally some good news today is that they have suspended spraying. Hopefully it stay in place so that the bass habitat is great again. http://www.lakeokeechobeenews.com/

Cross roads.
Sorry to hear this and always enjoy reading your thoughts from the legendary experiences you have had. At least you were in your prime when fishing itself was in it's prime and achieved what you have. The last ride is something we will all have reckon with some day. I hope there is at least one more giant left in your future.

February 2018 trip to central FL
Good decision on location as well as time of year. Full moon is 1 March and you will be there leading up to that and as long as a pesky front doesn't mess you up, there will be a lot of big fish going shallow. I'll pm you with a little more specific info.

Fishing in florida or california
If you end up deciding on FL, there is a fast and furious shad run during the month of may in the middle St Johns that you would have a legitimate shot of a 10lbr- if you fished that pattern. Then i would go to Kissimmee and or neighboring lakes with a lot of tungsten and 65lb braid.

Bass fishing near Gainesville Florida
Fish Lake Alice at night with big worms. I know fishing is not allowed there, but i once new a guy that fished it all the time under the cover of night with 10" worms. He released several over 10 and one that was almost 13. Legend say that the anti-fishing authorities almost caught him one night in 1992, but he was too fast- even for them.
