Fun gear finds
Anyone have any fun tackle or gear finds? These three arrived today from eBay. I've always wanted a Coriolis!

Reel grease
This is exactly what I use most of the time along with Abu Oil for the ball bearings. I think the best idea is GO LIGHT! I've seen many people scoop the stuff and just smear it on everything inside. I just finished cleaning a nice Team Daiwa reel from about 15 years ago. Looked horrid at first but now it feels like silk.

Spinning Reel sizes
For most things I'm spoiled with 4/6lbs on a 2500. For bigger pike/striper I move up to a 4000. I just bought a Daiwa emcast plus 4500 to boot. Still the 2500 size is still good for big fish too. Two reels. On the left is a 4000 penn battle. The right is a Daiwa legalis 3500. If you hold them up side to side the Daiwa is a little bit bigger than the penn. the 3500 Daiwa fits 190meters of 12lbs the 4000 penn fits 170 yards of 12. I think the only real standard is within each company that has their own standards that arent the same as all the rest. Woman's clothing is the same. A Gap shirt that's size 6 isn't the same size as another company's size 6.

Do you collect old rods and reels
I not only can't toss anything, but I can't stop buying rods and reels from when I was young. This weekend Iv'e already bought two Daiwa baitcasters from the late 80's early 90's and it's only saturday Nice magforce ones with "gasp" 2 bearings!

Good evening from Hartford County!
Figured I'd say hi and thank all the old timers and new timers for the great tips and convos! Up in canton/ Collinsville area (real fly fishing country). Been fishing since I was 4'7". I like tackle. Lots of tackle. In the last month I've picked up 10 Daiwas, one tsunami Shield, one penn Battle, 4 Quantums, 5 Abu Garcias, 2 Pfluegers, and a whole bunch of rods! Been fishing finesse dine every saw Guido Hibdon excel at the technique, Carolina's and variants for three decades. Fish on!

Best reel you have used?
Behold the Abu Garcia xlt adjustable ambassadeur. Been cranking for 24 years now. Still the best flipping and jigging reel I've used. Still can tug a cruise ship. For finesse baitcasting I'm sticking with the pfluegger Asaro such a smooth reel. Even Madonna couldn't say not to it. I like it better than my revo beast. My favorite spinning gear must be the Daiwa Fuego. I did the anodizing too.

Reel cleaning. What do you use?
I'm curious as to what everyone here uses to degrease a reel with. You know, the ones with 25 year old caked grease.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
I hate that place but this sale around I did end up going. Abu blackmax combos were on sale. They only had 6 left. They were $15 each. Abu vengeance rods were $12 each and Berkeley Lightnings were $6.00. I bought all they had. They're resetting the fishing section. And I still say they're not going to be replacing all the clearance merch. I think it's going to get smaller. To date I still buy almost all my goods from eBay, Local shop, cabelas, and more eBay!

Crankbait Line
I found that a good knot makes WAY more difference in cranks and such Lures with similar mechanics for action. A uni knot, rapala, or arbor knot I believe are 3 knots that are strong and leave a small loop at the end. Between the knot and the eyelet of the lure. It seems to facilitate better action.

Who would you fish with for a day?
George Bush. I remember watching the news when I was younger and they reported that he was something like 100 days fishing without a fish. So I'd out fish the president.

Abu Garcia Reel
The Japanese round ones? I think the CLW reels? It's all silver with 8 bearings? If so those usually bring anywhere between $50 and $80 depending on condition. Some in great condition could obviously bring more.

Rods made in China?
Here in the U.S. we make a lot of great things. We also make a lot of crappy thing. And this is the same in almost every country. A lot of the better made reels and rods I've used are made in other countries.

Daiwa Revros vs. RG
I currently own a Revros 2000 , 2500, A lagalis 3500, and a Fuego. These Revros reels are awesome for the price. Well balanced, good retrieve, and are VERY comfortable in my hand. I recommend them to anyone. I used my Legalis for pike/salt. I prefer my Fuego to the others but I like its looks better with all the red. If I'm buying a reel between $40 and $95 it would be a reveros.

Diehard Shimano user....heading to the darkside?
So far I really like the Fuego bait casters. I got one with a pretty quick gear ratio that I use for mostly plastic some plastic swim baits on the lighter side. I have it spelled up with 10 pound florou and casting distance and smoothness are impeccable. Don't get me wrong you won't mistake this for a Steez Quality reel but for the price I think it's a good purchase. Feels nice in my palm. Mines the normal sized one, which is as small as I'd prefer. I don't really see any advantage in making this any smaller than it already is. But that's just a personal comfort issue and nothing against the Reels. If you ask me if I would buy it again I would tell you yes I would.

Diehard Shimano user....heading to the darkside?
After years of my Saharas, Curado, and Spirex reels I decided to buy a Tatula, Fuego, Revros, and Legelis. It was a good decision. Don't get me wrong, I love Shimano. But you know what, using new reels of a bit different of design and function feels fresh and new. It's a nice change sometimes. I even throw in some pfluegers and quantums when I'm feeling swirly. Fishing is fun. Fresh equipment is fun too.

China's Signol reel
I'm a pretty devout Shimano and Daiwa guy. But who's to say I don't have some quantums and a pile of Abu's too! My favorite reel right now (for this week) is a pflueger Asaro. Sometimes I wonder how many rods the average fisherman keeps in the stable.

China's Signol reel
For $250 it's a commitment buying one. Chinese brand reels seem to have a bad name (where are all the shimano, diawa, and vanstaals made). Last year I picked up a Chinese baitcaster for $40 and it gave better reels a run for its money. I'd love to see one somewhere. I don't think it'll be to long before bait shops carry some.

Greatest lure ever made?
Creme's are a close second to me. Growing up a 4" curly tail tequila sunrise Culprit on a Carolina was king right befor the Sluggo showed up. Atleast in my part of Connecticut! Still a favorite of mine.
