Summer Midday Fishing
I generally only fish the shallow end of a pond in my area as that's the only place where the cover is. That being said if you have any grass around there WILL BE BASS THERE. Perfect example: I got crushed fishing a white buzzbait at Guntersville last Saturday in 92 degree weather in 2 feet of water with hydrilla right under the surface. The bass was just lying in the weeds where the sun couldn't reach him waiting for something to happen by. He literally had the whole buzzbait in his mouth!

Are the Rage Tail Thumper supposed to be out yet?
Big O how do we divert that shipment to Bass resource members???? I've been contacting somali pirates and watching fast and furious over and over for techniques

best crankbait for shallow pond water
What's a good crankbait for small and/or shallow ponds? One place I fish is only 16 feet deep in a corner that i never get bit in, the other side is 4-6 feet deep and pretty nasty with slime on bottom and weeds on top. The other pond is really a golf course lake that's is huge. You need special permission to fish the "golf course part" and hole number 8 swiftly drops to 15 feet deep off the green so I'm not concerned about crankbaits there. Right now we've only got permission for the "owner" lake which connects to the golf course lake via a dam and spillway. The spillway side is shallow about 5 feet deep. I've got a few weeR crankbaits and a teenyR, but somebody told me the weeR will swim some 12-14 feet. I don't believe it but I guess something that small has little drag on it. What do you recommend?

Arrow Glass boats
Anybody ever mess with an Arrow Glass fiberglass boat? I sort of inherited my late grandfather's 1974-75 arrow glass (tarpon as best I can tell from the few pics online) and it needs a little work. The deck is fiberglass but starting to give in pretty bad and I weigh 330. I was thinking about pulling everything out of the interior and laying down plywood for now - then marine later on when budget allows - new baby cut the baitmonkey down. While I'm in there I was going to move the console as far forward as the steering linkage will allow me to accomodate my big butt. There's a bench seat much like those coolers with padding on them that covers what I assume is a livewell that has an open drain to the lake (need to plug it so she doesn't sink). I thought about removing that seat and covering with plywood, but insert a latch lid so that I can still use the livewell. Only problem is the pump is mounted on the side of the seat. Any ideas? It's got a 55 johnson that cranked about 2 years ago. Before we cranked it then it hadn't been cranked since 97 so I'm confident that with fresh gas she'll run. It did run smooth for the 30 minutes I ran her around the lake. Anybody have any experience with decking over a fiberglass floor - and specifically has anybody ever had or dealt with an arrow glass?

Are the Rage Tail Thumper supposed to be out yet?
Positive. These worms might as well be trick worms save for the rage shad tail on the end. They look totally different. I caught one 3lb bass on saturday at Guntersville and 3 on em yesterday in a farm pond. Not very tough though so I'm nearly out of the bag I bought on Thursday

Are the Rage Tail Thumper supposed to be out yet?
I picked up a bag of these at BPS last thursday - and thinking that they weren't supposed to be on the shelves yet I frantically searched for the Eeliminator or the lobster to no avail. BPS staff was as helpful as ever. "If the laminator is shaped like a frog it should be in the frog section"

Killed em at Guntersville!
Went with my wife's uncle for my first trip to Guntersville Saturday. We slayed em. We got there around 10:30 in the morning, and most boats were taking out as we were putting in complaining of the slow bite due to the heat. We caught a couple fish of humps along the channel ledge then moved up into one of the creeks. Point in 15 feet of water had a ledge in 7. We were fishing the spot as he'd done 100 times before when all the sudden the bass started schooling all around us. I threw my h2O academy clown colored square billed crankbait and for the next 2 hours we boated almost 60 fish. I caught 20 and none of them were under 2.5 pounds! unbelievable! We'd hit em hard then they'd go back under. I'd throw a carolina rig for about 10 minutes and then they'd start back up. We stayed nearly all day there. We finally left and went looking for a big bite but came back around dark and I got killed on a white spinnerbait on a 3 foot hydrilla hump! The next day we went to a farm pond in morgan county where I caught 7 more 2.5-3 lb bass. By far the best fishing I've ever experienced!

Thinking of starting a lure pass
Ok Folks, Here's the list of the first 10 guys that PM'd me about joining the pass. They're in the order I intend the pass to route through. I'll post the rules later on the day I'm gonna start the pass - bout 2 weeks. This is the same order I'll ship in. I'll pm a link to the map I created for the pass. 1) Sammy Lee 2) Donbeatya 3) Swilly 78 4) Jeff C. 5) Junior Fisher JJ08 6) wagn 7) bassin_0502 8) Fat-G 9) broncoboxer 10) stasher 1 11) clark stewart (start/end) Here's the dilemma: Priority mail is generally the easiest, cheapest, and most secure way to ship. However, the choices are limited. A small flat rate box - about 8.5x5x1 and costs $4 and change. Seems really small to me. The next option is the medium flat rate box at 13-5/8" x 11-7/8" x 3-3/8" and costs $10 to ship. What do you guys want me to do?

Thinking of starting a lure pass
If this goes as well as I think it's gonna go then this won't be the last for sure! FYI, I've got 10 people so the polls are closed as it were. I'll be sending out reply pm's tomorrow to the folks who made it and i'll post the names here. Once the next paycheck rolls around i'll start this thing up. At that time I'll post the rules and the order of the shippers. If you'd rather not have your name and address posted here so that the next guy knows who to ship to (which is the custom) then let me know so that I can come up with something different. Also be thinking of something creative to do with this pass! Like decals of your favorite baits or patches or whatever. Something to commemorate I guess. Have a good night or morning depending!

Thinking of starting a lure pass
Couple of reasons. For starters the less people involved the less time I have to spend head hunting if something goes wrong - like the package is lost in the mail or somebody made off with it. Second 10 is a good start because the package won't be gone very long and I don't have much patience waiting on it to come back home to daddy Newbie passes are popular too - i'd ask a senior member to join too or help mod so that there's a little credibility too it. A bunch of guys who haven't been here a week might not look good to the rest of the guys who haven't been here a week. But that's your call. Finally, a used item is fine so long as it is not plastics. Nobody wants a used senko , but oldie but goodie crankbaits or what have you in like new condition are fine. Again if somebody gave you a little george for 2 bags of senkos you'd feel screwed - so don't be that guy. I don't mind you trying something and putting it back in, but one of the rules of the pass would be that there is a 3 day turn-around time from receiving the package to shipping it back out. So you might not have much time to fish it. This keeps the pass going so everybody doesn't have to wait forever or wonder where it is or when they'll get it. I'd ask that if somebody does want to do that that they use a hardbait or spinnerbait or jig - not plastics for obvious reasons. And if you lose the bait on a snag or something then replace it with the exact same thing asap. I'm not sure if it will cause problems or not but i'm open minded so go for it. 5 spots left! I need you to PM me your name address and phone number only if you're a junior member or above. Thanks!

Thinking of starting a lure pass
Keep doing what you're doing. Posts is what it takes. I don't really know what the levels are. I assume 100 posts gets you junior member status but I don't know. I'm ready for the next level if a mod would like to tell me what that is.

How a beautiful morning became an expensive one.
That fishing line video works. I once caught a zara spook in my right forearm - the long 3 treble brand! All three trebles dug in. I just cut the line and finished fishing the day. That night my friend's dad did the fishing line trick. All I could feel was as if somebody had gently taken hold of my arm and pulled at the skin a little. I don't recall him jerking it out like the video.

Thinking of starting a lure pass
Your call. For example you could take a bag of rage tails and put a bag of real senkos (think price comparison) or a bag of senkos for 2 bags of brush hogs or some other creature bait. Here's a good rule of thumb: Take/put nothing that you wouldn't trade for. If you think taking a bag of senkos for 2 bags of grubs is not a good trade to you - or the average person - then don't do it. You don't have to go out and buy anything. My first pass will probably be random stuff I have around the house. I may go buy some academy crankbaits or something but that's about it - some nice spinnerbaits will probably be in there - not terminators but probably strike kings. Also feel free to add whatever else you want to the package. These things tend to get bigger as they float around since somebody either (a) wants to be generous to the other players or ( has a custom/homemade bait he wants somebody to try. The fact that these get bigger is usually used as a motivator for others to start a pass of their own. Bottom line is you play this thing KNOWING that worst case scenario when you get the final package back to you that you got your money back (the value of stuff you put in). Most times you get way more than you expected! Therein lies the fun. I hope that when this gets going and is finished that those who played will pick up the torch and start their own. It's super fun and creative. I was in a pass one time that took a year to float around before getting back to the guy who started it. As a matter of fact I think some generous old heads joined in and the one box that left came back as 2 and a humidor! Not typical but not unheard of either! Have fun. Again I'm only taking PMs for players. First 10 first to play.

Thinking of starting a lure pass
Generally, you take as much as you want and replace with equal number or more. This thing relies totally on the honor system. Sometimes the moderator of the pass - the guy who starts it will require each member to post what they took/put - kind of puts their feet to the fire to discourage somebody from taking say a spro frog or lc pointer and replacing it with a bag of zoom finesse worms. Also sometimes people do the puts/takes and then put a surprise lure in a black bag sealed for the moderator. Totally optional - all this stuff is. The beauty of the pass is that you get to see what the favorite lures are out there and you get to try new stuff. You also get to change up your tackle box a little. I'm gonna have to wait until the first of the month when the bills aren't so heavy to start this thing, but when I do I'll pick a bunch of stuff that I have around the house and ship it out. I'll post the rules later. Let's start small. First 10 people to pm me with name and address and phone number (if we have problems), also you must be AT LEAST a junior member to play. This probably won't be a big deal here but on cigarpass sometimes guys would sign up ask a bunch of questions and weasel their way into a pass and then take cohibas and put philly blunts, or worse just plain steal the thing and refuse to ship it. Like I said the honor system is the law here. I look forward to starting it up and am open to suggestions on what if any little side things you want to do with this pass - black bag for the mod, black bag specifically for another pass member, patch from your favorite lure maker, etc. GET CREATIVE and GET AT ME! I'd also encourage some of the more senior members who are interested in this to start looking at the bombs section on www.cigarpass.com - as a one-time newbie it was a feeling i'll never forget to get a bomb (care package) from some random old head who took an interest. That started a life long friendship with one guy for me. Remember that a bombee is not to be named before he gets hit! Where's the fun in knowing it's coming? Also feel free to bomb anybody - it's not just a newbie thing. I'm getting off subject! Have fun guys and Ya'll are gonna love this!

Thinking of starting a lure pass
Hey folks I'm thinking of starting a lure pass sometime soon. If you don't know how this would work then check out www.cigarpass.com and read the FAQ. I've been a member there a long time and used to be very active in the forums. The coolest thing about that site was when somebody "bombed" you with a package of cigars - nothing big usually 5-10 of whatever the bomber liked. It was a cool concept. Anyway a lure pass would essentially work like this: 1) So many people agree to sign up - say 20. 2) I put together a package of lures of my liking and ship it to the first person on the list (usually by location for shipping purposes) 3) the person gets the package and takes what he likes from the package 4) he replaces what he takes with stuff of comparable value that he likes 5) then mails it to the next guy 6) finally the package would come back to me from the last guy on the list totally different than when it left Anybody think this would be cool to them? In my mind's eye I'd love to see a lure pass website get as popular as cigar pass.

SENKOS i need alil bit of understanding
Another reason is that it's nearly impossible to fish a senko incorrectly or overfish it. It has no appendages or what have you that you can make wobble too much or flutter too fast. For that reason I think it looks the easiest to kill and the least threatening of the lot that we fish. A crappie or bream to a bass is an easy enough meal size-wise but a fisheries biologist friend of mine says in tanks where the two coexist it's rare to see a bass eat one. He believes it's because they are damaging to digest. The few bass he has seen that do it have severe cuts in there stomachs and sometimes even die from a small fish. He believes that's why you don't see it too often. He did comment that bass will still give chase and attack a crappie or 'gill and even eat a partially decayed or dead one, but a healthy (read hard fighting, fast moving) fish is not as appealing to them. Take it with a grain of salt but I've yet to have a big bass puke up a bluegill or crappie on my boat

Old bass fishing game for PC
you're my hero dude! That's the game - only glitch I can find is that the little status screen that tells you you snagged or hooked a fish or something won't stay up on the screen. it just flashes when you click so you can't really read it. I'm gonna research and see if a better version exists. I'm so happy it's sad!

Old bass fishing game for PC
Bingo! That's exactly what I'm talking about. You had a depthfinder that you used to chase schools of fish or find humps and there was one monster bass out there that was near impossible to catch. Nes style graphics. If you have it my kingdom to you!

How much trouble would it be to have a member map like that on the Rage Talk forum at ragetail.com? I'd love to know who all is nearby

Best Old/Vintage Crankbaits?
Is it sad that I've got a tackle box at my parent's house that was my grandfather's before he died. I had already taken a handfull of cranks out of it based solely on the this one looks newer than that one, or these hooks aren't rusted! I know he's got a dozen hellbenders in there but I've never thought much of them. Guess I'll have to give it another once over!

crankbaits for smallies
I'd love to test a home made rig! I read a post yesterday where a guy's best smallie crank this year was a silver purple back. But a lot of people are screaming gold. Maybe gold/purple back?

How do you join the "in crowd?"
Good stuff good stuff It kills me that the roadtrip was at guntersville last year! I live 45 minutes from there!!! ARGH the story of my life. I petition that the road trip be at Weiss Lake Alabama or Neely Henry Lake alabama next year! Whos with me?! Never mind that those aren't hog lakes - that's beside the point. It's all about me people ;D
