Getting into kayak fishing.
I second the ATAK 140! I paddle one, stand in it, sit sideways on it and all. It’s a very stable boat. I’m 5’ 10, weigh 260 and I can move around in it pretty well. Like one of the other gentlemen said in a post earlier, you will find out what you like and what you don’t pretty quick. I love the room, the layout, the maneuverability, tracking and the best is the seat. For me, the worst thing for the ATAK 140 is the weight. I was recently on the fence about getting my son a new kayak. I came down to Bonafide and Oldtown this time. I personally feel that 14ft is a lot of kayak and if I had it to do over I’d go 12. Consider your height and weight when thinking about stability. A 5 ft 125lb man can say something is very stable. Put a 6ft 230lb man in the same kayak and things change quite a bit.

Spinnerbaits
I was throwing Booyahs for a while and a couple of weeks ago I picked up a 1/2oz V&M Predator that I really like. I caught some good fish on it the days that I’ve fished it. The jury is still out on it though. I’ll have to see how it lasts.

First kayak
Set your budget first brotha! I fish a Wilderness ATAK140. I love it but it’s a pain to transport. There are a lot of questions you need to ask yourself and things you need to check out. First thing is budget though, that will narrow it down quite a bit. Then go fish one if you have that option available. That way you can gauge what you want or need room for. It’s a hard choice with so many different brands now. Also factor in accessories like I e of the boys above said.

Looking to pick up a Shimano baitcaster
SLX DC or like NJbasstard said, get a Bantam! The Bantam is the best reel in the line up to me. I haven’t had an Antares yet though. LOL I just got on the DC wagon last month. Bought a SLX DC and gave it to my son. I really didn’t care for it to be honest. If you are a guy that has one reel, I see the appeal but if you have multiple setups I don’t really see a plus. If you’re a tackleholic get it just to mess around with it!

Wide roomy yak?
It's a real hard decision to make because there are so many good brands out there. I'd say set a budget first. Then start looking for what's in your price range. What weight, length and width you want. Also consider the seat, mounting points for accessories and storage! Think about what paddle you want. Paddles are a big part of kayak fishing if you don't go pedal driven and can cost some coin. Also, think about electronics if that is something on your list. Once you have your list built, find a store to go check them out. I started offshore fishing on a friends Hobie and it was great. IMO for pond or small lake fishing it's a bit too much. I chose to get a Wilderness ATAK 140. It's big, because I'm big lol but I really like it. I've started to fish ponds and small lakes here in Louisiana and it's been great. Check out paddleva.com, they have some good prices! I wanted to buy local but I saved almost $500 ordering it through them. I will support my local guy with accessories and other stuff.

Hello
Hello everyone, my name is Clint and I live in Shreveport, Louisiana. I just PCSd here in September, from Guam. I use to do a lot of off shore fishing but now it's time to get back to freshwater angling. I'm looking forward to learning some new things, as bass fishing has changed a lot since fishing with my dad in the 90s.
