  1. This is the first I have heard of Presa Calles. I will research it. Sounds like an interesting trip. My title heyday past was really in jest and to get replies. It has risen and fallen several times over the last few decades. I believe I made my first trip there in the late 90's. Comedero is another one that has had huge swings from great to poor and back to poor again. El Salto I fished once but it is too commercial for me, too many lodges, boats, and fishermen. Picachos is fun for a 3 day trip because of numbers and close proximity to Mazatlan. Guerrero must be down or considered a little dangerous, I never hear anything about it anymore. we used to haul our boat down there back in the 90s. But Baccarac is definitely my all time favorite Mexico lake, when it is on it's heaven. I doubt I will go until I see it is for sure improving.
  2. Manuel is a heckuva good guide down there. What he says carries weight. When I went last December my guide told me he was worried about the fishing also. By United States lake's standards it is good but we hold Mexico fishing to a high standard. I love the total experience but poor fishing hurts after spending several grand.
  3. Lake Bacarrac in Mexico had a tough 2021 with seriously low water last summer and fishing really fell off from it's standards of the past several years. I went in December and managed a 10 lb bass but it was the only 10 that had been caught in a month or so. At least that is what I was told. Numbers were down also. Reading current reports it looks like the fishing is still struggling a bit. Very few 10 bass being caught and numbers aren't anything like 2015 -2020. Anybody here been lately, have a trip planned soon. Or aware of any recent first hand reports?
  4. That's great! I am jealous, I love fishing new lakes and I love fishing Mexico. Hopefully you can post some trip reports with more pictures of the lake. And I wouldn't be overly concerned with the clear water, I have caught plenty of bass at Amistad in Texas with 20lb flouro. Visibility there runs from 7 to 20 feet usually. Having said that, one of my rods would have a 10 lb flouro dropshot setup with an Aaron's Magic color Roboworm.
  5. I called them and they said Megabass is excluded from sale. Bummer
  6. I don't have much time to post right now but don't forget about Oklahoma blades. Terminator used to have these available for their T1 spinnerbaits. I caught many bass using the Oklahoma blades.
  7. Thanks for the replies. Most options are out of stock unfortunately. The Megabass Triza Dragoon looks like a killer rod. How do ya'll bring these on the plane to Mexico? And how many rods do you bring down there? I normally use 4 or 5 rods down there.
  8. For those of you who own travel rods (casting), what are you recommendations? And any I should avoid? Thinking about buying some to bring to Mexico (Baccarac). Bringing rods down on the commercial plane is a huge pita but once the boat is launched it sure is nice having my comfortable Dobyns rods. I have also rented at Lake Baccarac Lodge but that is kind of expensive for the quality there. Another thing, one or 2 rods will have to be able to handle 1oz jigs, swimbaits and deep crankbaits. The only light rod I will need is for a popper.
  9. Another thing about night fishing...you don't always have to change to "night lures" to catch bass at night. Sometimes the best lures are the same lures you caught them on during the day. Best to not get too hung up on lures that must be dark or only lures that put off a lot of vibration.

Congratulations man! Bass fishing is such a fun challenge. I don't regret a single minute of my life I spent fishing and I am glad to see someone that also really loves it!
  11. Excellent video. I wish I had the energy to video my trips. I just want to fish and enjoy myself, take it all in. Oh well.. I will be back at Baccarac in December. After watching your video I wish it was sooner, lol. What a beautiful lake.
  12. Will there be an American version of this reel to take the place of the 50MG? Opinions, guesses?
  13. To get a lot more life out of a Senko wacky style (15 or 20 bass sometimes), cut a 3/8" strip of duct tape and wrap it around the center of the senko (where you normally hook it). Then place the belly of the hook under the tape so essentially, the tape is holding the hook to the senko. Works like a charm and the fish don't seem to notice.
  14. Catt, I could fill many live wells with the fish I caught on that Snagless Sally. Down here in the south Louisiana marshes I grew up throwing that and a 9 1/4" Little Bend worm, and a Johnson silver minnow spoon with an Uncle Josh pork frog trailer. That was our complete tackle box, didn't need anything else back then. I love that pic!
  15. Good point, bigbassdave. The Metanium has an 80mm handle, I am guessing the Chronarch will have an 84mm handle. Not a lot of fishermen buy the JDM reels. These Chronarchs are fast becoming "enthusiast" reels. 300 smackers is not pocket change...and I am sure I'll have one soon!
