  1. If they are in Wisconsin, sure. But there are people on here that are near waters that hold potential records. yeah and it makes me want to junk punch those guys! :'( ;D
  2. Curious. What in particular do you believe is weird about this year? I don't know about Colorado, but here in Alabama it's been the temps and rain. For the last 4 years or so we've been in a pretty severe drought. This is the first year that it has rained with any significance. What's weird is that the fish have not known where to be as in typical years. According to the weatherman this is actually a normal rain year for Alabama, but we've (and the fish apparently) have gotten so used to the drought that we think we're gonna drown! The fish seem lost and we're catching them in places we've seldom caught them this time of year. On top of that we had record high weather in July and record low weather in August. Go figure
  3. Saw the ad while browsing BPS website a minute ago. 20% off all zoom baits through Sept. 7th Please to enjoy!
  4. I can't enjoy the rod for fear that a car is gonna drive through the picture and crush the rod - driveway? really?
  5. Yeah I guess that was the way we did it now that I think about it. You mentioned you got bombed by a generous soul and didn't mention their name unless they ok'd it
  6. Then sling it on out there. Unless they specifically state they don't want to be mentioned I'd make a little fuss over their generosity. Remember that's how it was on the cigar forums. It really acted to spark interest in the "sport"
  7. Hehe you're pics look like somebody examining fingerprints! A couple years ago I was fishing a sour grape ringworm off a dock to some rip rap and caught a little dink - he killed that worm. I lost half of it down his throat as a result. 2 casts later I get another fish and when I pulled him in he spit out the other half of that same worm! I still laugh thinking about that greedy little guy.
  8. I'm the one who posted on this originally. We'll be starting Lure Pass #1 in the next few weeks, and I hope that it gets better reviews than this thread has. I was a member of cigarpass for years and I agree with you that in general it worked very well. Since you're talking about bombs then if somebody doesn't elect to bomb somebody else then oh well - it was intended as a gift anyway. A bomb by definition is to be dropped on somebody without them knowing it - with no expectation of retaliation or paying it forward. Now as for passes (pif) whatever then yeah I can see where folks get a little nervous, and for good reason. There again sometimes people will get screwed and that's unfortunate. I have confidence (I hope not in naivety) that this will be a successful pass. To those who didn't get in on it, if this goes well and there is interest in doing it again then I will with preference to those who didn't get in on it the first go-round (bigmoney, etc). Then again nothing states that I'm the pre-ordained pass guru! If you want to start one then go for it. If you have technical questions let me know. I feel confident that this is the best place around for bass aficionados to enjoy fellowship. Heck if we couldn't trust each other then what's the point in all of us driving to meet once a year for the roadtrip? Again RW is right that this is not the mods problem if this pass doesn't go well. I'll be the one who eats the loss.
  9. I used it a little bit at guntersville a couple weeks ago. You'd think this rig would lose appeal in hydrilla beds but the bass seem to find it with little trouble. It's been my experience that if you can fish it without dragging in salad every cast - that it will catch fish.
  10. sorry for hijacking but you mentioned in your topic how to cast. I was just wondering that the other day. I hold it like everybody else on here does, but I have a tendency to try and cast overhead like I do with a baitcaster. Is a two-handed side cast the proper way. Some times I get the bait to go where I want other times it loses most of the distance overhead.
  11. I almost threw up reading this. I had a flashback! Golf course lake - huge huge lake! Fishing one of the bridges over the water that is a cart path with a giant tiki stick - bamboo stick. Momma takes it and promptly raps around the piling. I run and reel down the path to where she's at and by some miracle of pulling she unwraps herself! Now the problem is that I can't lay on my belly and reach the water. Like a dumb A I pull her free of the water. The second her tail clears the surface. SNAP! I did get the pleasure of looking down her 9+ pounds of mason jar mouth full of senko as she swims away . What made it worse was my best friend was screaming at me to hold on so he could get her for me, but adrenaline made all sound go away. The real kicker...As soon as she got off I noticed I was 10 feet from the bank! I could have walked to the end of the path and got her on the bank!!!!
  12. I see post after post of amazing crankbait work, but I wonder if anybody sells these to anybody. I'm not talking about a real business but does anybody take small orders for other members? Or offer their creations up for sale? It kills me to think these great jobs exist with no way to obtain any of them!
  13. lots of spinnerbaits and senkos - spinnerbaits are a given, but the kid will learn early to like bass fishing if he knows that he can at least get bit on a senko. Plus they don't have the same learning curve as a worm or jig
  14. That's my big gripe about Academy. I have one in town so I can go anytime I want, but I like cruise web sites when I'm stuck in the office, and Academy's sucks! It's comparable to wal-mart's website when it comes to fishing stuff. Academy has like 4 or 6 aisles front and back full of bait and they mention having 1 pack of rage tails online!? I don't understand
  15. Thanks! I've had some of those phenomenal backlashes! Kinda reminds of when that computer sucks that lady in and makes her a robot in Superman 3! They have a tendency to grab the reel handle that way. Now that I know that where should i start? Dial down to 7 and start working my thumb? Where are you at? And how far are you casting now with a decent sized worm or whatever? In yards not feet! I played football not model airplanes!
  16. I've got feelers out checking them out for me. I told them if they could find them to buy em out and I'd pay double what they paid! Last time I checked wal mart here had em for the same price as our academy - 5.99 a bag - booooo! > Be happy for sportsman's warehouse. I'd never even heard of one until today - probably because the nearest one's are in kentucky and carolina!
  17. Good for you! I've been fishing for years and don't have any equipment that nice! I'm sure you won't like it though so send it my way and get yourself something really nice!
  18. I've got that avocet combo that I got from Academy. It's a nice outfit and has a nice backbone. I seldom fish it though because I'm partial to baitcast outfits. If you're into baitcasters then for 60 bucks you could get a Bill Dance edition quantum combo at BPS. I've got it as a gift and liked it a lot. I eventually paired the reel with my favorite rod so far - an All Star 6'6 MH. The lightening rods are under valued in my opinion. I've got one that I use for crankbaits and spinnerbaits. 30 bucks all day at walmart and they're really nice for a cheap setup. Tough rods. Start there and when you get a little more confident in what you can do move up to an allstar rod. I'm the first to tell you that when it comes to fishing I don't like to have to budget for anything. I have never broken any of these rods and I've abused them in certain places with no problems. Of course I'd love a St. Croix but I don't have the inclination or the money to shell out for one.
  19. I've been fishing them for years and am pretty proficient at avoiding backlashes but upon studying them the other day I noticed that nearly all of them are dialed around 9 or 10 on the side control. I guess I need help in 1) understanding what dials do what 2) what they're really called 3) how to properly set drag and 4) how to get the most distance without backlashes I've got a spot in a pond that is across some deeper water to another bank where the bass get 0 fishing pressure. It kills me to hump it in my spot and watch bass kill anything that moves on the surface of the other bank. The bank is impossible to fish on that side because it is incredibly steep and covered with trees and brush. To make it worse there's even exposed brush and cover all over this bank that I can't reach. I need another 20 yards or so!
  20. Those crankbaits are the only ones I'll buy. I refuse to pay 16 bucks or more for a lucky craft - especially when they have one that dives less than a foot that costs the same as one of the jerkbaits - can you say buying the label? I know they're great baits - probably the best you can buy, but you can't tell me that they aren't overpriced when both those baits cost the same. Off my rant - I love the h2o line. I caught all but 3 of the 20-30 bass I slayed last week at Guntersville on a clown colored h2o square bill!
  21. i can get those basspro floating lizards. b I think it's about time somebody put up a list of what he has access to and asks for votes for new *** lures!
  22. I did a search and got nada. Maybe I used the wrong terms. For those of you that fish swimbaits - what is the method? Chuck and reel or what? Also specifically I've seen all the pics of the *** jawjack swimbait - and now brent has it in 7.5 inches. Anybody fish these things? If so how?
  23. Any idea what the markup is at Academy on tiki baits? I'm lookin at the website and 2.99 for a bag of baits is a good deal. Haven't researched the shipping yet. May be cheaper to go to academy for some of it - probably not on the lobsters
  24. I bought mine at BPS not sure if they have any at academy. I don't care what brand stickbait I buy but it's hard to find a 7inch one anywhere
  25. If you're on a tight budget then buy something you have confidence in. Nothing worse than blowing money on a bait that you don't get bit on. I was crazy about the rage shads but for some reason I can only get bit on them in my home pond. Go figure. That being said the other rage tails are good - I caught a couple nice bass at Guntersville last weekend carolina rigging a rage craw. It's a quality bait. Oh yeah the anacondas are great and if you can find it the Thumper worm rocks too. They just hit BPS
